"Long may peace attend thee!"
A Victorian-era hidden-name calling card with shaking hands, a sailing ship, and the Statue of Liberty, all surrounded by a border of roses and forget-me-nots. The colorful illustration consists of a separate die-cut that lifts up on the right-hand side to reveal the name of "Edward M. Mercer" printed underneath.

Managed to scrape this one in with a minute or two to spare. This was inspired by a card I saw in a magazine.... it used die cuts, lace and a sentiment. I just adapted the idea to my dies, and used a stamp instead of a diecut on the background. Cut the Decorative Labels 8 and sponged on the distress while it was in the die, masked off the edges and then stamped the Silhouette grass, Found some lovely cream and brown spotted PP. Another sentiment that has been chopped in the name of stamping!!!! Just part of the whole used. Finished with a pop of colour with the yellow rose, picked up from Daisy Chain which I visited with Paula last year. So a special bit today for her scramble.
I used a Tim Holtz die in my Big Shot and adapted the pattern slightly.
I'm going to have lots of fun making variations of this.

I had this great idea, but it never materialized, so maybe next time! I know this is not using a background stamp in an usual way, but dots on leaves is definitely revolutionary for me!

No information is known about this postcard company - Valley Photo Ceramics - they were most likely produced for one year in the early to mid 1980's. They all have die cut corners and were all Petawawa related - any information of these postcards would be much appreciated.

Unknown when the "Petawawa Medical Building" opened...it was located 1121 / 1123 Victoria Street - it is now a building for office and retail space.
In April 2008 the Medical Building / Health Care Centre was moved temporally for three years to 12 Reichwald - until the new medical building opened in May of 2011 - the Petawawa Centennial Family Health Centre "PCFHC" and is located at 154 Civic Centre Road.
I wanted to try to create one of the FUN CIRCLE cards that I've seen......I do like these little cards so much! "Simplex Typewriters, $1.00, $2.50, $5.00. The most instructive and useful gift possible to give any child, boy or girl. Come at once to see them demonstrated at E. Schneider & Sons Co., 80 Bergenline Ave., Hudson Hill, N.J."
If you have any interest in the history of typewriters—or vintage ads, photos, and ephemera related to typewriters—then you may want to track down a copy of the recently published book, The Typewriter: A Graphic History of the Beloved Machine (Calgary, Alberta: Uppercase Publishing, 2015), by Janie Vangool (full disclosure: my name appears in a list of supporters at the back of the book just because I preordered a copy).
I don't believe that this Simplex Santa makes an appearance in The Typewriter, but there are photos of a couple of Simplex (Toy) Typewriters (one dated 1910), along with Christmas magazine advertisements, Valentine cards, letterheads, postcards (including a copy of this one, p. 123), manuals, instruction books, certificates, touch typing charts (a colorful example similar to this one appears on pp. 86-87), die cuts, ribbon tins, and other delights.
See also the other side of this die-cut Santa advertisement.

I tried Lisa's tips on using levels in Photoshop and this is the result!! So easy and quick for a better photo! Since we live in a condo, sun light is really precious to us. If I don't get my cards made early enough, I won't get a good shot at my cards... This tip is even more useful since all I have is a simple digital camera. It makes a big difference!!
Here is the original photo.
Thank you Lisa for the awesome tips!!
TFL. =)
Hi all. I got a card done for the diecut challenge using one of the templates provided. I love working with butterflies and so I thought I would give the template a try. It is hard to see, but I used the old letter writing background stamp for the colored parts of the butterfly. I wanted it to be really subtle and so I used the old linen distress ink to stamp it. The flourishes and the layered flower is diecut from my cricut machine using the Storybook cartridge and the George and Basic Shapes cartridge.
This page of pointing hands is marked "Printed in Germany" and measures about 9 1/4 by 13 1/2 inches. I have included a close up detail to show the random dot pattern of the lithograph. It is not dated but from the style I would guess it is late 19th to early 20th century.
It does not fit well into any of the categories we collect so it is hard to explain why we both fastened on it at an antique show and had to have it. We do have other diecuts, most are photo related or were included in lots that had included a camera. We also have some nice hand images that relate to magic lantern shadow shows so I may include a diecut and hand image set. Just what I need another set to feed my flickr addiction!
This is unique among our large collection of "paper moon" photographs. The photograph of, I feel sure, mother and daughter was been mounted on a die-cut crescent moon card. It is about 3 1/2 inches high and the edge of the die-cut card is gold. I am posting the back in the comments. I have been told the language is Swedish and that the word "sister" is readable.
Suzz had sent me some diecuts which I thought would make great tags. Even did a bit of stitching.. The embossed part of the tag is also paper from Suzz, presumably from her cuttlebug - just goes to show that everything gets used in the long run. I sponged on distress inks on the embossed side. Embossed HA snowlake in white. Cut out the poinsettias from the big design block and added some embellishments.
Having another play with my new SSS "Arched Leaf and Flower Blooms" dies. The background used embossing folder "Crystal Distortion" Blogged here
For this I used the bird diecuts of Hero Arts from last monday. The background of the upper part is made with S5101 Raindrop Background. The lower part of the background is made with S5129 Scattered Flowers. The branches I cut myself and the leaves are from CL298 Scattered Leaves. I used one of the leaves and cut them smaller. The reason for this card is that we have a pair of blackbirds in our backyard having a nest with young blackbirds in it. I can already hear them when I stand right under it.
A Christmas scene using kraft card and embossing folder, die and stencil from SSS. It was hard to photograph but is very shimmery and sparkly, Blogged here
