At the zenith of the central (Main) dome, in a medallion with a diameter of 4.1 m, there is a monumental mosaic image of the half-figure of Christ the Almighty (Christ the Pantocrator). Christ is in a purple chiton and a blue cloak. The medallion is surrounded by nine multi-colored circles resembling a rainbow. Around Christ the Almighty - four archangels, of which only one (in a blue outfit) is mosaic, and the others were painted in oil by M. A. Vrubel in 1884.

The aisles between the windows of the dome drum, through which light pours into the interior, depict the 12 apostles. The gospel in the hands of the apostles means that they enlighten the nations with the word of divine truth. The height of each figure is 3.5 meters.

Under the dome on spherical triangles (sails) there are four evangelists - John, Matthew, Mark and Luke, depicted in the Gospels. Evangelicals were seen as pillars of evangelical teaching, so their images are depicted above the pillars that support the dome.

Kloster St. Blasien, St. Blasien, Baden-Württemberg, Deutschland.

St. Blaise's Abbey (German: Kloster St. Blasien) was a former Benedictine abbey of the Holy Roman Empire founded in the late 10th century in the Black Forest near the town of St. Blasien (today in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany). The abbey was dissolved during the secularisation of 1806, and its buildings were used as one of the first mechanised factories in Germany. From 1934, the surviving buildings were used as a Jesuit university, the Kolleg St. Blasien.

The abbey temporarily had the status of an imperial abbey from 1125 to 1250. The prince-abbot (Fürstabt) of St. Blaise held princely status (Reichsfürst) again from 1609, not because of the abbey itself, but because the abbey had acquired the county of Bonndorf, which carried with it princely status.

The abbey church burned down in 1768 and was rebuilt as a circular neoclassical church designed by the architect Pierre Michel d'Ixnard with a huge dome measuring 36 metres in diameter and 63 metres high (the third largest in Europe north of the Alps) from 1781 under Prince-Abbot Martin Gerbert. It was named Dom St. Blasius, and is also known as "St. Blaise's Cathedral" (so called because of its great size and magnificence, not because it is a cathedral in the ecclesiastical or administrative sense). It was consecrated in 1784.

The effects of another catastrophic fire in 1874 were finally remedied in the 1980s.

The large (up to 2.5 metres in diameter) sandstone boulders at Red Rock Coulee are concretions - formed undersea, in this case the shallow "Bearpaw Sea" that covered much of the North American interior when the dinosaurs still roamed. Eighty million years old, give or take, they now sit on the Alberta prairie like gigantic, misshapen cow pies.

I wondered what I could do with a fish eye lens here, so when the sun emerged from a cloud bank very late in the evening, I got out the Rokinon 8mm. Keeping the camera level produces a straight horizon; any tilt and there is a pronounced curve. The limitation lies in its extraordinary 180° field of view: if I shifted to the right, the sun would be in my frame; to the left and I have to deal with my own shadow. And the photo op turned out to be brief; I had time for half a dozen shots and then the light faded.

The Duomo's cruise was considered insurmountable until, in 1420, Brunelleschi created the brilliant solution of building two shells. Climb up to the marble lantern on the summit.

The lantern, designed by Brunnelleschi, was built after the architect died (1446). The golden copper ball and Verrocchio's cross, containing sacred relics, were placed there 25 years later.

PS. The cathedral needs urgent reform and is visible. It is a sad sight to see so much money from tourism, either it is misused or ticket prices fall short.

An solchen Winzigkeiten rennt man oft einfach vorbei. Nicht ganz leicht zu schießen, wenn der Wind keine Pause macht.

The beauty of the little one. We all know blood beeches. They are big. Such minimal structures are often overlooked.

Osteospermum and daisies are very similar flowers. Osteospermum actively and luxuriantly blooms all summer and the first half of autumn until frost. Among the color options of the flowers are orange, pink, lilac, purple, purple, white. Often the paint is not monophonic, but turning into other shades.

The lush buds of the Cape daisy open at low air temperature. The corollas are about 5 cm in diameter. When grown in shaded areas, the osteospermum grows up to 100 cm, in sunny areas — up to 50 cm. The plant perfectly tolerates even sudden changes in weather conditions. It prefers regular watering, light soil, and open areas....

It looks like its northern sister, the white chamomile,

with osteospermum petals around the middle

, a flower from distant hot countries, from Africa,

blooms from July to November with heavenly colors.

The color is white, pink, orange, purple,

they need more warmth and a lot of light,

a little moisture and care, as well as a sea of affection -

the eyes look at them from under the delicate petals and smile at us ... A miracle!

Palo borracho is a tree native to the tropical and subtropical forests of South America. Trees are in bloom between February and May but can also bloom at other times of the year. The flowers are creamy-whitish in the center and pink towards the tips of their five petals. They measure 10 to 15 centimetres (4 to 6 in) in diameter and their shape is superficially similar to hibiscus flowers.

It will change subtly the color by adding and subtracting light.

Indian-born artist Anish Kapoor’s Descension was at Pier One by the Brooklyn Bridge from May 3 until October 1, the entire summer where it saw considerable foot traffic. The Descension art display was a 26 foot diameter pool of East River water that spins in a vortex with the center appearing to collapse surrounded by a low fence around it’s perimeter. The 63 year old Kapoor now calls Great Briton his home actually first displayed Descension at India's 2015 Kochi-Muziris biennale where it was installed indoors, then later at the Palace of Versailles but this is first time it is here in North America. It had special meaning to oft controversial and opinionated Kapoor as the artist said it had an obvious association with the current state of American politics and the current man in White House. The funding came from the Public Art Fund as part of its 40th anniversary celebration. Kapoor said “Art liberates us, opens us, frees us, and to have open access is a terrific thing.”

The Pier One area where the piece is located was once part of industrial piers along the East River that is now a park that stretches 1.3 miles along the East River just south of the Brooklyn Bridge.

The display truly had a mesmerizing effect, the swirling water, the primordial hum and vibration of the motor spinning the vortex could be felt around the perimeter of the pool. So I took many shots, videos of the spinning, then I sat down and thought let me do something different. At that moment, the sky got gray and cloudy which reflected in the water in the pool so I pulled out my tripod, put on my Cokin filter holder and pulled out all my neutral density filters and loaded in the holder, wanted to freeze the swirling motion, get enough detail & movement and put the tripod right by the fence to get sufficiently close with my normal zoom as I was trying to avoid the compression effect of using a longer telephoto lens. The image here is one of the best, literally looks like the eye of a hurricane; the agitation of the swirling water clearly visible one can literally feel themselves being drawn into the vortex.

Taken using an Olympus E-5 with an Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 12-60mm F2.8-4.0 SWD lens on MeFoto tripod with 3 Cokin ND filters, processed in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.

Unusual, intriguing, memorable! The Cannonball tree is one of my favorite tropical trees with sea-anemone-like flowers whose sweet enticing fragrance can be enjoyed a field away. It has large hard brown fruit that clang like Cannonballs in the tropical forest at night. The flowers don't erupt on the upper branches either but on root-like branches around the base of the trunk! At night the flowers are particularly aromatic to attract swift-flying pollinators including bats. This particular Cannonball tree was collected in 1913 at Jamaica’s Hope Gardens and has flourished here at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden since it was planted in 1938.

According to textual records, Couroupita guianensis trees have been growing in India for at least 3,000 years, where it is so revered that it is often found growing at religious temples. It's possible that it is native to India as well. Part of the Lecythidaceae family, it grows up to 25m (82ft) in height. The majority of Cannonball trees that grow outside their natural environment were planted as botanical curiosities. Their large orange, scarlet and pink flowers form bunches that measure up to 3m in length. The large spherical, woody fruits, which range from 15 to 24cm in diameter, each contain up to 300 seeds.

The forest department had set up small water troughs (20 cms diameter) in the forest for small birds - while they set up large water troughs (15 - 20 feet diameter) on the ground for animals. As summer comes, these become quite busy and are a great place for sightings.

The White Bellied Blue flycatcher is another endemic of the Malabar forest in India and a pretty serious looking detective type of bird that stares suspiciously for a long time. This was a lifer and on the first day, I was amazed by the birds ability to sit and stare for minutes together without moving.

And in the background was a Brown Cheeked Fulvetta - a small super active bird found much of the subcontinent. They are social birds that are seen in flocks and known for their loud calls.

As soon as the Fulvetta came to the water trough - it was like a kid - lets have fun - dived straight into the water and was making merry. The flycatcher though landed on the edge and stared at the photographers like a minute before slowly taking a dip. I used the opportunity to take a long exposure shot 1/10 sec and am quite happy with the outcome!

Thank you so much in advance for your views, feedback and faves.

This is my trusty magnetic rod that I use for picking up dropped dressmaker pins. Its diameter is similar to a slim pen and about half the length. I've had it since my fashion industry days in the late 1960's. These days I'm not doing a lot of sewing, so it sits in a little metal machine accessories tin along with a couple of tiny screwdrivers, a little brush for fluffing dust from the sewing machine needle area, and a pair of tweezers that I used to use when threading my old over-locker. The little magnet still works well and gets used on the odd occasion - and creating this photo certainly was a most odd occasion for its use.

Daphne mezereum (Thymelaceae) 101 22

Daphne mezereum (commonly known as mezereum, mezereon, February daphne, spurge laurel, or spurge olive) is a species of Daphne in the flowering plant family Thymelaeaceae, native to most of Europe and Western Asia, north to northern Scandinavia and Russia. In southern Europe, it is confined to medium to higher elevations and in the subalpine vegetation zone but descends to near sea level in northern Europe. It is generally confined to soils derived from limestone.

It is a deciduous shrub growing to 1.5 m tall. The flowers are produced in early spring on the bare stems before the leaves appear. They have a four-lobed pink or light purple (rarely white) perianth and are strongly scented. The fruit is a bright red berry 7–12 mm in diameter.

Daphne mezereum is very toxic because of the compounds mezerein and daphnin present, especially in the berries and twigs. If poisoned, victims experience a choking sensation. Handling the fresh twigs can cause rashes and eczema in sensitive individuals. Despite this, it is commonly grown as an ornamental plant in gardens for its attractive flowers.

The jelly blubber (Catostylus mosaicus), also known as the blue blubber jellyfish, is a species of jellyfish from coastal regions in the Indo-Pacific. It is the most commonly encountered jellyfish along the Australian eastern coast and large swarms sometimes appear in estuarine waters. In Sydney waters, the jelly blubber's large bell is a creamy white or brown colour, but farther north in Australia it is usually blue. The colours are derived from pigment produced by the jellyfish itself (not symbiotic algae, as in some other jellyfish). There is no obvious mouth on the underside, but there are small openings on each arm, through which food is passed to the stomach. The tentacles also have stinging cells that can capture tiny crustaceans and other plankton. It grows to a diameter of 30–45 cm. The sting can be painful but generally poses no serious risk to humans. 24587
