BAY CITY — As Lent brings us closer to Good Friday and Easter, a common devotion is the Stations of the Cross, which follow Jesus' path from Pontius Pilate's praetorium to Calvary and His tomb. The faithful gathered at All Saints Parish at the St. James campus in Bay City to pray the Stations of the Cross each Tuesday throughout the Lenten season.

Following the Way of the Cross, also known as Via Dolorosa (Sorrowful Way), dates back to at least the fourth or fifth century and has evolved over time. Pilgrims visiting Jerusalem would retrace Jesus' last day; later popes established and encouraged "stations" in the form of Crosses or images to be erected in churches for the devotion.
The modern version of this devotion consists of 14 stations: Pilate condemns Christ to death; Jesus carries the cross; the first fall; Jesus meets His Blessed Mother; Simon of Cyrene helps to carry the cross; Veronica wipes the face of Jesus; the second fall; Jesus speaks to the women of Jerusalem; the third fall; Jesus is stripped of His garments; Jesus is nailed to the cross; Jesus dies on the cross; Jesus is taken down from the cross; and Jesus is laid in the tomb.
During the devotion, the faithful move from station to station, reflecting on the Passion and Death of Jesus. At each image, a leader says, "We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you." "Because by your holy Cross, You have redeemed the world," those gathered respond while bowing or kneeling. Different versions include variations on reflections, prayer and song.

45 years ago on our wedding night my beloved promised to give me a rose each
year for the number of years that we were married...so now after 45 years of roses,
every year without fail.... the number of roses he has given me through the years
on our anniversary totals 1015. Wow... thank you, for all the years and the promise
you have never broken and the vows we made that have not been broken either!!!
For this I give thanks to God for blessing us together all these years!!!

Hardly any people are more devoted and religious than the Burmese. 90% of the population are buddhists, and "all" males, and many women, have done their duty either as a novice at a monastry or as a monk.
