Saw this devotee and politely asked him for a portrait. He happily agreed and stood steady until I completed the shot.

Tamil-Malaysian devotee at Penang's auspicious Thaipusam religious celebration, George Town, Peninsular Malaysia. Digital film scan, Asahi Pentax Spotmatic (SMC Pentax Zoom 45~125mm f/4), circa 1973.
Every year on the day of the first full moon in late January or early February over a million pilgrims gather at various temples across Malaysia to celebrate Thaipusam, a vibrant Hindu religious festival in honour of Lord Subramaniam (also known as Lord Muruga, god of war in the Hindu-Tamil pantheon).
Thaipusam is rooted in Hindu-Tamil legend, brought to the Malayan peninsula by a diaspora of South Indian immigrants who came to work on the rubber estates during the British colonial administration in the late 18th-century.

The east-facing shrine is bathed in sunlight as the sun dedicates its first rays to Lord Shiva. It appears that the sun is just as eager to worship his creator as Nandikeshwara is.

An elderly devotee with ingenuous smile on her face....taken outside Chaturbhuj temple in Orchha, Madhya Pradesh, India
What? Some of you, like me, may be devotees of the 1990's (is it that long ago?) great, and probably the best comedy show ever, Seinfeld. Mind you, it was unabashedly different, irreverent but closer to home than many of us may be prepared to admit. And supposedly a "show about nothing".
One episode in Season 3 was entitled "The Pez Dispenser" and in keeping with the theme of the show, any episode that appeared to surround a thing as inconsequential as a Pez Dispenser was indeed a "show about nothing".
But being the innocent I was and still am, I really had no idea what a Pez Dispenser was. Certainly, at the time they seemed to have no profile at all in Australia. I was quite surprised to find this shop (despite it being too early to be open) on the Mooloolaba Wharf on the Sunshine Coast which seemed to be full of the things. For those who are devotees or collectors of real life Pez Dispensers, this is your shop as you can see. It's all about the dispenser but they do hold and dispense lollies (or should we say, for this description, candy!)
It seems they are really Austrian but have world wide appeal and there are many collectors. Their history is long and fascinating for those interested and as usual, the link below will take you to the full story.
*And just to remind those of you who may have loved Seinfeld, here is the story of that episode.
At any hour of the day or night, one can find tens if not hundreds of devotees walking clockwise around the Boudha Stupa in Kathmandu. As they walk they will chant, say prayers, bless, turn the prayer wheels and ring a bell or two. The prayer wheels are spun with the belief that the inscribed blessing will be taken by the wind to the heavens.

Devotees attempt to enter the gates of Quiapo church where the statue of the Black Nazarene will be returned at the end of the procession in Manila January 9, 2009. Tens of thousands of devotees thronged Manila to snatch a glimpse or try to touch the centuries old black statue of Jesus Christ at the annual parade. The wooden Black Nazarene, carved in Mexico and brought to the Philippines capital in the early 17th century, is cherished by Catholics, who believe it performs miracles.

In this Mudra with his left hand the dancer is showing as if he is holding a mirror and his right hand is putting the beauty mark .
He is in Radha Vabh ; Lord Krishna is his paramour , he is doing Shringar or getting decked up to welcome his beloved ; dancing in different Mudra in front of The cart ( ratha) of Lord Jagannatha !
I understand it will be little problematic for my friends ( except from India) to understand the back ground story, still , hope you will enjoy the frame.
