Books with Buggies is a monthly reading group for adults who have a love of books and would like to talk to others in surroundings with toys and children’s books for their babies and young children 7th March 2014
At Teignmouth Library, we celebrated the Queens’s Diamond Jubilee with a “Queens Knickers” event. The children listened to “The Queen’s Knickers” by Nicholas Allen, and then decorated their own pair of jubilee knickers which were made into bunting to decorate our children’s library. We enjoyed a picnic in the library, with free teas and coffees for the parents and grandparents, and biscuits for everyone! Everyone had lots of fun ...... and got covered in glitter!
Nigel Farndale answered questions from Devon Libraries Development Officer Wendy and from the audience. Wendy's questions were taken from the 100 reviews sent in by people who read the Exeter Summer Read The Blasphemer.
The QE Academy librarian, Robert Logan, came to Crediton Library and discussed the merits of the illustrations of the shortlisted titles for the Kate Greenaway medal with members of our 9 - 12 year old library book group.
The Citizen's Advice Bureau came to St Thomas Library on Wednesday 29th January. They were able to give advice on saving energy in our homes together with showing our borrowers online websites which could find them the cheapest tariff from the energy providers #BESW14
The teen book group enjoyed expoloring our interactive exhibition 'The Glass Room' and taking the quiz. The Glass Room Misinformation Edition exhibit looks at misinformation in all its forms, from deepfakes to addictive technology design. Visitors are invited to explore the consequences of our increasing reliance on social media and the web for the majority of our information.
Councillor Roger Croad, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Devon Library Service, launched the Exetreme Imagination festival at Exeter Library. Exetreme imagination is Exeter’s festival of writing for and by young people.

We positioned ourselves under an old tree which sheltered us from the rain and the hot sun (yes there was both!) and hung postcards of book covers and the Summer Reading Challenge from the branches along with some bunting.

I managed to do a presentation on stage for a very chuffed Book Tracker winner also advertising how brilliant our library service was, of course.
RADIO EXE mentioned the library several times throughout the day and our competition 'Spot the Spider' (a grid based game) went down a storm. About 130 odd people had a go (adults and kids)! The biggest pull was that it was FREE and you could win something. Oh and the sweets on the table helped too.
Anyway I believe over 350 people that day must have seen or heard something about the St Thomas Library, which we are happy with.
Cody Kane, age 9, the winner of the "Harry Potter" wordsearch competition. Cody has been presented with his special boxed set of the first 5 Harry Potter audio books, as read by Stephen Fry.
The Quick Reference Section shelves are on the right hand wall next to the magazines and newspapers in the Exeter Library upstairs Quiet Area. More reference books can be found in the general run of non-fiction.
The Cycle Tour of Britain media centre was based at Exeter Library. The large crane lifted up 2 satellite dishes to twice the height of the library.

Fantastic tales at Tavistock Parish Rooms, part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of Tavistock Library.
The Exeter Library deaf and hearing BSL Club meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month. It’s a friendly informal evening of BSL conversation. At the December Club people signed the letters to make the Merry Christmas baubles.
Martha, age 12, presented her sister Trudie, age 6, with her Summer Reading Challenge gold medal for reading 6 books. Martha is a Reading Activist at Exeter Library which is a young volunteer who promotes reading. She is volunteering during the school summer holidays to promote the Mythical Maze Summer Reading Challenge. She joined Trudie to the challenge on Monday, the first day of the school holidays, and Trudie read 6 books by the next day, Tuesday, to receive her stickers, prizes and medal. Trudie then joined the Devon Libraries Booktrack 100 book challenge.
