One of the largest private real estate developments in the United States, the Hudson Yards consists of 16 planned structures with residences, hotels, office buildings, a shopping centre, and a cultural facility. It also covers most of the West Side Yard, a large railroad yard operated by the NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) that is otherwise a large piece of real estate that, until now, did not serve the space needs of the city.

The mantra is "we need houses", but much of the new build activity is geared towards pulling in commuters from Bristol and Cardiff. This pushes up prices and does little to help local first time buyers. It also increased pollution and congestion on the M4.
