This is a parasitic plant. It is 100% dependent on its host, meaning, it doesn't have any green parts to do photosynthesis, and no roots to get water from the ground. The seeds germinate and seek a host root to attach to. After finding one, they develope under the ground and when time comes, these big, fancy bolts of flowers emerge out of the desert ground. These flowers can grow 50cm high, and attract many insects and predators. All thanks to the poor host plant...
The young parts of the plant, by the way, are edible!

With more of my time this winter taking care of the livestock here on the farm because of our adverse weather, I spent less time in my train room than I had hoped. I model the Chicago Great Western in N-Scale circa 1955-1965, that later period of which I witnessed while I was growing up. This drones eye view is of a train departing the north end of the yard at Hayfield, MN around noon on a summer 1955 day. The nit-pickers will note the 1958 Chevy parked on the north side of the oil company office!! There is also a shortage of telephone poles in this scene, as I develope techniques with the scenery. The background at the horizon is a photograph of a soybean field taken in Iowa. There is at least another couple of hours to devote to this two foot piece of real estate which is far from complete!

Oltre alla serie digitale ( flic.kr/s/aHsmsnW9Lv ) propongo la versione analogica che, secondo me, rende meglio la sensazione di oppressione mista ad appagamento per gli splendidi paesaggi.

I drove my grandkids home to their small Alberta town. Their neighborhood is quite charming with older homes that don't look like they came off an assembly line, and large mature fir trees. But it is still a small town in the country, and this pefect image was too tempting to pass by. The kids know what to do: one hands me the camera, another one watches for cars, and another one wants to know what the heck I am seeing.
With any luck, one of them will develope an eye and a passion that will make them, too, screech to a halt because a photo is calling to them.
Blessings to all my Flickr friends for a safe and happy holiday season.

Built in 1935 in Bexhill, Sussex. The manifesto was for
"A modernist building of world renown that will become a crucible for creating a new model of cultural provision in an English seaside town which is going to lead to the growth, prosperity and the greater culture of our town"
Well perhaps, but it is widely recognised as one of the most iconic Modernist buildings in Britain.
We haven't had the rains and flooding of the continent but the last week has been depressingly gloomy. It was meant to be better yesterday, I was on my own and planned to get away for some much overdue colour shooting. Alas, apart from the five minutes or so around which I took this It was grey featureless skies. The analogue produces a bleak run down seaside town feel though

The Chrysler Sunbeam had been aimed at the super-mini sector when launched in 1977. But it was felt that a hot hatch was needed to boost the sporty image. To this end the Chrysler Sunbeam Ti was launched in 1979 with a 1600 cc twin Weber carbs and an output of 100 bhp
Chrysler had also commissioned Lotus to develope a rally version. The car was unveiled at the 1979 Geneva Motor show , but the road going version was not offered to the public until after the re-branding and became the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus. With a 2172 cc version of the Lotus 2.0 ltr 16v slant valve engine and ZF gearbox. both mounted in the car at Ludham Airfield, close to the Lotus facility in Hethel, Norfolk, where the almost-complete cars were shipped from Linwood. Final inspection, in turn, took place in Stoke, Coventry In road trim, the type 911 engine produced 150 bhp increased to 250bhp in rallying trim. The Sunbeam Lotus was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in April 1979, but the road-going version of the rally car was not ready for deliveries to the public until after the rebranding, and thus became the "Talbot Sunbeam Lotus". At first these were produced mostly in black and silver, although later models came in a moonstone blue and silver (or black) scheme. The car saw not only enthusiastic press reviews, but also much success in the World Rally Championship - in 1980, Henri Toivonen won the 29th Lombard RAC Rally in one, and, in 1981, the Sunbeam Lotus brought the entire manufacturer's championship to Talbot
This is one of the rare late build DAC registered Lotus Sunbeams in moonstone blue with black decals as sold by Arbury Service Station

Hi everyone!
Fortunately I have the time to upload my newest creation! It's a train and it's the model of an ICE 3. It is 196 stud (157 cm) long and contains more than 3300 pieces, two IR receivers, two battery boxes and two train motors. Hope you like it! Oh, and another important information is, that it will be visible on Zusammengebaut 2016 in November and on Bricks am Meer in April 2017 in Germany!
At first please watch these two videos! The first one shows a crash. The place, where I made the video, wasn't horizontal, and on the slope the train got a too high speed. Well, I can say it is quite stable construction, despite the building techniques of the front. During the crash, only the boogies fell down!
The records of the second one were made after I repaired the train. You can watch it behind this link!
I'm really happy, that it is ready! It took me almost a year to build and become satisfied with the result. You may know, if someone build a train, the front is the most important thing. If it's not good, it's unnecessary to build the other sections. Everything started with an LDD model from a front-idea. I built something in the program, but I didn't like it. Later it came always into my mind and didn't allow me to be calm. So I started to develope the construction. Some month later it looked nice enough to order some parts and make it in real life. It contained so many interesting and strange techniques, that it was a real challenge to put the bricks together in the program, and with real bricks it was hard, too. And the real 3D model was ugly! But I said, that it has to be possible to find out something, which makes the model better. So I made some changes, and some more, and some more, and finally I liked it, and I thought that I found the maximum! I stored the train (only the front section) and some other parts on the table in the middle of our house. And one night, I couldn't sleep. I woke up and went out to the table to do something. And I don't know why, but I put an element into the middle of the front. And I said 'wow'! It was perfect (for me of course, for you, I still don't know, but I will read the comments :) )! Some gaps disappeared, some sections got new positions. That element made so big changes on the overall look, that it was incredible! I felt high, but next day I was very sleepy. :D
More pictures are on MOCpages!
