Desolation Wilderness, Lake Echo to Eagle Falls, two days, about 20 miles

Camdeboo National Park, Eastern Cape, South Africa

The only sound is that of the wind. There is nothing living within a 120km radius of this spot on the globe. No man can venture over land to get here. Ever so peaceful, yet an eerie silence can be felt.

The 109th Airlift Wing uses the site known as Camp Raven on the Greenland ice cap to educate new pilots to both land and takeoff on prepared ‘skiways’ which are in essence groomed runways of pack ice and snow. The desolate landscape makes this place an ideal site for training.

There is a fearful splendor in absolute desolation.

Like the title says

I like the vignetting effect, so I added a bit more :) I tried out Adobe Lightroom for these last two and like it so far.

The raw sienna in the middle ground brightens up this desolate and gloomy scene. Inspired by the view of a lonely tree in Barrhaven.

I created this concept that shows a picture of desolation. The first sight feeling of being in a strange and hostile place is inevitable.

A very a desolate place where not too many people go.

Once again we were headed South on Interstate 5 coming from Reno, NV. The drive is long and boring, so I was looking for something interesting to shoot. As you can see, there is not much out there.
