The Business Design Centre is an exhibition centre on Upper Street in the district of Islington in London. It occupies a Grade II listed building formerly known as the Royal Agricultural Hall, which opened in c.1861. According to the official Islington Libraries compilation The Royal Agricultural Hall had its origins when in 1798 the Duke of Bedford, Sir Joseph Banks and other nobles and gentlemen decided to form the Smithfield Club which would hold annual exhibitions of livestock, agricultural produce and agricultural implements.
The Smithfield Show, later the Royal Smithfield Show, ran here from the opening of the building in 1861 until it moved to Earls Court in 1949 needing extra space to allow the showing of agricultural machinery. It also hosted the first Crufts dog show in 1891.

"DESIGN TOUCH" helps us "enjoy design with 5 senses" And this year, it introduces examples of "Designs that Give Shape to Dreams"
DESIGN TOUCH Exhibition - Design exhibition which fulfills dreams -This event is for realizing the 'shaping a dream into a design' which is the theme of 'DESIGN TOUCH 2009'. The exhibition is titled a 'Design exhibition which fulfills dreams', and comprehensive designs on various subjects which have been created with a unique process by 'IDEO', an innovation and design firm with an internationally renowned reputation, will be exhibited for the first time in Japan.
This is as close as I can come to uploading a precise image from Gebrauchsgraphik to show how the magazine used Futura in all of it's typography for it's internal design and layout until around 1937. It was different for the design of the covers where the whole layout and choice of type changed from issue to issue.
This article by Ludwig Holwein is from one of my 1933 issues of Gebrauchsgraphik. He produced very popular posters for many different German agencies and since Germany was undergoing the Great Depression (along with the rest of the world) his work promoting German tourism was especially in vogue at that time. (Anything to get money circulating in Germany.)
The article also had other Holwein illustrations but all in black and white, not in the full color that they were originally published in.

A re-design of my original tattoo. It needed to make it more "tattooish". www.flickr.com/photos/mynameisannie/3252330767/ I couldn't get the background to look how I wanted but I have choosen a tattooist that I think will be able to create it beautifully.
The tattoo is basically meant to represent a mini family tree... 3 branches representing 3 generations of women (my grandmother, my mum and me). Both my grandmother and mum have passed on so its also a tribute to the two women that inspired me the most.
The three kittens are the three cats that belonged to us; The gray one is Periwinkle, he was a stray that my mum brought home when she was a teenager (to the dismay of my granddad, who was only going to let him stay for a couple of days but during those few days he fell in love with the fluffy little guy). The ginger was my grandmothers cat Muffins, and lastly the black/white is my adorable stray kitty kat, Astro.
The tree is a silk cotton tree (Bombax) in some seasons it looks like a cherry blossom tree (the flowers are actually a creamy colour, but I really wanted pink). I chose this tree because all three of us have a passion for fashion, sewing and fabric. The silk cotton tree cant actually make cotton though... so I guess its more the name that attracted me then the qualities. It is also an Australian native.

In my "Design: Critical Issues" course, we spent most of the semester collaborating with the Marine Biology department to translate scientific information to the general public. This particular group studied hermit crab clusters; I used the actual data from their findings to create the poster. The shapes on the top represent the measurements collected during the day, the bottom being the same clusters during the night.
Pattern design focused on geometric shapes.

Alternative design of the regular Balloons 441 design (the bottom one is the rare one), also shown in Meg's book. I'm glad they changed the design to the one we all know and love, but it is fun to see the design in progress!

Love Design è una grande Mostra Mercato pensata per tutti gli amanti del design, dell’arredamento e dell’arte in generale che, grazie al patrocinio del Comune di Milano-Cultura, verrà ospitata per la prima volta quest’anno nella più prestigiosa sede pubblica milanese dedicata all’arte contemporanea, il PAC-Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, da venerdì 23 a domenica 25 ottobre 2009.
Straordinaria iniziativa nata nel 2003 e giunta alla sua quarta edizione, è promossa congiuntamente da AIRC Associazione Italiana per la Ricerca sul Cancro-Comitato Lombardia e da ADI Associazione per il Disegno Industriale, con il duplice obiettivo di sostenere la ricerca sul cancro, (nell’edizione 2007 sono stati raccolti 400 mila euro) e insieme creare un volano di interesse intorno al design italiano: da un lato promuovere una nuova forma di sensibilizzazione sull’attività svolta da AIRC e raccogliere fondi per alimentarla e sostenerla, dall’altro creare una nuova occasione per divulgare il design all’interno di un più vasto contesto culturale coinvolgendo la vita sociale di Milano.

The somewhat mythological RAC guidelines. These intensely detailed and precise guidelines outline the new RAC identity (also by North) established in 1997.
Things I've come to know or stories I've heard:
— 250 copies were produced
— Printed four colour process with six spot colours and two varnishes
— The guidelines took one year to design and produce
— Without substantial experience in large corporate identity programmes (at the time), North simply 'winged it' throughout the identity development. Although:
— A copy of the BMW corporate design guidelines by Zintzmeyer & Lux acted as a primary design reference
— As an example of the rigour undertaken for the programme, tests of the hi-vis clothing designs were conducted by North on a hard shoulder of a highway in wet and windy, low visibility conditions
