Moored on the Pitt River a snow covered, self propelled working barge ( My description )
Beautiful British Columbia snow capped Coastal Mountains
Canada
** The snow has since passed - I still have a collection of wintry images yet to share. Hope you enjoy them.
~C
Pitt Lake is the second-largest lake in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. About 53.5 square kilometres in area, it is about 25 km long and about 4.5 km wide at its widest. It is one of the world's relatively few tidal lakes, and among the largest. In Pitt Lake, there is on average a three foot tide range; thus Pitt Lake is separated from sea level and tidal waters during most hours of each day during the 15 foot tide cycle of the Pitt River and Strait of Georgia estuary immediately downstream. The lake's southern tip is 20 km upstream from The Pitt River confluence with the Fraser River and is 40 km east of Downtown Vancouver.
Pitt Lake is in a typical U-shaped glacial valley in the Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains. The overdeepening of the lower end of the valley over the span of the Wisconsin glaciation created a trough over 140 m below current sea level. After initial glacial retreat at around 13,000 years ago a saltwater fjord occupied this basin when relative sea levels were still ca 120 to 140m above current levels in the region. Unlike neighbouring Indian Arm and Howe Sound farther west, this fjord basin became partly cut off from tidal waters by sedimentation of the lower Fraser River ca 10,500 years ago, and Pitt Lake is now considered a tidal fjord lake.
Pitt Lake is the second largest of a series of north-south oriented fjord-lakes incising the southern slopes of the Pacific Ranges, the largest being Harrison Lake located 60 km to the east. The other fjord-lakes include Coquitlam Lake, Alouette Lake, Stave Lake, and Chehalis Lake.
The Pitt River drains into the northern end of Pitt Lake. The western shore of Pitt Lake are protected within Pinecone Burke Provincial Park, while most of the eastern shore are protected within Golden Ears Provincial Park. The southern end of Pitt Lake features an extensive marshland called Pitt Polder. While most of this marshland has since been drained for agricultural use, the northernmost portion is strictly protected in order to provide critical habitat for migratory birds.
Communities
The community of Pitt Meadows and the First Nations reserve of Pitt Lake Indian Reserve 5 are located at the southern end of the lake. Just southwest of the lake is the community of Port Coquitlam, which is across the Pitt River from Pitt Meadows. At the north end of the lake is a locality named Alvin, which is a transport and shipping point for logging companies and their employees.

Online photo exhibition is the last 3 days! For details, check the description. I was planning to actually exhibit it at a gallery in Tokyo in April, but it was postponed at the request of the government.
COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2 is attacking all over the world. Japan is no exception, and everyday is becoming more difficult. As a photographer, I also thought about life and postponed the exhibition according to the government's request. The Japanese government does not support artists. So I decided to hold an online photo exhibition. This is free to watch.
The photo exhibition should be in the dark in the room at night, preferably with the playlist. Look at the brightness of mobile terminals at 1/3.
Thank you for your support. Thanks to everyone, we had more access than in Japan. Thank you. Last but not least, I would be happy if you could share the URL of the photo exhibition on your SNS. Thank you!

Description in English, German and Dutch
English:
During my walk from Murnau to Ohlstadt in Bavaria I walked along the Loisach river. The Loisach is a tributary of the Isar and the Isar is a tributary of the world famous Danube. Some parts of the river have a beautiful blue-green color. I decided to get off the trail to get a closer look at the river. When I got close to the current I was enchanted by the beauty of the water and the green surroundings. I was all alone, because the spot I had chosen is not known by tourists, but it is very beautiful. On the waterfront I decided to take some pictures first and then turn my phone off completely. No distraction for a while. With my pants pulled up I walked barefoot into the clear water and that was very cooling on this sun-drenched warm summer day. Staring at the impressive mountains of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, I then stood in the shallow part of the river and decided to close my eyes and think about nothing for a while. It was another special experience in beautiful Bavaria where I experienced a moment of satisfaction and ultimate peace in one of the most beautiful tributaries of the world. All my beautiful experiences of recent times have been made possible by the 9 euro ticket. Unfortunately, everything comes to an end and August 31 was the last day that the ticket could be used. I used it for three months. Only 27 euros for travelling in thee months. Sweet 9 euro ticket, it was an honor to carry you with me in the summer period. I miss you already, but the memories will last forever in the form of my photos. There will therefore be a lot of pictures here on Flickr of my adventures in Germany.

Even geen afleiding. Despite being a substantial village before the Norman Conquest, the description of Alwalton in the Doomsday Book makes no mention of a church. However, they were certain that there was a church a century later because the earliest parts of the present building date back from 1170 and were clearly the extension of an existing building.
This 1170 work (the first two bays of the north aisle with their solid piers, round arches and skilfully carved leaf volute capitals) is not only the most ancient part of the church, it is also the most beautiful.
During the early 13th century the church was considerably extended. The tower was built and the nave lengthened by the insertion of an extra bay at the west end and widened by adding a south aisle. It seems likely that the wonderful carving around the west door was also carried out at this time but it could have been earlier, having been moved from another part of the church.
With the completion of the 13th century work the church became much as we see it today, except for the transepts and chancel. But things might have been very different if plans to rebuild the church around 1300 had been successful. At that time work began on the construction of a central tower along with a high vaulted chancel and vaulted transept. Inexplicably, after about 30 years, the work ceased. The partly completed tower was taken down and only the chancel and transepts remain from this grandiose plan.
During the next 500 years there was only one major alteration and this took place during the 15th century. The nave walls were raised to form a clearstory and the church was re-roofed. Adding the clearstory involved building new arches at the crossing and it was at this time that the 13th century vaulting in the chancel and transepts was destroyed. Traces of the vaulting can still be seen on several walls but we can only imagine how splendid the building would now be if this magnificent ceiling had survived.
By the middle of the 19th century the church had fallen in to a sorry state and extensive repairs were begun in 1840

DESCRIPTION OF HISTORIC PLACE
Gairloch Gardens is located at 1306 Lakeshore Road on the south side of Lakeshore Road, along the shore of Lake Ontario in the Town of Oakville. The property consists of a three storey stone and stucco residence that was constructed from 1923 to 1924.
The property was designated by the Town of Oakville in 1986 for its heritage value under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (By-law 1986-192).
HERITAGE VALUE
Located at 1306 Lakeshore Road, Gairloch Gardens is a lake estate associated with two prominent Oakville locals. Colonel W.G. MacKendrick had the home built for his family in 1923. Upon his death, Toronto investment banker, James Gairdner, purchased the estate. Gairdner named the estate “Gairloch” after a small Scottish town. Upon Gairdner's death in 1972 the estate was bequeathed to the Town of Oakville for use as a park and gallery for contemporary artists.
Gairloch Gardens is a good example of Tudor style residence. Typical of this style is the stone and stucco exterior and steeply pitched roof. Continuing with this style are the tall narrow fenestrations with multi paned windows. The hip roof features a prominent cross gable with exposed beams between the first and second storey. The estate has many unique attributes such as a meandering stream, pond and formal gardens.
CHARACTER-DEFINING ELEMENTS
Character defining elements that contribute to the heritage value of Gairloch Gardens include the:
- proximity to Lake Ontario
- three storey stone and stucco exterior
- hip roof
- prominent cross gable
- original twelve and eighteen paned windows
- two large stone chimneys with decorative chimney pots
- exposed beams
- meandering stream
- pond
- formal garden areas within the park setting
Many thanks for your visits, faves and comments. Cheers.
Sacred Kingfisher
Scientific Name: Todiramphus sanctus
Description: The Sacred Kingfisher is a medium sized kingfisher. It has a turquoise back, turquoise blue rump and tail, buff-white underparts and a broad cream collar. There is a broad black eye stripe extending from bill to nape of neck. Both sexes are similar, although the female is generally lighter with duller upper parts. Young birds are similar to the female, but have varying amounts of rusty-brown edging to feathers on the collar and underparts, and buff edges on the wing coverts.
Distribution: The Sacred Kingfisher is common and familiar throughout the coastal regions of mainland Australia and less common throughout Tasmania. The species is also found on islands from Australasia to Indonesia and New Zealand.
Habitat: The Sacred Kingfisher inhabits woodlands, mangroves and paperbark forests, tall open eucalypt forest and melaleuca forest.
Seasonal movements: In Australia, Sacred Kingfishers spend the winter in the north of their range and return south in the spring to breed.
Feeding: Sacred Kingfishers forage mainly on the land, only occasionally capturing prey in the water. They feed on crustaceans, reptiles, insects and their larvae and, infrequently, fish. The birds perch on low exposed branch on the lookout for prey. Once prey is located, the Sacred Kingfisher swoops down and grasps it in its bill, returning to the perch to eat it.
Breeding: For most of the year Sacred Kingfishers are mainly solitary, pairing only for the breeding season. Usually two clutches are laid in a season. Both sexes excavate the nest, which is normally a burrow in a termite mound, hollow branch or river bank. The nest chamber is unlined and can be up to 20m above the ground. Both sexes also incubate the eggs and care for the young.
Calls: The voice of the Sacred Kingfisher is a loud "ek ek ek ek" repeated continuously throughout breeding season. Birds also give a "kee kee kee" in excitement and a series of chirring, scolding notes when alarmed.
Minimum Size: 19cm
Maximum Size: 24cm
Average size: 21cm
Average weight: 45g
Breeding season: September to December; occasionally extended to March, if conditions are favourable.
Clutch Size: 3 to 6
Incubation: 18 days
Nestling Period: 26 days

Description of the District
The Cross-Melville Heritage Conservation District is bounded by Sydenham, Melville, Cross and Victoria Streets in the former Town of Dundas, now the City of Hamilton. The district consists of 49 properties. These properties are predominantly single family dwellings with the exception of three churches.
Cultural Heritage Value of the District
According to the Cross-Melville Heritage Conservation District Study - Background Report the cultural heritage value of the district lies in its historical and associative value, design or physical value as well as the contextual value. The Background Report concludes:
“The Cross-Melville area constitutes a superb collection of buildings with particularly fine architectural attributes. Tree planted along the streets enhance the surroundings of individual buildings and provide expansive canopies over adjacent streets. Developed in the 1840s and 1850s as the first exclusively residential area distinct from the commercial and industrial locales of Dundas, this neighbourhood is associated with numerous prominent citizens, mayors and councillors, including George Rolph, William Notman, Alexis Begue and the Grafton family”.

Little Pied Cormorant
Scientific Name: Microcarbo melanoleucos
Description: The Little Pied Cormorant is one of the most common of Australia's waterbirds, occurring on water bodies of almost any size. It is entirely black above and white below. The face is dusky and, in adult birds, the white of the underside extends to above the eye. Immature birds resemble the adults except there is no white above the eye.
Similar species: The Little Pied Cormorant resembles the Pied Cormorant,Phalacrocorax varius, but is easily distinguished by its smaller size and proportionately shorter bill The Pied Cormorant also has an orange-yellow face patch and black thighs.
Distribution: The Little Pied Cormorant is found throughout Australia.
Habitat: The Little Pied Cormorant is at home in either fresh or salt water. It is often seen in large flocks on open waterways and on the coast, especially where large numbers of fish are present. On inland streams and dams, however, it is often solitary. The Little Pied Cormorant mixes readily with the similar sized Little Black Cormorant, P. sulcirostris.
Feeding: Little Pied Cormorants feed on a wide variety of aquatic animals, from insects to fish. On inland streams and dams they turn to their most favoured food: yabbies (freshwater crayfish). These are caught by deep underwater dives with both feet kicking outward in unison. Other crustaceans are also taken, with shrimps being a large part of their diet in winter months.
Breeding: Little Pied Cormorants breed either in colonies or, less commonly, in single pairs. The nest is a flat platform of sticks, lined with green leaves and is usually placed in a tree. Both adults share in egg incubation and care of the young.
Minimum Size: 50cm
Maximum Size: 66cm
Average size: 58cm
Clutch Size: 3 to 4

Accessibility Description: A towering curtain of rain hangs suspended in the sky, glowing golden where the low sun strikes it. The rain appears to evaporate before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga, while below, red rock mesas catch the last light of the day. Warm tones highlight the cliffs on the left, their rugged forms rising above a dense forest of green pines and junipers. The sky is filled with dramatic clouds, a mixture of gray, peach, and white, with glimpses of deep blue breaking through at the edges. The entire scene conveys both grandeur and transience, a fleeting desert storm dissolving into light above the enduring sandstone of Sedona.

Brown Honeyeater
Scientific Name: Lichmera indistincta
Description: The Brown Honeyeater is a medium-small pale grey-brown honeyeater with a distinctive yellow tuft behind its eye. It also has yellow to olive wing patches and tail panels. It is pale grey below, darker olive brown above and has a long curved black bill. Young birds are paler with more yellow colouring and a yellow gape (open bill). It has a fast, undulating flight and is seen either singly, in pairs or small flocks in flowering trees and shrubs.
Similar species: The Brown Honeyeater is similar to the Dusky Honeyeater, Myzomela obscura, in size and shape, but this species is much darker brown and lacks the tuft behind the eye and the yellowish wing patches. It could also be confused with females or young birds of the Scarlet Honeyeater, M. sanguinolenta, or Red-headed Honeyeater, M. erythrocephala, but these are smaller with shorter tails, lack the eye tuft, often have a reddish face and have very different calls.
Distribution: The Brown Honeyeater is widespread in Australia, from south-western Australia across the Top End to Queensland, and through New South Wales on the eastern side of the Great Dividing Range to Swansea in the Hunter Region. It is rarely seen southwards from Lake Macquarie to the Parramatta River, Sydney, but is regularly recorded in suitable habitats such as Homebush Bay and Kurnell in small numbers, and is a vagrant to the Illawarra region. It is found west of the Great Dividing Range in New South Wales to Tamworth and Gunnedah and south-west to Hillston. The Brown Honeyeater is also found in Bali and the Lesser Sundas, Indonesia, Aru Island and in parts of Papua New Guinea.
Habitat: The Brown Honeyeater is found in a wide range of wooded habitats, usually near water. It is often found in mangroves and woodlands or dense forests along waterways. It can also be found in mallee, spinifex woodlands, low dense shrublands, heaths and saltmarshes, as well as in monsoon forests or rainforests in the Top End. It is common in parks, gardens and street trees in urban areas as well as on farms and in remnant vegetation along roadsides.
Seasonal movements: Nomadic or partly nomadic in response to flowering of food plants. Some seasonal movements in parts of its range.
Feeding: The Brown Honeyeater feeds on nectar and insects, foraging at all heights in trees and shrubs. It may be seen in mixed flocks with other honeyeaters. In Western Australia, these include the Singing Honeyeater, White-fronted Honeyeater and the Red Wattlebird, while in the Top End it is often seen with the Dusky Honeyeater. However, it will be displaced at bird feeders by larger birds.
Breeding: During the breeding season, male Brown Honeyeaters defend a nesting territory by singing from tall trees and they stand guard while the female builds the nest and lays the eggs. The small neat cup-nest is made from fine bark, grasses and plant down, bound with spiders web, and is slung by the rim in a shrub, fern or tree at up to 5 m from the ground and is usually very well-hidden by thick foliage. Only the female incubates, but both sexes feed the young. Nest predators include Pied Currawongs, snakes and cats. Brush Cuckoos, Pallid Cuckoos,Horsfield's Bronze-Cuckoos and Shining Bronze-Cuckoos will parasitise nests.
Calls: Clear, ringing, musical: 'whit, whit, whitchit'
Minimum Size: 12cm
Maximum Size: 16cm
Average size: 14cm
Average weight: 11g
Breeding season: April to November in north; June to February in south
Clutch Size: 2 to 3 eggs

In the rain I hurried from the H'Art Museum to the Oudeschans, but just had to stop at the pretty little Hoftuin. I was drawn there by the very bright pink of these great Callas. They were originally seen and collected for the Western World by Anton Rehmann (1840-1917) who traveled in South Africa 1875-1877 and 1879-1880. They're from Natal, South Africa. The scientific description (1883) is by Heinrich Gustav Adolf Engler (1844-1930),
DESCRIPTION: We have very cloudy weather in CZ during December. I had only approx 20 minutes to catch a photo of Great Conjunction between the clouds in December 22, around 17 PM. The photo is not so impressive, but I am happy to had small change to captured it. Jupiter is in the center together with his four moons, Saturn is close right. His egg shape is caused by his ring. There is no more details because low elevation (approx 13 degree) above horizon and strong wind...
This conjunction was visible in year 7 BC and very probably was perceived like sing of coming the Messiah.... This is a very special abandoned building in Rotterdam South. At the front and back of the former school building, a ship's sail has been incorporated as if the building were a ship. Once here before I uploaded a photo of a broken window of this building. It is a real shame that such a beautiful and original building has been empty and unused for a long time. The building is now often a favorite object for vandals.

Ik had al eerder een keer hier een ingegooide ruit van dit gebouw geüpload hier. Het is echt heel erg zonde dat zo’n prachtig en origineel gebouw leegstaat en regelmatig een prooi is voor vandalen.

Accessibility Description: A close-up of a tall wildflower stands in the foreground, its slender stems topped with clusters of small, vivid pink petals. Fine hairs along the green leaves and stems catch the golden light of the low sun, creating a soft halo. The background is an out-of-focus forest floor, dappled with warm sunlight streaming between tree trunks. Lens flares in soft green and gold add a dreamy effect to the sunlit scene.

“All Aborigines from Sydney onwards, are to be made prisoners of war. If they resist, they are to be shot and their bodies hung from trees in the most conspicuous places near where they fall, so as to strike terror into the hearts of the surviving natives” – Governor Macquarie – Orders 1816
