I tried a neutral density experiment today (thanks Victor for the tip) Got an old UV filter and stuck a piece of welders protection glass on it. Went out and shot with it. Still need some practice though.

Article Title: Morphology and stomatal density of developing Arceuthobium americanum (lodgepole pine dwarf mistletoe) fruit: a qualitative and quantitative analysis using environmental scanning electron microscopy
Author: Dylan J. Ziegler, Cynthia Ross Friedman
Citation: Botany, 2017, 95(3): 347-356, doi.org/10.1139/cjb-2016-0187

Caption: Fig. 4. Mature fruit of Arceuthobium americanum sampled in late August. (a) Pre-discharge fruit showing pedicel (P) in red, abscission zone (Ab) in orange, and the fruit body (Fr) in green. (b) Inset from (a) showing how the bricklike cells of the abscission zone are aligned with their long axes parallel to the transverse axis of the fruit. After discharge, fruits are severed from the parent at the interface between the fruit body and abscission zone (broken yellow line). Post-discharge, the fruit body is released from the plant, leaving the remnants seen in (c). A small amount of viscin (Vi), coloured cyan, persists and is encircled by the remains of the exocarp (Ex), coloured purple. Scale bars: (a) 400 µm; (b) 400 µm; (c) 200 µm. www.nrcresearchpress.com/journal/cjb
