This afternoon about half a dozen food trucks set up at the Rice County Fairgrounds in Faribault Minnesota. They were nice and spaced out so everybody could enjoy some great food outdoors and do it safely
I had to try the spicy garlic wings, I love chicken wings and am always ready to try somebodies recipe
On Tuesday night I cooked a meal for 7 people. I haven't cooked this much food since leaving my (large) family to come to Australia. Usually I cook for 1-2, at the most 3 people.
The Asian curry pastes and sauces take a while to prepare before cooking. The other parts of this dish, though as simple as hardboiling eggs, slicing raw cucumber or deep-frying dried ikan bilis ('small fish') need to be prepared in advance to avoid rushing.
I started preparing EVERYTHING at 5pm, and began cooking at 6.30pm, for a 7.30pm start! Whew... what a rush! Thank goodness my husband came home to help me!
The verdict: it was a hit with the gang! I enjoyed it too, because I haven't had traditional Malaysian food for a while now, living in a mainly Caucasian country town.
I will improve my chicken curry though. It had absolutely no hint of fiery-ness = not enough chilli. More like chicken stew with Asian spices!!
--- photo taken by hubby, my hands were very oily at that stage... and i was ravenous!
UPDATE: Submitted to Friday Food Fiesta (Breakfast week) as my all-time favourite breakfast.
I prefer savoury breakfast to sweet ones.
Sorry for using an old photo, but I don't think I have any chance of having it here again for a while in Bunbury! =)
Frying vegetarian soya bean curd skin.
You may know it better as “zai er” or 齋鹅 (vegetarian mock goose).

Yau ja gwai is often used as dipping snacks on the Bak Kut Teh
Youtiao or "oil strip" - also known as "yau ja gwai" in Cantonese literally means "deep-fried demon" - is a long, golden-brown, deep fried strip of dough in Chinese cuisine and other East and Southeast Asian cuisines.
Conventionally, youtiao are lightly salted and made so they can be torn lengthwise in two. Youtiao are normally eaten as an accompaniment for rice congee or soy milk for breakfast.

a ONE word story!
This afternoon I grabbed my point and shoot and took a walk down by the beach. Normally the gulls are usually flying, perched on one foot, or smashing clams on the rocks. For some reason this guy (gal/gull?) was basking in the sun, dreaming of another life where clams are deep fried and put into hot dog rolls.
Pass the tartar sauce please!
(this is fun on black . . . just type L)

The normal serving is 3 pieces of fish along with the fries but I ordered an additional piece. These guys were amazing! I would highly recommend trying their food
At any typical Malaysian-Chinese noodle stalls, it is all choices that matters.
Step 1: you choose the type of cooking: Soup or Dry-tossed
Step 2: the soup base - clear bean & anchovies broth or coconut milk curry / If dry-tossed, there is an option of adding a pinch of curry to spice things up.
Step 3: the type of noodle : yellow hokkien, yellow hakka, rice vermicelli, rice flat noodle or combination
Step 4: side-orders of meat balls, fish balls, combination of both called "fly ball", stuffed chilies, stuffed tofu, deep-fried tofu skin, deep-fried fishball, deep-fried turnip cakes, fish-cakes etc.
Step 5: the soup base for the side-orders.
...and voilà! The order is completed and your noodle will be tailored cooked.
Surprisingly these decisions are often made within 1 minute, just like that daily cup of coffee at your local Starbucks :)
