A farily common reef denizen. I've begun paying more attention to these shrimp as I ramp up my macro to supermacro efforts. I liked this shrimp's depth of focus. I'll post a super macro photo later that focuses on the mouth parts.

This is now the...tenth? (eleventh?) Organization 13 coat hand-crafted by Saeru. The customer requested a few specifics : to use the smaller "biker jacket" size #10 zipper (instead of our default over-sized #30 zips) and also for a functional hood. (And the pockets are functional as well, but that is a default feature.) This coat is also fully lined by request, and the outside is, as always, soft garment vinyl from syfabrics.com

The paddlesteamer Patris was built in 1860 by Lungley, London, had a tonnage of 641 tons and length of 66 metres and was owned at the time of her loss by the Hellenic Steam Shipping Co., Syra.
On February 23, 1868, while on a voyage with 400 passengers and crew from Piraeus to Syros, Patris struck at Koundouros reef in Kea island in bad visibility. She broke in two pieces the next day and sank in deeper waters at depths ranging from 30 to 55 meters. There were no casualties.
Note: PSS Patris was originally known as the KING OTHON and was ordered by King Otto (later King Othon) of Greece, together with sistership QUEEN AMALIA (later EVNOMIA). Both ships were transfered to the Hellenic lines, when the king and queen were expelled from Greece.

Shawn Miller (#yeahiknowshawnmiller) and I were finishing a dive and taking photos of a Roboastra luteolineolata nudibranch. This dragonet moved in and really stole the show. These are great fish to observe: not shy, has moments where it isn't constnalty moving. At least somewhat curious.

Cargo ship Kyra Eleni, (former OTTA), registry of Piraeus 2290, IDL:SWZR, gross registered tonnage 2290 TR and net registered tonnage 1071 TR, carrying capacity 3658 tons, length 99m, built in 1949 at TRONDHZEMS M/V shipyard in TRONDHZEM, Norway, powered by a MAN engine 1890 BHP, speed 12 knots.
On the 5th January 1978 at 21.00 p.m she sailed from Lavrio port to Bulgaria non-carrying and with ballast.
At midnight the weather was getting worse and worse. At around 01.00 a.m on the 6th January 1978 in Cavo Doro she came across severe northeastern wind Beaufort force 8.
Since the weather conditions were about to get even worse according to previous weather forecasts, the captain decided to resort to Karystos bay till they got better. The dark, the heavy rain, the other anchored ships and the strong regional winds increased the risk level and the captain led the ship up and down the leeward side till dawn. Nevertheless, at 07.00 a.m on 6/1/78 the strong winds reached Beaufort force 10-11 and the ship was not able to turn back to Karystos. Instead, she headed southwest towards a leeward bay of Sounio.
At 12.30 she tried to sail into Legrena gulf. Once again the sailing in was cancelled due to strong winds and the captain decided to resort to the leeward side of Patroclos Island waiting for the weather to get better. When she approached it, the crew was ready to anchor near the coast.
Due to strong winds the ship could not be steered efficiently. She could not head full astern and despite the cast anchor her port crashed against the rocks. Moving back she listed on the left and cast her right anchor. Water started coming in through the engine room and hold number 2. An SOS was sent out. All passengers abandoned the ship and reached land using a rope ladder.
Kyra Eleni sank at 14.50 on the 6th January 1978.
The wreck of the Mama Viña sits upright in about 30m/96ft of water, ever defying the prevailing current with a turn in to the port side. This steel hulled trawler was intentionally sunk in 1996 after having suffered extensive damage while running aground during a hurricane. Located just south of Xcaret, the sunken vessel is often host to barracuda, jacks, and other schooling fish. The current here can be quite strong at times. While the Mama Viña makes an excellent introduction to wreck diving, recreational divers not trained in overhead environments should avoid entering the open foreward pump bay and central corridors. Although the wreck has only spent a few years on the sea floor, coral and stinging hydroids have quite effectively covered most all surfaces. Gloves and a long wetsuit are highly recommended. This is not a difficult dive, but given the depth, potential for current, overhead environment, and possibility of entanglement or separation, it should be considered an advanced site.
The day of the dive, there was no wind, the sea was extremely calm and no current at the surface. There was a small drift at the bottom. The vessel exploration was a lot of fun. I couldn’t get into the engine chamber at it was too tight getting in with my camera.
Equipment used: Ikelite Housing, Nikon D200, Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8 @ f/9, 2 Strobes (Ikelite DS-50 and Nikonos SB-105) all in manual control.

I was working in the F14-16 range on my 105mm nikkor and flipped the Super Macro Converter down to take a shot at these omnipresent squat lobsters. I think moving my F stop up to max would have brough in the claws more compltely, but I'm very satisfied with my results on teh eyes of this crustacean!

Strapped a GoPro Hero 4 to my Nauticam rig. Shot images of this Crinoid and Crinoid Crab. My focus distance was set a bit tight, but I thought the images were still worthwhile.

After going about 12 miles straight out into the open ocean off the southern tip of Baja, our group of 7 divers dove down to 110 to 120 feet beneath the waves on a "blue water" deep dive. At one point, we were engulfed by about 10,000 Jack Mackerel in a swirling school known as a "bait ball." They quickly moved off into the blue void a few moments later, quite likely being pursued by unseen predators - Gordo Banks, Sea of Cortez, B.C.S., Mexico
