Dedicated to St Martin & St Mary. A church was first recorded on this site in 1180. The parish church was dedicated on 6 November 1259 by Walter Bronescombe, Bishop of Exeter. The first recorded vicar was in the year 1303.
On 4/2/16 despite a very cold and rainy morning over 150 dedicated volunteers arrived at Bread and Cheese Creek and nearly filled a 40 yard dumpster with trash and debris they removed from this historic stream and its bank totally over 4 tons!!! This included 316 bags of trash, half a truck full of metal to be recycled, 22 gallons of paint, 14 tires, 6 televisions, 6 shopping carts, 3 box springs, a mattress, a couch, a role of barbed wire and a Betamax videotape player and much more!!! Thank you everyone so very much for all your incredible hard work under such tough conditions! Our volunteer dedication to working toward a cleaner, greener, healthier community and environment cannot be topped! Thank you so much!!!

This year, we dedicated 5 beautiful families: 3 on Howe Drive and 2 on Cherry Street. With a formal ceremony, Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region presented these families their new homes. They all worked so hard to put in their 500 'sweat equity' hours, and in turn, hour by hour, these brave and dedicated families built their homes and conquered their journey and accomplished their DREAMS!
They have morphed from Partner Family to Homeowners. CONGRATULATIONS all of you.

Mahalaxmi Temple
An ancient temple dedicated to Mahalaxmi, the Goddess of Wealth, who is known to have stood, on the headland of Malabar Hill until Muslim invaders destroyed it. According to local legend, the Muslims threw an icon of the goddess into the sea. When the British were constructing a sea wall joining Malabar Hill and Worli Island at the end of the 18th century, the local Hindu contractor claimed the goddess appeared to him in a dream. She told him that while several previous attempts to build a dike had failed, his construction would be successful if he promised to rebuild the temple. Amazingly, a statue of the goddess was unearthed during construction of the wall. Upon the walls completion the contractor was granted land nearby where he built the temple to Mahalaxmi. Today, the Mahalaxmi temple is one of the most popular in Mumbai. Its an interesting place to visit and the approaching the temple is lined with beautiful flower stalls.
I didn't dig. I was weeding because of my hip and I finally hurt too much. I went home to get some medicine and came back to catch the tail end of the landscaping. It was all completed, so I did a few cat photos and as I was driving out, here was Kathy walking a dog! Now Kathy had been slaving all day and here she is going even further. That is dedication!

This week, when confronted with hate by venomous jerks who sneaked a nasty photo onto Explore, we came together in an international coalition to decry this evil, and the photo was booted from Explore and the jerk who posted it was forced to recategorize it as "restricted."
Bless you, all my friends, you are wonderful people for standing up for what is right, for standing up against incivility and injustice.
