This pix is dedicated to Nikon.

You see, my nikon broke down again for the 2nd time (since august 06 when I bought the camera). I sent to Nikon Malaysia on 20th and was dissappointed with the kind of service I received from them. Dissappointed because they only have ONE service center in KL (2 for the whole of malaysia, can u believe it?). On Dec 27, I called to ask about the status of my cam and the person who answered me informed that I should know that it took 10 days for them to respond because the queue apparently is very long. Thats certainly not the answer I wanna hear from somebody providing services to clients!! It was dissappointing and the girl was not comforting either.

Today I decided to give them an email. Found an email ID from Nikon website and send them an email...Not even an angry email but just from a very dissappointed user of nikon.

Guess what? Less than one and a half hour after the email, I received a call from Nikon saying that I can come and collect my camera... HAHAHAHAHHAHA!!

Its not a nice feeling when you have to poke something to get a better service.. but I guess I have to do what I have to do.. I need my camera badly!

So this pose is dedicated to Nikon...

Peace! :P

This is a family dedicated channel to our beloved big lad Benji

We got Benji in 2007 when he was 4 years old as the owner was suffering from an illness and was no longer capable of looking after him

We got him on the 21st may 2007 so we used that date to celebrate his birthday

When Benji came to live with us he was a very independant lad and was always the boss especially over my two young sons and he stamped his authority quite quickly

He did test us at the beginning but soon knew that living here with us he was going to get nothing more than love and attention and he got that in abundance

He loved his home comforts as he would often take over the settee and would declare that space as his own

I myself have had health issues and Benji would always pop his head up to see if everything was alright with me and i would do the same with him everynight

We nearly lost Benji in 2013/2014 when we discovered a small lump on his groin and the vet at the time told us it was just a fatty lump and just ignore it

We knew something was not right and advised the vet that we wanted it removed and we would pay for the operation

We booked him in 2 weeks after that appointment and when we got him to the PDSA they told us that it was a good job that we ignored her colleagues advice and decided to go for the operation as it saved his life as this so called fatty lump was actually a growth that was cutting off his blood vessel, The operation was a success and it extended our time with Benji

There was times that we questioned some of the vets advice as for when we kept asking about all the lumps that was appearing on his body and again we were told that they were just fatty lumps

Over the past couple of years we were concerned of a few lumps under his chest and a few that would appear around his ribs etc and again we were told to ignore them as they were fatty lumps

Well those lumps turned out to be cancer and cost our baby boy his life as his liver had also became very enlarged and we had to make a decssion if we wanted to die in agony as we were informed or for the vet to give him that terrible injection

We took him home for a day so that he could say his goodbyes to my sons and we stayed awake with him all night

The following morning we gave him his favourite a tin of tuna and he had a good drink of water and at 10:15am on September 1st 2017 Benji was put to sleep

My wife held him in her arms as i cuddled his head and kept him from seeing the needles and he dropped into his deep sleep forever

The vet that dealt with Benji on his final moment was a wonderful and caring vet and we thank her from the bottom of our hearts for all she done

We love you Benji and we will walk together again one day soon

Forever your

Mammy, Daddy and Brothers

The temple dedicated to the goddess Meenakshi (called Meenakshi Amman Temple) in the city of Madurai, in the state of Tamilnadu is the second largest temple in South India and arguably the best in architecture & decorations. The present temple was constructed by the Nayak King Tirumalai (1623-1655 A.D.) over the partially damaged older temple which dates from Before Christ era.

Sinclair College Opens World’s First Dedicated UAS Indoor Flying Pavilion

Dayton, OH – Sinclair College, home to the National UAS Training and Certification Center, is now home to the world’s first permanent, custom-built unmanned aerial systems (UAS) indoor flying facility following a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 17, coinciding with the 112th anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ first powered flight.

The UAS Indoor Flying Pavilion is the first facility in the world to be constructed and dedicated solely for UAS testing and flight operations. Covering 3,200 sq.ft. and featuring an interior ceiling height of 40 ft., the Pavilion includes a mezzanine flying deck to facilitate testing and instruction, and was constructed to allow GPS signal transmissions to support aircraft navigation.

“The new UAS Indoor Flying Pavilion marks another milestone in aviation and another important step for Sinclair in bringing the most advanced UAS capabilities to the Dayton region,” said Dr. Steve Johnson, President and CEO of Sinclair College. “Through the remarkable partnerships we’ve established, Sinclair is leading the way in what’s being called by industry leaders as the greatest aviation breakthrough since the first manned flight.”

As part of the National UAS Training and Certification Center, the new Pavilion provides space to test out vehicles, sensors and components in a controlled environment, further expanding research and development capabilities. Paired with the Center’s advanced manufacturing and rapid prototyping capabilities, sensor lab, and wind tunnel, the Pavilion will give students the opportunity to take a UAS project from the design phase through production and into flight tests in one location.

Further features of the Pavilion include:

• Fiber-optic network connection to the UAS simulation lab

• Customizable space supporting sense and avoid and other airspace integration challenges

• Controlled environment for high-risk and destructive testing

• Support for simulated cybersecurity attacks and mitigation strategies

Sinclair College is recognized as a national leader in UAS, supported by world-class partnerships, cutting-edge technology, and custom training programs designed to drive the expansion of the UAS industry. Sinclair’s curriculum focuses on real-world applications of emerging UAS and sensor technologies through classroom and online instruction, simulation and hands-on vehicle operations.

Rijksmuseum

Amsterdam

The Rijksmuseum (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈrɛiksmyˌzeːjʏm]; English: Imperial Museum) is a Dutch national museum dedicated to arts and history in Amsterdam. The museum is located at the Museum Square in the borough Amsterdam South, close to the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and the Concertgebouw.[9]

The Rijksmuseum was founded in The Hague in 1800 and moved to Amsterdam in 1808, where it was first located in the Royal Palace and later in the Trippenhuis.[1] The current main building was designed by Pierre Cuypers and first opened its doors in 1885.[3] On 13 April 2013, after a ten-year renovation which cost € 375 million, the main building was reopened by Queen Beatrix.[10][11][12] In 2013 and 2014, it was the most visited museum in the Netherlands with record numbers of 2.2 million and 2.45 million visitors.[5][13] Is is also the largest art museum in the country.

The museum has on display 8,000 objects of art and history, from their total collection of 1 million objects from the years 1200–2000, among which are some masterpieces by Rembrandt, Frans Hals, and Johannes Vermeer. The museum also has a small Asian collection which is on display in the Asian pavilion.[3]

History[edit]

18th century[edit]

Isaac Gogel (1765–1821)

In 1795, the Batavian Republic was proclaimed. The Minister of Finance Isaac Gogel argued that a national museum, following the French example of The Louvre, would serve the national interest. On 19 November 1798, the government decided to found the museum.[1][14]

On 31 May 1800, the National Art Gallery (Dutch: Nationale Kunst-Galerij), precursor of the Rijksmuseum, opened its doors in Huis ten Bosch in The Hague. The museum exhibited around 200 paintings and historic objects from the collections of the Dutch stadtholders.[1][14]

19th century[edit]

In 1805, the National Art Gallery moved within The Hague to the Buitenhof.[1]

In 1806, the Kingdom of Holland was established by Napoleon Bonaparte. On the orders of king Louis Bonaparte, brother of Napoleon, the museum moved to Amsterdam in 1808. The paintings owned by that city, such as The Night Watch by Rembrandt, became part of the collection. In 1809, the museum opened its doors in the Royal Palace in Amsterdam.[1]

In 1817, the museum moved to the Trippenhuis. The Trippenhuis turned out to be unsuitable as a museum. In 1820, the historical objects were moved to the Mauritshuis in The Hague, and in 1838 the 19th-century paintings were moved to Paviljoen Welgelegen in Haarlem.[1]

In 1863, there was a design contest for a new building for the Rijksmuseum, but none of the submissions was considered to be of sufficient quality. Pierre Cuypers also participated in the contest and his submission reached the second place.[15]

In 1876 a new contest was held and this time Pierre Cuypers won. The design was a combination of gothic and renaissance elements. The construction began on 1 October 1876. On both the inside and the outside, the building was richly decorated with references to Dutch art history. Another contest was held for these decorations. The winners were B. van Hove and J.F. Vermeylen for the sculptures, G. Sturm for the tile tableaus and painting and W.F. Dixon for the stained glass. The museum was opened at its new location on 13 July 1885.[15][dead link]

In 1890 a new building was added a short distance to the south-west of the Rijksmuseum. As the building was made out of fragments of demolished buildings, that together give an overview of the history of Dutch architecture, it has come to be known informally as the 'fragment building'. It is also known as the 'south wing', and is currently (in 2013) branded the Philips Wing.

Dutch newsreel from 1959

In 1906 the hall for the Night Watch was rebuilt.[15] In the interior more changes were made, between the 1920s and 1950s most multi-coloured wall decorations were painted over. In the 1960s exposition rooms and several floors were built into the two courtyards. The building had some minor renovations and restorations in 1984, 1995–1996 and 2000.[16]

A renovation of the south wing of the museum, also known as the 'fragment building' or 'Philips Wing', was completed in 1996, the same year that the museum held its first major photography exhibition featuring its extensive collection of 19th-century photos.[17]

21st century[edit]

The atrium after the renovation in 2013

In December 2003, the main building of the museum closed for a major renovation. During this renovation, about 400 objects from the collection were on display in the 'fragment building', including Rembrandt's The Night Watch and other 17th-century masterpieces.[18]

The restoration and renovation of the Rijksmuseum are based on a design by Spanish architects Antonio Cruz and Antonio Ortiz. Many of the old interior decorations were restored and the floors in the courtyards were removed. The renovation would have initially taken five years, but was delayed and eventually took almost ten years to complete. The renovation cost € 375 million.[11]

The reconstruction of the building was completed on 16 July 2012. In March 2013 the museum's main pieces of art were moved back from the 'fragment building' (Philips Wing) to the main building. The Night Watch returned to the Night Watch Room, at the end of the Hall of Fame. On 13 April 2013, the main building was reopened by Queen Beatrix.[10] On 1 November 2014 the Philips Wing reopened with the exhibition Modern Times: Photography in the 20th Century.

Asakusa is a district in Tokyo, most famous for the Senso-ji, a Buddhist temple dedicated to the bodhisattva Kannon. There are several other temples in Asakusa, as well as various festivals.

For most of the twentieth century, Asakusa was the major entertainment district in Tokyo. The Rokku or "Sixth District" was in particular famous as a theater district, featuring famous cinemas such as the Denkikan. The golden years of Asakusa are vividly portrayed in Yasunari Kawabata's novel The Scarlet Gang of Asakusa. The area was heavily damaged by US bombing raids during World War II, particularly the March 1945 firebombing of Tokyo. The area was rebuilt after the war, but has now been surpassed by Shinjuku and other colorful areas in the city, in its role as a pleasure district.

Asakusa is on the north-east fringe of central Tokyo, at the eastern end of the Ginza subway line, approximately one mile east of the major Ueno railway/subway interchange. It is central to the area colloquially referred to as Shitamachi, which literally means "low city," referring to the low elevation of this old part of Tokyo, on the banks of the Sumida River. As the name suggests, the area has a more traditionally Japanese atmosphere than some other neighborhoods in Tokyo do.

St Madoc's was dedicated to the 5th Century St Madoc. The tower is original, but the main church was restored in 1877. In front of the porch, a set of overgrown steps which now have a yew tree growing out of them is the base of an ancient preaching cross. The Victorian scientist, Alfred Russell Wallace, co-founder with Darwin of the Theory of Evolution, was baptised in the church.

Bajo el alba,

entre rosas extasiadas,

salí camino del cielo,

para ver si te encontraba.

Para ver si te encontraba,

y tú, mi vida, no estabas.

Tú no estabas. Entre rosas,

llamándote, bajo el alba.

Hallé rosas de la aurora

venciendo mares de sombra.

Miré rosas de la tierra,

erguidas porque las quieran,

las besen.

Cántico del sol que muere,

vi las rosas del poniente.

Los ángeles las regalan.

Y tú, mi vida, no estabas.

Rosa de nadie, ignorada.

Tú, que te harás porque si,

y sin servir para nada.

De tu perfección avara,

purísima, alma del alma,

rosa bella, sin motivo,

oh, poesía mía, increada.

Troyes Cathedral (French: Cathédrale Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Troyes) is a Roman Catholic church, dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul, located in the town of Troyes in Champagne, France. It is the episcopal seat of the Bishop of Troyes. The cathedral, in the Gothic architectural style, has been a listed a “monument historique” since 1862.

Construction of the present Gothic cathedral was ordered in about 1200 by bishop Garnier de Traînel and begun under bishop Hervé in 1208. Work continued until the 17th century. The cathedral only has one tower, St. Peter’s; St. Paul’s tower to the south was never built, and the building is thus still in fact unfinished. A steeple, with a height of 110 metres, once stood over the crossing: it was ruined by a tornado in 1365, and struck by lightning in 1700, after which it was not rebuilt.

The cathedral structure has suffered other natural disasters: part of the choir was destroyed in a hurricane in 1228, and the roof was set alight by lightning in 1389.

The earliest part is the 13th-century choir. The elaborate façade dates from the beginning of the 16th century. The three main portals are the work of the architect Martin Chambiges. The cathedral escaped destruction during the French Revolution, but was de-Christianised and turned into a Temple of Abundance for several years.

It is particularly noted for its exceptional stained-glass windows dating from the 13th to the 19th centuries and for the magnificent treasury containing among many other important works the reliquary casket or shrine of Saint Bernard de Clairvaux and his closest friend Saint Malachy of Ireland.

The cathedral, containing the nave, two principal aisles and two further subsidiary aisles, is 114 metres (379 feet 6 inches) long and 50 metres (162 feet 6 inches) wide (across the transepts), with a height from the top of the vault of 29.5 metres (96 feet); the height of the cupola and the tower is 62.34 metres (202 feet 7 inches).

In May 1420, the Treaty of Troyes was signed in the cathedral between Henry V of England, his ally Philip of Burgundy and Queen Isabel, wife of the mad Charles VI of France whereby the throne of France would pass to Henry on the death of Charles rather than to Charles’s son the Dauphin. Henry married Catherine of Valois, the French king’s daughter, shortly afterwards in Troyes, either at the cathedral or the church of St Jean.

In July 1429, St. Joan of Arc escorted the Dauphin to Mass in the cathedral en route to proclaiming him Charles VII of France at Reims Cathedral, in contravention of the recently signed Treaty of Troyes.

The great organ of the cathedral, originally built between 1731 and 1736 by Jacques Cochu, was classified as a “monument historique” in 1963 (instrument) and 1974 (case). It was completely rebuilt by Danion-Gonzalez in 1964-69. It boasts 55 stops, 5 keyboards, and a pedal keyboard.

Sefton Church Building

As a Grade 1 listed building, Sefton Church has a lot of history. Our church is a large building built of local stone and listed as Grade 1 – the only such building in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton. It is given three stars in “The Guide To The Thousand Best Churches In The Country”.

It was probably founded about 1170 by the Molyneux family, the local landowners. There is no trace of the original church beyond a few carved fragments. The tower and steeple and part of the north aisle remain from a 14th century reconstruction.

The bulk of the church – chancel, nave, aisles and porch date from the early 16th century. There was major restoration work in the 19th century and particularly in the early 20th century. The latter work was undertaken by the noted church architect, William Caroe and this included a fine carved ceiling, restoration of the rood screen and a new choir vestry.

The church contains some of the finest Tudor furnishings anywhere in the country with a set of elaborately carved screens, choir stalls and pews. There is a wealth of monuments ranging from 16th century brasses of the Molyneux family to the Neo-classical memorial to William Blundell of 1807.
