Batu Caves is a 400 million year old limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples in the Gombak district, 13 kilometres north of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, dedicated to Lord Murugan.

This book will give you a brief tour of European spray paint cans. My passion for aerosol cans began in 1985 East Germany at the young age of twelve, when my parents gave me my first paint can (see the story starting on page 24). After the political transformation in East Germany a few years later, I began to collect more cans. I got my first Western European cans from friends, on holiday, or at various graffiti walls. Some of my cans from those years are missing their caps, which weren’t considered so important back then and simply got lost over the years. I used many of the old cans myself when the graffiti craze crossed over from West Berlin in the early ’90s.
On the pages to follow, you will read about nearly 200 different cans from all around Europe. The paint comes from the collections of both my friends and myself. The cans are in alphabetical order by brand with few exceptions. I’ve included the production dates to the best of my knowledge.
Since these are only a small fraction of the cans that have been on the market in Europe, I would be grateful for help in preparing a second volume. There are some amazing collectors in places like Lille, France who have enormous collections of spray cans. It might be possible to put together another book of those.
I’ve decided not to include American cans because the range of spray paint available in the US alone could easily fill multiple books. For information on US spray cans, check out the work of Cap Matches Color, a group devoted to American cans that has compiled a tremendous collection. Their comprehensive website www.capmatchescolor.com and Facebook page are definitely worth a visit.

The treasury dedicated by the Athenians at Delphi is a representative example of the votive buildings that reproduced on a much smaller scale the form of a temple, with sculpted decoration on the highest parts of the structure (metopes, pediments, acroteria). The small like Doric temple building measures 6,60 m x 8,75 m; the cella opens to east onto a pronaos, distyle in antis. It stood on a high podium without steps, and metal grates ran across the entire front, from the antae to the columns and between the columns themselves. The treasury rests on a triangular terrace, presumably for holding larger votives, but had no steps and was not meant to be regularly entered. Three retaining walls backed onto the hillside; immediately above was the temple terrace, with the temple itself looming over all.
The building’s metopes, 6 x 9, showed the deeds of Herakles (North side) and Theseus (South side). Three compositions extended over multiple panels: the Geryonomachy (six panels on the West side), and the Amazonomachies of Herakles and of Theseus (eight or nine panels total on the East side). The cycle of the Athenian hero Theseus dominated the south side, which was seen by pilgrims as they made their way up to the temple of Apollo. The west pediment depicted a battle; the east, the epiphany of a goddess between chariots.
The entire building, as well as its sculptural decoration, was of white Parian marble. It was built by the Athenians after 490 B.C. with spoils form the Battle of Marathon; the new building replaces an older Treasury of the Athenians of unknown plan.

This self portrait was painted for Paul Gauguin as part of swap between the artists. The other painting is Paul Gauguin's Self-Portrait Dedicated to Vincent van Gogh (Les Misérables), 1888.
In the days before dedicated engines worked the Gatwick Express services any 73/1 could work the diagrams and here in 1986 I did a return trip to pick up a few engines for haulage.
The practice at the time was to carry a disk with the diagram number on it, presumably to aid service staff as the train were cleaned on the go.
73127 departs Gatwick for London in 23rd February 1986 on circuit 3.
Dedicated to one of this man's 'enemies', my wife's great-grand-father who I had the privilege to know, João Maria Dias Ramalho, born June 1st 1897, passed away a few months short of his 110th birthday (9th January, 2007). In the summer of 1918, Grandfather Ramalho was part of a contingent of Infantry sent to Southern Angola to protect that Portuguese colony's Southern border against German incursions from German East Africa (now Namibia), fortunately the war ended and he never had to fire a shot in anger, instead he lived to raise 15 children and see 3 centuries!!!

OMKARESHWAR HD
Omkareshwar (Hindi: ओंकारेश्वर) is a Hindu temple dedicated to God Shiva. It is one of the 12 revered Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. It is on an island called Mandhata or Shivapuri in the Narmada river; the shape of the island is said to be like the Hindu ॐ symbol. There are two temples here, one to Omkareshwar (whose name means "Lord of Omkaara or the Lord of theOm Sound") and one to Amareshwar (whose name means "Immortal lord" or "lord of the Immortals or Devas"). But as per the sloka on dwadash jyotirligam, Mamleshwar is the jyotirling, which is on other side of Narmada river.
As per Shiv Mahapuran, once Brahma (the Hindu God of creation) andVishnu (the Hindu God of Protection and Care) had an argument in terms of supremacy of creation.[1] To test them, Shiva pierced the three worlds as a huge endless pillar of light, the jyotirlinga. Vishnu and Brahma split their ways to downwards and upwards respectively to find the end of the light in either directions. Brahma lied that he found out the end, while Vishnu conceded his defeat. Shiva appeared as a second pillar of light and cursed Brahma that he would have no place in ceremonies while Vishnu would be worshipped till the end of eternity. The jyotirlinga is the supreme partless reality, out of which Shiva partly appears. Thejyothirlinga shrines, thus are places where Shiva appeared as a fiery column of light. Originally there were believed to be 64 jyothirlingas while 12 of them are considered to be very auspicious and holy. Each of the twelve jyothirlinga sites take the name of the presiding deity - each considered different manifestation of Shiva. At all these sites, the primary image islingam representing the beginningless and endless Stambha pillar, symbolizing the infinite nature of Shiva. The twelvejyothirlinga are Somnath in Gujarat, Mallikarjuna at Srisailam in Andra Pradesh, Mahakaleswar at Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh, Kedarnath in Himalayas, Bhimashankar in Maharastra, Viswanath at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, Triambakeshwar near Nashik in Maharastra, Vaidyanath at Deogarh in Jharkand, Nageswar at Dwarka in Gujarat,Rameshwar at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu and Grishneshwar near Aurangabad in Maharastra
Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga also has its own history and stories.Three of them are prominent. The first story is about Vindhya Parvat (Mount). Once upon a time Narada (son of Lord Brahma), known for his non-stop cosmic travel, visited Vindhya parvat. In his spicy way Narad told Vindhya Parvat about the greatness of Mount Meru. This made Vindhya jealous of Meru and he decided to be bigger than Meru. Vindhya started worship of Lord Shiva to become greater than Meru. Vindhya Parvat practiced severe penance and worshipped parthivlinga (A linga made from physical material) along with Lord Omkareshwar for nearly six months. As a result Lord Shiva was pleased and blessed him with his desired boon. On a request of all the gods and the sages Lord Shiva made two parts of the lingas. One half is called Omkareshwara and the other Mamaleshwar or Amareshwar. Lord Shiva gave the boon of growing, but took a promise that Vindhya will never be a problem to Shiva's devotees. Vindhya began to grow, but did not keep his promise. It even obstructed the sun and the moon. All deities approached sage Agastya for help. Agastya along with his wife came to Vindhya, and convinced him that he would not grow until the sage and his wife returned. They never returned and Vindhya is there as it was when they left. The sage and his wife stayed in Srisailam which is regarded as Dakshina Kashi and one of the Dwadash Jyotirlinga.
The second story relates to Mandhata and his son's penance. King Mandhata of Ishvaku clan (an ancestor of Lord Ram) worshipped Lord Shiva here till the Lord manifested himself as a Jyotirlinga. Some scholars also narrate the story about Mandhata's sons-Ambarish and Mucchkund, who had practiced severe penance and austerities here and pleased Lord Shiva. Because of this the mountain is named Mandhata.
The third story from Hindu scriptures says that once upon a time there was a great war between Devas and Danavas(demon), in which Danavas won. This was a major setback for Devas and hence Devas prayed to Lord Shiva. Pleased with their prayer, Lord Shiva emerged in the form of Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga and defeated Danavas.
It is situated in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh state in India. It is about 12 miles (20 km) from Mortakka in Madhya Pradesh.

China's first dedicated cargo airline, China Cargo Airlines is as the colour scheme suggests a major subsidiary of China Eastern (the company owing 51% shares) using their route structure with their main bases being two of Shanghai's airports at either Hongqiao and Pudong.
The airline was founded back in 1998 operating as a joint venture between China Eastern and China Ocean Shipping. Throughout the years, China Ocean Shipping has steadily been reducing their shares to just 17% today, whilst Singapore Airlines Cargo and EVA Cargo have both purchased 16% shares each. The bigger news was the China Cargo merging operations with Great Wall Airlines and Shanghai Airlines Cargo whilst retaining the current China Cargo Airlines name.
Presently, China Cargo Airlines has a fleet of 9 cargo jets within the fleet which include, one Boeing 747-400F on lease from Singapore Airlines Cargo plus 2 Boeing 747-400ERF's. The company also have 6 Boeing 777F's in service with all on lease from GECAS.
Two Zero Seven Eight is currently one of 6 Boeing 777F's in service with China Cargo Airlines, delivered new in July 2010 on lease from GECAS and she is powered by 2 General Electric GE90-115B engines.

Primatiale Cathédrale Saint-Jean Baptiste in Lyon France
Lyon Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, in Lyon, France. It is the seat of the Archbishop of Lyon and home of Lyon astronomical clock.
The 9 metre tall clock is installed in the cathedral of Lyon. An astrolabe indicates the date and position of the moon, sun, and earth, as well as the stars. The first documentary evidence of an astronomical clock in the cathedral is from 1383 but this was destroyed in 1562. In 1661 it was reconstructed by Guillaume Nourrisson. During the French Revolution, all royal insignia was removed. The last restoration in 1954 reset the clock's perpetual calendar of 66 years. It will be accurate until 2019.
The central tower octagon supports several automated figures. After the angel on the left turns the hourglass, an angel on the right keeps the time for the three angels who strike bells to sound the hymn of Saint Jean-Baptiste. The Virgin Mary kneels in a chapel, and turns to the Angel Gabriel as he opens the chapel door, while a dove descends, representing the Holy Spirit. A Swiss Guard rotates around the dome. Movement stops at the sounding of the hour.
In a western niche, a statue rotates at midnight. On Sunday, it is Jesus resurrected; Monday: his death; Tuesday: St. John the Baptist; Wednesday: St. Stephen (patron saint of the ancient basilica) holding the palm of martyrs; Thursday: a child with chalice and host; Friday: a child with the symbols of crucifixion; on Saturday: the Virgin Mary.

Is one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet . It is over 72 km (45 mi) long. The lake is surrounded by many snow-capped mountains and is fed by numerous small streams. The lake does have an outlet stream at its far western end.
Around 90 km to the west of the lake lies the Tibetan town of Gyantse and Lhasa is a hundred km to the northeast. According to local mythology, Yamdok Yumtso lake is the transformation of a goddess.
Yamdrok Lake, also known as Yamdrok Yumtso, has a power station that was completed and dedicated in 1996 near the small village of Pai-Ti at the lake’s western end. This power station is the largest in Tibet.
The lake (638 km² in area, of depth unknown) is fan-shaped, spreading to the south but narrowing up to the north. The mountainous lakeshore is highly crenellated, with numerous bays and inlets. Lake Yamdrok freezes in winter. Like mountains, lakes are considered sacred by Tibetan people, the principle being that they are the dwelling places of protective deities and therefore invested with special spiritual powers. Yamdrok Lake is one of four particularly holy lakes, thought to be divinatory; everyone from the Dalai Lama to local villagers makes pilgrimages there. The others such lakes are Lhamo La-tso, Namtso and Manasarovar. The lake is revered as a talisman and is said to be part of the life-spirit of the Tibetan nation. The largest lake in southern Tibet, it is said that if its waters dry, Tibet will no longer be habitable. The lake is home to the famous Samding Monastery which is on a peninsula jutting into the lake. This monastery is the only Tibetan monastery to be headed by a female re-incarnation. Since it is not a nunnery, its female abbot heads a community of about thirty monks and nuns. Samding Monastery is where Dorje Pakmo, the only female Lama in Tibet, stayed and presided, and stands to the south of Lake Yamdrok Yumtso.
Today, both pilgrims and tourists can be seen walking along the lake's perimeter. One of the lake's islands contains an old fort or castle called Pede Dzong.
The world class boanical collections in Waimea Valley owe there existence to Mir. Keith Woolliams, a dedicated botanical horticulturist who was trained at the Royal Botanic Garden at Kew, on the outskirts of London.
Keith led a rich life traveling around the globe studying botanical collections in England, Japan, Papua New Guinea and Bermuda. He brought to Hawaii his expertise and knowledge of uncommon horticultural treasures, and he acquired seeds, plants, and cuttings from remote places and botanical gardens all over the world. In pre-internet days dozens of letters and packages were dispatched and received daily.
His theme of "Conservation Through Cultivation" resulted in a balance of rare and useful native and Polynesian-introduced plants among exotic horticultural specimens.
What was once an ungroomed valley, filled with koa haole and ravaged by feral cattle was transformed into what you see today by Keith and the many dedicated people he inspired. They oversaw the design, landscaping and construction of the pathways, stone walls and stairs that frame the gardens. Keith's high standards for record keeping and signage persist to this day. He left us in 1998 with a library full of his propagation knowledge, cultivation practices and plant lore which survives to ensure that the precious life forms brought to this valley will thrive here long into the future.
Keith was an inspiring advocate for Hawatian plant conservation and he influenced many young people across the state. He connected Waimea with state, federal and international agencies such as the Center for Plant Conservation, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, and the Botanical Gardens Conservation International - partnerships that Waimea Valley continues to uphold today.
Keith was instrumental in bringing in critically endangered plants from Japan's Ogasawara Islands, hibiscus relatives from all over the world, and with international colleagues he tried to assemble wild-source collections of every species of Erythrina in the world. In the periodical, "Notes from Waimea Arboretum and Botanical Garden" published twice a year until 1992 he stated "Waimea is a labeled and documented collection of plants for educational and scientific purposes, a living gene pool for future generations".
It is with great honor and gratitude that we remember Mr. Keith Woolliams and his dedication to Waimea Valley.

I was so upset last night. And I love that my sister is always willing to be there for me. Even when it's just to vent. She does make me miss being a kid because we had the greatest time growing up together. Last night I found out that just recently tulips have become her favorite flowers in the whole wide world. So this one is specially for her. These are flowers I bought to put in a vase. Gorgeous, right?

Altar dedicated to Lares Augusti by Vicomagistri of Vicus Sandalarius.
The front of the altar features a scene of “tripudium” (divination), as indicated by the cockerel captured in the act of pecking, thereby acting as a good omen before a military campaign. In the center is Augustus, presented as “pontifex maximus” and bearing the “lituus” (curved augural staff), as he presides aver the augural event. The fenale figure an the right, wearing a tiara and neck “torques”, could be a priestess of Cybele depicted as a “Venus Genetrix”. The young man with veiled head on the left can be associated with Gaius Caesar, who headed the Roman Troops in Asia Minor between 2 and 1 BC. On the other two sides we can see a pair of Lares and a Winged Victory adorning a trophy with a shield.
An inscription running on main and short left side reads:

Lucilius freedman of Decimus, Salvius; L Brinnius, freedman of Gaius, Princeps; L Furius, freedman of Lucius, Salvius; chief officers of the district Sandaliarus.
The “vicus sandaliari” was a street in Rome, Region IV, which evidently derived its name from the shops of the cobblers (sandaliarii). The “Vicomagistri”, officials of a “vicus”, were a miniature body politic, and were entitled to possess property, administer common funds, and appoint officials. In the late republic the “vici” offered a chance of finding a sense of community in the chaotic life of the city, and so they and their leaders played an important part in the organization of mass politics.
Augustus reorganized the “vici”. Their center was a “compitum” or cross-roads, at which a cult of the Lares or guardian deities of that locality ("Lares Compitales”) was maintained. The cult now came to include “Augustan Lares” and the genius of the emperor, “Genius Augusti”. The “magistri”, who were usually freedmen (four per vicus), became more prominent in dedicating elaborate sanctuaries or simples altars in honor of the deities protectors of the cross-road, and from 7 BC counted a sequence of five-year periods or lustra in a sort of era to date their activities in relation to the Augustan reform.
