dedicated to the folks in Oklahoma who struggle to deal with the tragedy caused by the tornado 5/20/2013. my prayers and good wishes join those of others around the world at this time.

This building currently serves as the Lake Worth Beach City hall. It once held an auditorium that had a capacity for 350 people on the third floor. This is clearly seen on the front of the building because it still bears the words municipal auditorium.

The building features Moorish towers that were designed by G. Sherman Childs. He came to this area in 1913 to work for Addison Mizner until he was able opened his own firm.

ThIs building was built to be hurricane resistant as well as to provide shelter since the Great Hurricane of 1928 destroyed so such property before in this area. Money ran but while the building was being built due to the onset of the Great Depression. Local businesses helped financially and the building was finally on dedicated on November 28, 1935.

The basement and first floor rooms of this building were used for assemblies and meetings. During WWII the basement was used to entertain the Lake Worth USO.

In 1953 the Lake Worth Playhouse began performances in the building but then closed in the 1970's.

Today this building is still in use and holds all of the city governmental departments.

Explanation in the first comment

In the distance, I spotted the Pantheon which dates back to the Roman emperor Marcus Agrippa who dedicated it in 27 BC. I also noted in the skyline all the roof-top satellite dishes, interesting that dome structures have been used for so long to get messages from the heavens.

Dedicated to Saint Peter and located on the path to Compostela (and therefore a UNESCO World Heritage site), the Benedictine abbey of Moissac was founded in the 700s. According to legend, it was founded even earlier, in 506, by the freshly converted Clovis, King of the Franks, but there is no historical evidence that this ever happened. Affiliated to Cluny from 1047, it became the most powerful monastery of southwestern France and numbered over 1,000 monks —most likely including lay brothers, though.

There is so much to say about the abbey of Moissac that I will, for the most part, refer my readers to the many lengthy internet pages that describe it, not to mention of course the Quercy roman book by Zodiaque. The most famous parts are the stunning tympanum, the iconic statue of Saint Jeremy and the Year 1100 cloister with its 7- capitals, most of them historied. All of those are masterpieces fo Romanesque art and known worldwide.

The abbey was on the very first list of Historic Landmarks in 1840. It is an absolute must-see for all people interested in the Middle Ages, and we will devote quite a few days to its visit.

This photograph of the nave tells you all about why I will not be showing any more of it: the western part that you see here, together with the magnificent top room above the narthex (which I will show in great detail!), are the only Romanesque parts that remain.

The rest has been redone during the Gothic period and later (check the groin vaulting), and the whole monument is covered in that ugly and cheap painted motif so typical of the 19th century that it makes one want to cry. I will inflict no more of that on you, I promise!

Dedicated to Taya, for the sweet testimonial she wrote me. It gives me hope to even know that people on flickr still do things like writing testimonials (it also reminds me I need to write a bunch of those for people yikes).

Taya, what can I say? It is such an honor for someone who has made such an impact on ME to tell me that I've made an impact on THEM. You inspire me in so many ways. Your positivity and obvious love for others is evidence of the One who abides in you. Not to mention you are an incredible artist and writer. You are the type of person I look at and can see they are truly not wasting their life.

Thank you so much for your kind words :) It really does mean a lot and it made my day. I hope we will get to know each other better :)

Dedicated to @renatomarozzi, my father and brilliant general fighter pilot, who flew away to save us.

I am a great animal lover. But can never seem to get a good shot of any animals.

I am always in awe of those of you that get good shots of animals.

In a garden in Oregon, these two storks were my kind of subject!

Made of bronze they "posed" while I could get out the camera, focus, compose and shoot.

Aria

I profili punteggiati di cipressi

lungo i margini delle colline,

i cambi improvvisi

che si aprono in mutanti prospettive

e si estendono in spazi sempre più grandi

che sembrano moltiplicarsi all’infinito,

sono espressione di un pensiero divino.

In quei momenti il sentimento è profondo,

puoi confonderti con il cielo

e perderti nel vento con la terra.

Allora il respiro è grande

e ti pare di toccare l’aria.

(Rosalba Parrini)

Air

The profiles dotted with cypress trees

along the edges of the hills,

the sudden changes

that open in mutants prospects

and extends in larger spaces

that seem to multiply indefinitely,

are an expression of a divine thought.

In those moments the feeling is deep,

can confuse yourself with the sky

and lose yourself in the wind with the earth.

Then the breath is great

and you seem to touch the air.
