It' hard to declutter when you need to keep all of the mark making tools. The stamping around the edge of the right page was done with an old rubber break pedal cover that I found in the barn yard.

All the craft supplies things I'm getting rid of.

Top row: fake flowers and feather boa -> dress ups box; embroidery threads and fabrics -> rest of my threads and fabrics; a stack of CDs to be made into coasters -> cases and labels removed; tulle ->appropriate fabric box.

Bottom row: cardboard tubes -> kinder; tapestry canvas -> eBay; shoulder pads -> bin!; bag of rubbish (old cross stitch patterns and instructions, 45 cards of left over cottons from old projects, etc) -> recycling and bin; cross stitch kit -> eBay.

Husband and I get massages every other week, our health insurance covers it (yay!) When husband is in with the therapist I walk over to the salvation army to have a looksy. Since the beginning of my whole declutter process I have been so picky. This time I took a few pictures, mainly because I had slacked all weekend and had not taken any at all, my own personal rules to the 365 stated that you may take make-up pictures the next day for a missed day. If I did not have this rule I would have had to stop the 2nd of January. The point to the 365 is to take your camera out, to be on the look out for interesting things at all times (makes the world a lot more wonderful), to use new settings on your camera and experiment, to study a subject and learn things from it's angles and shapes... this is what I am learning so far. It is nice.

We'd be lost without them.

Covering this shallow pantry with matching doors saves the storage and declutters the kitchen.

I removed everything from my desk. With the Hackintosh, I want to start anew.

There were so many cables - I didn't even know I had these! My desk from now on will be clutter free.

Before we all had a GPS on our cell phones we had to use paper maps. I took a picture of the old maps I found in a file and then tossed them in the trash. I can't imagine trying to drive around Virginia using a paper map these days.

Contemporary, also known as modern styles are famous for its simplicity, due to the mixture of upholstered panels with wood tones infusing minimalism and simplicity. Casual styles feature intricate details with textured elements such as leather. This style highlights comfort and relaxation, thus being large in scale.

Country-furniture style merges unsophisticated charm and more formal traditional designs, making them distinct for infusing comfort, coziness, and relaxation. Country-style furnishings are mostly made of wood with light to medium finishes, which are familiar, grainy, distressed, or painted.

I'm still not over trying to declutter my room, hence, another photo of home improvement. The fruits of my labor during the last weekend - a semi-organized Photography nook on top of my CD collection.

I don't do new years resolution, but few years ago I read about choosing a word to guide one through the year and I liked that idea. For the last few months of the 2012 I was attempting to declutter my house and to simplify my life. It is a slow process and I wanted to keep on going with it this year. Therefore my word for 2013 is Simplicity and during my holiday in Cape Town I discovered a perfect quote for it.

From innumerable complexities we must grow to simplicity; we must become simple in our inward life and in our outward needs.

Jiddu Krishnamurti, Education and the Significance of Life

it's declutter time. i have so much stuff i've kept over the years that i just don't use/appreciate and i would love it if she found a good home. from 2007, mostly stayed in her original box. with some outfits and shoes. flickr mail me if you're interested!

Trying to take part in the Simple Mom challenge to clean up and declutter one hot spot each week. I am behind, as always, and am just getting to this today...a week late. Duh! Anyway, at least I'm starting somewhere. I hope to have the after picture up and posted by mid week.

Prospective color scheme:

Blue, yellow, soft pink and wood accents

To do:

*Declutter

*Set up sewing machine & crafting area

*Make new yellow curtains

*Make yellow pillows or make a cover the green one in yellow fabric.

*Bring plant back to life/repot (ha!)

*Hang mirror and art

*Buy a rug? [not sure since I will be crafting in this area and it can get messy}

*Bar stools

*Fabric on the short wall under the bar

Day 26 of my 30 Day challenge, and today I finally Dealt with a task that I've been ignoring for over a month: replacing the broken toilet seat in my guest bathroom. Because in order to replace the seat, I had to clean around the toilet, and if I was cleaning around the toilet I might as well clean the entire bathroom, and if I'm cleaning that bathroom I should clean the master bathroom, and mop the kitchen floor while I have the mop out. . . . But today I finally dragged out all the cleaning supplies and tools, scrubbed the bathrooms from top to bottom, then replaced the broken toilet seat with a nice new one. And since nobody wants to see a picture of a broken toilet seat, here's the new toilet seat in it's nice cover that matches the curtain and towels in the guest bathroom.

14/30 for my photo-a-day in November challenge

Today's photo is definitely illustrative rather than artistic. As part of my attempts to declutter my study, I found a little pile of socks that needed mending. I did the pale ones yesterday, but then discovered that the electric light is not good enough to do navy or black socks. I meant to get around to the remaining socks today, but by the time I remembered about the socks again, the daylight was fading.

But anyway, this is the cutest pair.

This is about as cleaned off and decluttered as it gets. Stack of canvasses to paint, laptop, dressform waiting to be painted, and the ever present container of cleaning supplies. If I leave enough of them around they might start using themselves!

I've wanted a new desk for quite some time, but really can't justify the expense when the table I was using is perfectly good, aside from just not fitting the small computer nook too well. Therefore, Darren and I looked around at what we could use to build a desk, and came up with this; two sheets of plywood fastened to two chunks of fence post with some very long wood screws leftover from an older project. We set it on two old nightstands. We keep thinking of ways to improve on the design, but all of them cost money, so I'll just try this one out for awhile...

Felt a bit better today so a bit more enthusiastic about finding bits to declutter.

Found a bit more today as we took down the Christmas decorations and I managed to have a sort out.

From top left:

Box of toiletries from under the bathroom sink. There’s cotton wool, a new talcum powder, cotton buds, that type of thing. Gave these to a friend for a homeless shelter.

A bag of unwanted Christmas decorations. Had some of these for years and don’t want them any more. Put these in the charity bag.

An electric back massager. Had this quite a few years ago, used it about 3 times, then it was stored away. Unfortunately during the storage the plug for it managed to get lost so it’s no good now. Have to put this in the bin because I don’t know if it would work even if I had a plug because it’s been unused for so long.

2 empty sweet tins, ashamed to say that we ate all these in 2 weeks over Christmas! I don’t need any more empty tins lying around the house and can’t think of any use for them, so I’ll offer them on Freecycle.

2 books that I won’t read. Going to the charity shop.

Christmas TV guide – put in paper recycling

5 pairs of earrings that I bought in Claire’s Accessories’ sale. I won’t use them so I’ll give them to the charity shop.

A shot glass with ‘Helen’ on it. I got this because I thought it would be a good idea for my daughter, but I don’t think she’d use it. Back to the charity shop it goes.

An out of date pack of rice cakes. Can’t think why I bought these in the first place, I don’t really like them and they had got lost at the back of a cupboard. I put them out on the lawn for the birds.

A pile of DVDs that we’ve finished with. In the charity shop bag.

A few more things gone today, and far more than 10 items because things like the DVDs, earrings, books, toiletries and Christmas decs I've only counted as 1 item each.

Various random old floppies, including a Logitech mouse driver for DOS and Windows.

The tapes are from my ZX81 and Acorn Electron days, including some of my own creations.

All gone to be crushed and buried or burnt as my local council waste disposal service at Grunty Fen see fit.
