This is a cool place in San Francisco with a beautiful backyard garden that the agent wanted showcased as much as possible. I know this is a bit crazy wide, all the way out at 17mm, and it leaves quite a lot of open space in the middle. So what was I thinking? I wanted to show the garden from this angle, and wanted to showcase that wall of windows and those French doors. I pushed the dining room table off to the right (it's on that carpet there) to declutter a bit.
Lighting:
An umbrella over at my far right illuminating the sectional and the area with the fireplace. One OC flash straight up giving me some good foreground light. I was also holding one light way up over my head which I think I had zoomed in on that fireplace, but can't remember for sure now. I've been doing that more and more to throw some needed light into dark corners, and it's working well for me in general.
So I don't really know much of anything about sergers. But now I have one, thanks to the desire to declutter that a fellow non-sewing crafty friend had as she came across this serger sitting in the back of her closet for several years had. She'd talked to me a couple of years about sergers and I'd talked about how I thought it would be easier to do linings on a serger but I wasn't sure that I wanted to invest in one. She said "I've got one I'm not using. I'll look for it and give you a call." And she did when she finally came across it yesterday. So it's used, but it's only been used a few times and it hasn't been used in years. So a nice cleaning and maybe an oiling and a test run on scrap fabric. But I'm excited. I think this will make working with ripstop easier so I may actually be able to turn some of the ripstop I purchased into reusable shopping totes like I planned. And after looking at a quilt recently on MovingHands Flickr stream with seams exposed, I've got an idea for the flap of a messenger bag that I think will be easier to make with a serger. Now if only I had time to sit down and play with it for a week to really get to know it.

My house is a state. Too much stuff, too much junk, too many hoarders and not enough space. Today the decluttering books I'd ordered from Amazon arrived. Unfortunately, despite having had the books in the house all day it's no less full of stuff. Hmm.

Quick project to build a second hanging bookshelf for my office, which will allow me to declutter considerably.
Time to hang it.

I brought a few 'blooms' back from my late mothers garden, (she died last April)....she'd always have a vase of Camellias in the house as soon as they started flowering...
we are in the process of clearing and selling her house....and within the next month or two....what was a family home for over 60 years and a hub for all the family will be gone...so...emotional times ahead...but nice to know a young family will be making it their home soon.
This process has taught us all a lesson...declutter your homes and your lives now!! It's amazing how much 'stuff' a person accumulates over the years!!
I've already started!!

I choose to photograph this one because of the lady's unusual hairstyle and the name of the photography studio - Chic Photo Co.
About 25 years ago, the photographs were left to my parents in a Will by their next door neighbour of 30 years. At the time I said I'd look after them. Decluttering the attic I found the box with them all in. Many of them were taken in Norwich photography studios. I'm trying to date them as there's not much information on them. I guess they must be late 19C. They are not being added to the declutter pile. I'll carry on looking after them.
I had forgotten I bought this a few years back at a dollar store until now, when I was trying to declutter a bit at home.

Clearing the ballast. 372 CD's cleared from the shelves; we sold them within two hours of listing them on Craigslist! Yay! Less is more!
i have heaps of icons on my desktop so sometimes when i write, i need a super blank page inc. the background.
so i just create a new empty folder, and let it fill the screen, like a backdrop or curtain. whew! no more clutter to distract me.
2000 words to go, ouch.

101 Steps to a Simpler Life
That seems like too many steps.
But I got the "sort your items into piles" part down.
A photo documenting one of my attempts to declutter The Room of Doom™ is included in this Goedecker's article on simplifying and going minimalist.
Remember when "minimalism" was a trendy thing? Yeah, my decluttering photos were insanely popular around that time.

I just love these boxes and I want more of them. Most of the boxes I have are transparent, which is very handy. But I would love to get some of those green and purple ones, too. And those semi-transparent orange and pink ones!
I have not forgotten about FlyLady. Previous Beginner BabySteps have been a bit tricky. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do and I haven't had time to figure that out.
Day 22 - Where's your Control Journal?
I've been waiting for further instructions to go on with it, but maybe I should've followed these instructions by myself?
Day 23 - Set your Afternoon Routine
Not sure what I'm expected to do in the afternoons. The truth is I get to do many of the morning routines in the afternoon, when my hubby gets home. I may have to adapt all these routines to fit our family better when I'm done with the BabySteps and have a bigger picture of this whole FlyLady thing.
PS. This photo was taken in a shop a couple of days ago.
After this weekend of fun, we sadly took apart and took down all our Lego as we clean/declutter our condo to put on the market.

I'm really happy with my new tee vee storage stand solution. And it's one less IKEA thing in my home now.
Now to replace and declutter my bookshelf and fix the cords under the sideboard
Work, work, work and not a moment to pitch, file or keep things under control. Today I will clean and declutter this mess.

It's day 27 of my 30 Day challenge, only 3 days left! Today I Dealt with a kitchen cabinet that had gotten so jumbled I couldn't even fit the replacement groceries in. So I emptied the cabinet out, Dumped a few things with scary expiration dates that were buried at the back, then re-organized and re-loaded the cabinet. After wiping up some mystery sauce overflows and adjusting the placement of the middle shelf. Now I can actually see, find, and (most importantly) reach everything that I use on a regular basis.
Part of our business when we photograph homes is to declutter. Compare this cluttered image with the next one.

Let’s face it. Giving your home good, thorough cleaning takes time and effort. You could easily spend an entire day trying your best to clean your home and still have leftover tasks to complete. One of the best ways to make cleaning a more manageable chore is to stay on top of it throughout the week instead of dedicating one specific day for a thorough cleaning. This way, your home’s cleanliness will be constantly under control. Consequently, deep-cleaning days will be a thing of the past as you will have established a more streamlined system that keeps your home spotless over time. Brisbane Driveway Washing encourages its customers to be proactive about cleaning both their indoor and outdoor spaces. As such, we offer the following tips to help you maintain control of your cleaning routine, making cleaning a much faster and more pleasurable chore.
1. Stock Up on Cleaning Supplies
If you are currently evaluating your cleaning techniques, chances are that you may be lacking in some cleaning supplies. Carefully inventory your home for the kind of cleaning that you plan on completing and consider what products would work best for your home’s needs. Be prepared to purchase a full arsenal of sprays, wipes, scrubbers, and sponges in order to properly treat every floor and surface of your home. When you have a complete inventory of cleaning tools at your disposal, you will be more likely to take care of cleaning tasks sooner rather than later.
2. Keep Supplies Within Reach
Once you have obtained all of your cleaning supplies, make sure that you have a space to store them properly throughout your home. Although many people rely on the space under the kitchen or bathroom sink for all of their cleaning tools, think about the different rooms in your home and their specific uses and needs. If you know, for instance, that your kids are prone to making a mess in the living room, keep a mini vacuum and some cleaning wipes in storage baskets nearby. This way, addressing spot cleaning will be much easier and accessible.
3. Always Tidy Up
One important philosophy to maintain when trying to keep your home clean is to always tidy up before leaving a space. When you fail to clean up after using a space, it’s very easy to get into a habit that allows for cleaning tasks to pile up and seem insurmountable. If you’re finishing up working in the office, organize your papers and materials to put closure to that activity. If you’re preparing food in the kitchen, make an effort to clean as you cook, and complete a more thorough cleaning after preparing each meal.
4. Spot Clean Heavily Trafficked Areas
When you evaluate your home, certain places tend to be used more frequently than others. Consider the places where you spend the most time or that are most prone to cleaning and target those areas specifically. When you make an effort to clean the heavily trafficked parts of your home routinely, your home’s cleanliness will seem much more balanced throughout the week.
5. One Cleaning Assignment Per Day
Instead of waiting until one specific day to take care of more intensive deep-cleaning tasks, distribute your chores throughout the week. For instance, you can dedicate one evening for vacuuming, one evening for mopping, one for scrubbing bathrooms, one for laundry, etc. When you distribute time-consuming cleaning chores throughout the week, you will actually work harder on your specific, dedicated task. Furthermore, you will not lose an entire weekday by trying to complete every task during a long cleaning marathon.
6. Set a Timer
Sometimes, all that it takes to get motivated to clean is a time limit. Give yourself 15 minutes to complete a specific cleaning task, put on some music you enjoy, and race against the clock to finish your objective. When you work in short bursts, using time as a motivator, you can get a significant amount of work finished. As a result, you will be proud of how much you have accomplished and immediately see the results of a cleaner space.
7. Keep Messes Concentrated
Whenever you are working on a messy task like cooking in the kitchen or allowing the kids to work on arts and crafts, try your best to keep your messes concentrated. For instance, instead of spreading yourself out and using every available counter in the kitchen, try to limit yourself to one area. Don’t forget to clean up after yourself as you work and to put things away when they are no longer needed. When you restrict how much space you can use to complete a task, you will have much less surface area to clean afterward. You will also be more likely to clean up while you work instead of dealing with a huge mess at the end.
8. Routinely Declutter Your Home
Whether it’s once per week, once per month, or once per season, take the time to routinely rid your home of clutter. If it’s your first time decluttering, ask yourself if you have used specific items in your home that have piled up within the last year. If you have not used those items, give yourself a month to see if they have a purpose. If not, get rid of them. Once you complete a larger decluttering, you can then use smaller increments of time to evaluate whether or not the items taking space in your home are worth keeping. When you routinely declutter, you free up valuable space in your home for both storage and your most valued possessions. It may be hard to part with some items from the past. However, when you think of the number of personal belongings that you own that you do not use or that simply take up too much space, decluttering becomes a valuable task for cleaning and organization.
9. Keep Kitchen Sink Empty
One nasty habit that can lead to other cleaning tasks piling up is leaving items in the kitchen sink to be washed later. Think of the kitchen sink as a metaphor for how you approach other cleaning tasks within your home. When you only have a glass or a few dishes to wash, the task becomes relatively simple. However, if you let all of the plates, dishes, and utensils pile up in the sink, even reaching in to get started becomes an arduous venture. Using this approach as an analogy for the rest of your home will keep you motivated to take care of cleaning up messes as soon as they happen instead of procrastinating and making the cleaning task more difficult.
10. Recruit Help
Whether you live with family members, roommates, or alone, there are always ways to recruit the help of others in order to give your home the deep cleaning it deserves. With family or roommates, you can easily delegate tasks and assign weekly chores and responsibilities to make keeping your home clean easier. If you live alone, you may need to do some bribing with pizza and drinks to recruit some friends to help you out. Worst case scenario, you can even pay for a cleaning service to come in that will take care of all of your cleaning tasks for you. While this may come at an increased price point, afterward you may be more motivated to keep your home clean over time on your own.

My friend Cécile sent me some Kinder Eggs, since they are apparently illegal in the USA. She is so COOL!
If you want to see more, check out the set I use to declutter my photostream. Samples in the comments below.
Having a major declutter and clear out today and came across lots of these lovely (!!) things. (which my hubby used when building his studio)
I hate them and they are so so sharp but basically sum up my day of finding them in every storage box, every bag, every draw and having to watch my step everytime I wanted to move.
Still I think they made a fab photo using my little compact digital camera and no use of Picnik!
Love how it fades from dark grey at the top to the white at the bottom!
