In this day and age, redwood decks are becoming increasingly popular among the majority of home owners. They add value to the property and also add to the decor. In addition to this, they provide a nice area for home owners to enjoy the outdoors. As a matter of fact, studies show that owners can recover up to 100 percent or more of the initial investment made on an outdoor deck when they put their house up for sale on the market.
This is a deck that overlooks the reception area. Behind us is the path that leads towards the cabins. There is also a 12 person jacuzzi behind us, and to the right up a hill is the kitchen.

I discussed this long-ago replaced deck a few photos ago.
It isn't Genuine Mahogany (at least I don't think it is) and though my species identification skills aren't quite up to snuff - whatever they used, they did a beautiful job shaping and installing them. I also thank them for recycling the original king plank and coaming.
Still.... I hope to replace this deck with the real deal - this one is just a tad off. Both deck coamings on our first Willits were replaced with new (the originals were cracked), and they look phenomenal. So a book-matched replacement deck will be possible, and worth the effort.

The original deck was approximately 12'x12' (24 sq ft) and built when the house was constructed. It lacked character and had limited space for entertaining. For those hot summer days the owners installed a 24' pool and wanted a deck that would maximize their backyard, provide ample amount of space for entertaining, and be low maintenance. We proposed the following design. A bi-level deck finished with a composite material (TrexTR) that would look great and address their needs for entertaining, storage, and low maintenance. The upper level deck is approx 15'x 15 and the lower platform 30'x15' for a total of 675 sq ft. The two staircases provide easy access to and from the yard. The gates are self closing and there are two removable access panels below the deck, one on each side, for easy access to storage.
