Taken out in the sticks in South Staffordshire, these Midland Red 'deckers' seemed to be over-kill on this rural service, but they were allocated on the service as part of a wider schedule.
From memory, the 888 route terminated at Brantley Lane in the village of Bobbington before returning to Wolverhampton. The bus is pictured on the triangle in front of what was then the Royal Oak public house. The Royal Oak used to a be popular destination for many families, especially on summer evenings were the children could play outside. Today, the former pub still stands but is a private residence.

A long lived Midland Red DD13 Daimler Fleetline was 6190. A Leicester based bus for most of its life, 6190 had passed to Midland Red East in 1981, when the company was broken into four separate operating companies.
The vehicle dated from 1969, and is pictured in Leicester working with Midland Red (East) Ltd (by then T/A Midland Fox). The bus was finally withdrawn in January 1985.

6600 (NOC600R). A 1976, ex WMPTE Park Royal bodied Fleetline that is privately owned and remains in active preservation.
4041 (XON41J). Another ex WMPTE Park Royal bodied Fleetline this one from 1971 and belonging to the 'Aston Manor Road Transport Museum' at Aldridge. This vehicle remains in preservation but had been off the road for a few years.
6986 (WDA986T). An ex WMPTE, MCW bodied Fleetline from 1979 that has since been sold out of preservation. The last heard, it was exported to France for use as a mobile or static home. This is a similar fate that befell another former preserved West Mildands PTE, Fleetline 4133 (YOX133K) a few years prior.
6225 (UHA225G). A 1969 built, Midland Red DD13, Alexander bodied Fleetline that never operated for WMPTE, but was painted into PTE colours to represent the type in service with WMPTE. The bus has since been repainted back into Midland Red colours and remains active on the preservation scene.

Why not another DD X26 pic? You can't have too many when 1 decker is a lot! :P And yes, I rode it from West Croydon to Heathrow and all the way back. And it's second time I've done it with X26 in my life xD I have no limits :))

It's a beautiful day indeed! DD on X26, my big dream, finally done! No subbing, no standing up, if only TfL didn't hate the route… No wonder we don't have many expresses in London.

A double decker is relatively unusual on route X26 but probably appreciated. ADL Enviro 40D, fleet number DD13, is seen here approaching East Croydon.
An old shot I took off the X26, and haven't realised for a while such a goodie has been sitting in my storage. A phone shot, no less! And better than the shot of this bus I actually uploaded on the day!

On our return to Newark bus station, we found Gash's latest double-decker, DD13 (TWH 811K) about to depart for Nottingham, so a group of us decided to jump on board the Bolton-ordered PDR2 Atlantean, and travel back to Nottingham on it. Sorry, but my shot of it in Newark is too awful to show - it really was dark !
So Chris drove SBA 448R over to Broadmarsh to await our arrival, and our changeover gave me a brief moment to finish off the film with this shot of another of the area's famous names, South Notts. Leyland-engined Fleetline 99 ran for them for nearly 20 years, until the sale to Nottingham CT, and then enjoyed a period of semi-retirement with Verwood Transport in Dorset. But this shot is more about the atmosphere of a dismal and freezing cold Broadmarsh bus station, a place where you wanted to spend as little time as possible, even for people like us !
And so ended the day ....

Brickadia Fire Rescue has placed this 2020 Pierce Enforcer tandem-axle rescue in service as US&R 36! This is the department’s first ever urban search and rescue apparatus and will greatly enhance their technical rescue capabilities. Since US&R 36 is only staffed by an engineer and a captain (with additional personnel from other companies), the committee decided to install a command center in lieu of where the crew would usually sit. Due to several freeways and major roads, this apparatus was designed to respond to most, if not all, motor vehicle accidents with trapped parties. As part of CA-RTF4, Brickadia can supply a rescue team and equipment that specializes in collapse, high angle, low angle, and trench rescues.

Shiny DD13 is seen resting in the afternoon sunshine at Kingston, Cromwell Road Bus Station showing off its new ultimate destination side blind whilst working on Route 418.
Former SELNEC / GMPTE Leyland Atlantean TWH811K was one of the few examples from the batch of 15 buses (6802-6816), to escape the cutter's torch after withdrawal in April 1984. Happily for 6811, the 13-year old bus found further use with W. Gash & Son of Newark, Notts, a long established independent bus operator.
Numbered DD13 by Gash, the bus was brought into help modernise the fleet, which still had a couple of 1940s Daimler CV buses on strength.
Following Deregulation in 1986, W. Gash did not fair well in the competitive market it found itself in, but fought its corner. In 1988, The Lincolnshire Road Car Company (LRCC) acquired the struggling Gash business, initially allowing the company to operate as a separate entity.
In 1989, the LRCC merged the two companies, but vehicle inspectors from the Ministry of Transport found the former Gash fleet to be mechanically deficient. A public inquiry followed, resulting in the Traffic Commissioner stripping Gash of its operating license. DD13 did not survive the vehicle cull that followed and was scrapped in 1990.
