Running around town is difficult this time of year. We have the biggest outlet mall for miles around so we see a lot of the crowds during the weekend. But pausing for a moment allowed me to snap a pic of the hazy afternoon today. Was spectacular to look at.

The Nikon J1 with the kit 10-30mm lens was used for this. I forgot my polarizer back home, bad Regie!, so I made due with what I can shoot. It came out decent I suppose.

my interview this morning went reasonably well, i think. now i'm cozying down with some tea & looking for alaska.

day fifty-two.

I love the Green Bay Packers, and I love Coke. Well I love Coke with whiskey anyway. I saw a six-pack of these in a grocery store the other day, and I had to buy some. This is one of those things you keep in a box in the garage for years and years, hoping to someday take out and tell your kids a story about when the greatest pro-football team in America won the super bowl.

I seriously amuse myself...

One would think that when one wears a paper bag over ones head to take pictures, one would not need to emote underneath said bag...but I couldn't help it. Every click of the camera I was making some face, and ten clicks in, I'm like, what are you doing? No one will see your face. Dee dee dee!

Anyway, I shop at Kroger grocery and at checkout the bag boys always ask do I want paper or plastic. Since plastic is all toxic and what not to landfills and you can't really recycle it, I always ask for paper. They give me sh*t every time too. But ma'am, why do you want paper? You know we bag much faster with plastic? Do you really really want paper? I'm like seriously...why do you even give an option if you're just going to make a fuss. You know why I want paper....do you want to know...so I can do stupid sh*t like this picture!!! Priceless. I am also an avid recycler, so I use these bags to sort my recyclables and then take them to the can b/c they don't allow plastic bags thank-you very much. Another fun picture. One would say I'm "on fire" this week with ideas.

Side note: I have a giant band-aid on my arm not because I have a cut but because I got bit by those infamous red Texas fire ants and it is driving me crazy, so I put this aloe vera formula on it called Itch-x and covered it with the band-aid so I wouldn't be tempted to scratch it.

Last night for the life of me, I couldn't sleep. So I went on Yahoo! messenger, caught up with my very best FLICKR friend, and distracted Mike from work. Now fast forward into today, I feel rundown, runny nose, sleepy and all those wonderful feelings you have when your sick. Now go backwards in time, on Day018 I felt sick too. Just like I do right now. Now fast forward again, I haven't felt 100% better since then.

WORST PART: I can no longer miss school. You are only allowed to miss ten days a trimester I've missed fifteen. Also, the 1st and 2nd of March are finals so I can't miss those either.

This can end anytime now!

This is me cleaning out my cupboards. Who knew that when you don't use your fancy vinegar you got in Spain this is what grows out of it. Lesson learned. Don't save your vinegar for a rainy day. Enjoy it now.

Day 52 of 365 (Year Three)

I was out and about today running errands and grocery shopping. We were running low on certain items and I really needed new wiper blades. I had totally forgotten that they have been calling for actual snow in our area tomorrow. I've posted and blogged about winter in Maryland before and how it effects most Marylanders.

While the folks out today didn't seem as panic driven as usual, they certainly were buying in large quantities. The guy in line in front of me bought eight gallons of milk (Unless you are the serial mom, Nadya Suleman, I can't imagine anyone needing eight gallons of milk. Hell, I have a hard time imagining the fridge that can hold eight gallons of milk.

He wasn't the only nut job out there today. The guy behind me in line had six loaves of bread along with six gallons of milk. Really? Six loaves? If I bought six loaves of bread I'd end up throwing four out when they went bad. Bread doesn't have the best shelf life. We make sandwiches and Savanah takes a Sandwich to school almost every day of the week and it still takes us a week or two to finish off two loaves.

Of course, even with the guy in line behind me over buying bread, I totally forgot we needed some. It wasn't until I was looking for a snack this evening that I realized how low on bread we were. Hopefully, I'll be able to find some on the shelves tomorrow. If I wake up and there are flurries in the morning, my chances are slim to none as the real panic will have set in and bread, milk and toilet paper will be scarce commodities because, lord knows, when we get flurries you need to stock up on all the supplies you can.

Garlic is widely used around the world for its pungent flavor as a seasoning or condiment. Hippocrates, Galen, Pliny the Elder, and Dioscorides all mention the use of garlic for many conditions, including parasites, respiratory problems, poor digestion, and low energy. GP loves to cook with garlic.

I broke out my spring shoes today. I figured it's finally warm enough to wear thin shoes... a week or so ago I would have frozen off my toes if I attempted to wear anything like these without socks. Today was a pretty bland day. It ended nicely with a dinner and a movie with the Boy... The movie wasn't so great, but I had fun taking pictures before it started.

I didn't take that many pictures today compared to what I normally take, so this is all I've got today. After I get out of work tomorrow I need to somehow find a way to stay awake, because let me tell you, knocking out for 4 hours after getting home from work today proved to be an unmotivating event... and somehow, it won't stop me from going to bed on time tonight... sooo... good night!

Carnival in Brazil is huge. It happens on the streets all over the country with different beats and shakes, and it is also popular in Athletic clubs where we take the kids for the matinees, and at night, we have the adults carnival parties.

95% of Asians develop lactose intolerance in their lifetimes. This is result of reduced expression of the gene responsible for production of the enzyme lactase, which breaks down lactose in milk. The consequence? Gut bacterial flora metabolize the lactose and produce superfluous quantities of methane and hydrogen gas…making you all kinds of explosive, like the Hindenburg. Fortunately, I've been genetically spared in this regard.*

Day 52 post-surgery. The extraction of the middle third of my patellar tendon graft involved excising approximately 1 x 0.6 x 2.25 cm (wide x deep x long) "plugs" of bone out of my patella and tibia to produce a graft of about 9 cm long (bone plugs flanking ~4.5 cm of tendon). Then, to reconstruct my ACL they drilled an ~1 cm diameter tunnel through my tibia and femur through which these bone plugs were threaded and secured with screws. I need my body to fix that shit…and grow half an inch taller, so I can really be 5'7" and not just round up.

And thus, in the last seven point five weeks I've doubled down on my milk consumption and consumed 6.5 gallons of milk (2%, ~1 pint/day).

Bone measurements were acquired from analyses of my post-operative X-rays. Now go drink some milk and strengthen your bones. Don't overdo it on the vitamin D though, it's fat soluble.

*I just drank a quart of milk trying to make a milk mustache (obviously 2% is not viscous enough and I need heavy cream). We'll see just how well my lactase levels hold up against this barrage of lactose....

Day 52 of 2015. I spent the evening celebrating with my friend, Mike Swaine, who just published the third edition of Fire in the Valley, his classic book with Paul Freiberger on the history of the personal computer. Carol Espinosa brought an old-school Polaroid camera and exactly five pieces of film, which she wanted to use to capture the authors and some of the luminaries who were there, including Ted Nelson, Lee Felsenstein, and John Perry Barlow. Which person in her photos does not belong?!

It's been a lifetime since I worked in tech, but they were formative years. I was blessed to be part of Mike's professional family back then and to get to be around so many good people who also happened to be pioneers in this amazing field. My chosen career path is connected to this past, but it also feels very different. Sometimes, I miss my past life and wonder what might have been had I stuck around.

Robyn and Rainbow are happy with how my son's long house looks.

Robyn: I think it looks great, we did a good job.

Rainbow: Yes we did...will you go on a date with me?...

We made a quick ramen dinner tonight at home with some North Carolina pink shrimp that we had in the freezer and the rest of the Chinese greens from hot pot this past weekend. The shrimp were shell-on so we cooked the shells to create a light shrimp stock which we mixed with the sauce packet for extra broth flavor.

Yum! Perfect for this bitterly windy day.

Busker: Found downtown north or as the locals call it, Port Arthur. I was driving by and pulled over immediately. Shirtless, cutoffs, shoe-less even, playing a violin. Not a common sight around here. He has traveled from Ottawa in search of old friends. He also told me I could see more buskers in front of Calico's on Bay Street in the evening and the reason we don't see many buskers is lack of foot traffic. He is so right. The Downtown isn't what it used to be.

I got tagged for another round (8 things this time) by Chimphappyhour. He is always such a good sport:)

1) I always get down and dumpy during the cold months. This has been a really long winter.

2) Sometimes my loved ones are the only people in the world that I want to speak to or be around.

3) I believe that everything we do is a choice, even doing nothing at all. I tell my kids that we cannot control what happens to us, but we can certainly decide how we will allow things to affect us.

4) I wish I had more faith, not religion but faith- in others, in myself, in life.

5) I am easily amused but rarely satisfied. I have yet to do my best at anything.

6) CYA. This means cover your (own) ass. I always have a plan, even if I know it may( and quite likely will) be changed. The last time I have trusted others to bail me out of trouble was sometime during childhood.

7) I have worked hard for everything I have and everything that I am. I will never forget the road that has led here.

8) I do not take myself too seriously. I think others sometimes mistake this as goofing off, not focusing, silliness, or dumbness. I am actually quite the opposite when there is a task at hand and I know what is to be done.

The second torchbearer we saw today at Blenhaim Palace was Patricia Pearce MBE, 67, from Great Missenden.

"Non so dove i gabbiani abbiano il nido,

ove trovino pace.

Io son come loro

in perpetuo volo.

La vita la sfioro

com'essi l'acqua ad acciuffare il cibo.

E come forse anch'essi amo la quiete,

la gran quiete marina,

ma il mio destino è vivere

balenando in burrasca."

All three dog parks were booked solid for today - yikes! Except for one hour - 8-9 in dog park no. 1. Because it's early, and cold. Well, we don't care. 8-9 it was. Warmth is for sissies!

Seriously running out of ideas here. This is a little bear i bought years ago and paid $10.00 for. What a frivolous purchase but at the time ,I just had to have it.

Friday night beer. Icelandic Gull (e. Gold), not my favorite at all but hey, I wasn't the one drinking it.

I've decided to scrapbook my 365 photo project using the Project Life kit. I really like the design and I think it will keep me more accountable to taking a daily photo. Looking forward to being able to flip through actual prints of our days, too.

I pass under this bridge nearly every day on the way to work and I've wanted to figure out a good way to photograph it pretty much since I started this project.

This is how it this Sunday evening feels, Lots of work to be getting on with, but a glass of wine was calling!

at ease gentlemen...'tis the season, let the insanity begin...

On a different note, between work, house projects and side projects, I have gotten to realize that there isn't enough hours in one day....that sucks !!!

My mom's 76th birthday, marked by flowers and cards and more flowers, visitors, and a big family dinner at a Greek restaurant that evening. For the first time in 23 years, I was present for my mom's birthday. So wonderful!

This is the second drawing of Carole Ann, an artist at Sktchy. I tried something new to create the essence of sunglasses but still being able to see her eyes...gouache, inks and watercolors on an index card. Almost to the end of this challenge...Day52/61 ICAD2017

A bit tired. Worked my butt off at work and have to get up at 3am and do it all over again. Night world!

MY little man was not only wearing blue but feeling a bit blue as well.

Transparent cloak, solid green dress.

This is one of my favorite dresses. I picked up at a thrift store years ago.

The white cloak is actually what was used as a my wedding veil and train.

(Cloak was made by my husband's aunt. I adore her.)

This was so much fun to play with!

But.. I think I messed up a camera setting. I have a blue aura.

If you know what I did to the camera (or have a theory), please tell me?

Thanks in advance.

(This was my favorite photo among my 365 shots this week.)
