Saint Aidan´s church dates from the late 12th century. The chancel, was added in 1230. According to Bede, St Aidan built a wooden church outside the castle wall, on the site of the current church, in AD 635, and he died here in AD 652. St Aidan had been called to Bamburgh from Iona by King Oswald to establish Christianity in his kingdom of Northumbria.
In 1123 Bamburgh was given to the Augustinian priory at Nowell in Yorkshire by Henry I. The grant was finally confirmed by the pope about a century later, so that the Augustinians could establish a cell of canons here.
The canons remained until the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VII, when they were forced to leave. After the Reformation, St Aidan's became the parish church for the village but its maintenance was neglected. Over the subsequent centuries repairs were undertaken, including significant restorations during the 1800s.
It was quite a surprise to find this machine, an automaton designed by Keith Newstead, in the church.
Food for the gods, aka "damn good date bar." I haven't a clue as to why we Filipinos call it that, but we just do. It's usually wrapped in colorful cellophane and much thicker than what's pictured here.
St Cuthbert Kirkyard, Edinburgh, Scotland
Dates of interest:
1595 - First intimation of a burying ground in Kirk Session minutes - a small hill known as the ‘Knowe’ south of the Church, was used.
It was a lonely spot where the Kirk lay, especially at night. Except for one farm steading "there was neither hoose nor ha’ nor fire nor candlelicht" between it and the villages which stood on the banks of the Water of Leith.
Over a century later, this quiet location was to give scoundrels an opportunity to dig up and steal the bodies of the dead, for which surgeons and anatomists paid very handsomely.
1597 - Stone wall built to keep grazing horses and sheep out.
1701 - Ground added to the west.
1738 - Grave-robbing had become a frequent occurrence. Walls raised to 8 feet (2.5 metres).
1740 - Kirk Session appointed an officer to keep records of the dead. Recorder used a lodge on the site of the present watchtower.
1742 - Several bodies illegally removed. A Beadle was suspected of complicity and a furious mob burned his house. Both Beadles were removed from office.
1789 - North marsh drained to provide further land. Land to the south-west was raised and walled in.
1803 - Regular watch appointed to guard the cemeteries at night to deter grave-robbers.
1827 - Watchtower to south west built. This was done a little late, however, because the long-running practice of body-snatching ceased within the next ten years when the law changed to allow the donation of bodies to medical science.
1831 - Manse to south of Church demolished and garden incorporated into a new burial area.
1834 - Churchyard extended by adding oddly shaped piece of wasteground known as the Glebe.
1841 - In this year and again in 1910, tunnel cut or extended beneath the Churchyard to accommodate the railway line. This involved the loss of stones erected between 1834 and 1841. No graves exist now over the tunnel.
1875 - Burials ceased at St Cuthbert’s, except in exceptional circumstances.Upkeep of the Churchyard became the responsibility of City of Edinburgh District Council.

Knossos (also Cnossos, both pronounced /(kə)ˈnɒsɒs, -səs/; Greek: Κνωσός, Knōsós [knoˈsos]), is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete and has been called Europe's oldest city.[3]
Settled as early as the Neolithic period, the name Knossos survives from ancient Greek references to the major city of Crete. The palace of Knossos eventually became the ceremonial and political centre of the Minoan civilization and culture. The palace was abandoned at some unknown time at the end of the Late Bronze Age, c. 1,380–1,100 BC.[4] The reason why is unknown, but one of the many disasters that befell the palace is generally put forward.
In the First Palace Period (around 2,000 BC), the urban area reached a size of as many as 18,000 people.[5] In its peak, the palace and surrounding city boasted a population of 100,000 people shortly after 1,700 BC. wikipedia

Mariah Carey - We Belong Together
Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1969 or 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. In 1990, she rose to fame with the release of "Vision of Love" from her eponymous debut album. The album produced four chart-topping singles in the US and began what would become a string of commercially successful albums which solidified the singer as Columbia's highest selling act. Carey and Boyz II Men spent a record sixteen weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 in 1995–96 with "One Sweet Day," which remains the longest-running number-one song in US chart history. Following a contentious divorce from Sony Music head Tommy Mottola, Carey adopted a new image and traversed towards hip hop with the release of Butterfly (1997). In 1998, she was honored as the world's best-selling recording artist of the 1990s at the World Music Awards and subsequently named the best-selling female artist of the millennium in 2000.
Carey parted with Columbia in 2000, and signed a record-breaking $100 million recording contract with Virgin Records America. In the weeks prior to the release of her film Glitter and its accompanying soundtrack in 2001, she suffered a physical and emotional breakdown and was hospitalized for severe exhaustion. The project was poorly received and led to a general decline in the singer's career. Carey's recording contract was bought out for $50 million by Virgin and she signed a multi-million dollar deal with Island Records the following year. After a relatively unsuccessful period, she returned to the top of music charts with The Emancipation of Mimi (2005). The album became the best-selling album in the US and the second best-seller worldwide in 2005 and produced "We Belong Together," which became her most successful single of the 2000s, and was later named "Song of the Decade" by Billboard. Carey once again ventured into film with a well-received supporting role in Precious (2009), and was awarded the "Breakthrough Performance Award" at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
