The annually arranged Helsinki Open is a leading Nordic Freestyle Wrestling Tournament with categories ranging from kids to seniors.

Held at URHEA HALL - Mäkelänkatu 47, 00550 Helsinki

Timber framed building in church lane dates back to the late 15c It was originally a schoolroom and master's house. endowed in part from the Holy Trinity church chantry. The Chantry and school were closed as part of the Dissolution in 1547. It was then re-endowed and renamed the King Edward VI Grammar School during his reign (1547-1553). The school finally closed c 1860.

Originally the hall was entered from a door from church lane and another on the east side.

Mid 18c the front and side entrances were sealed with studding and a new entrance constructed in the centre of the building. The upper floor was partitioned to provide 3 further rooms.

In the 19c the building was converted to form 5 tenements. A chimney with a large open copper for heating was constructed in what would have been the three bay hall, and two bays at the eastern end were converted into a coal store and toilet block. The first floor provided most of the new living accommodation and the amenities included a cast iron fire/cooking range in one of the rooms and the insertion of ceilings in all of the principal rooms.

In 1977 the first floor was converted to provide a three bedroom flat complete with bathroom - Ledbury Herefordshire

Mystery Dates 2010 Photos by Meg Pukel and Noelle Theard

When selecting dates, look for plump, evenly colored specimens. All dates have a single long seed, but they can range in shape from oblong to round, depending on the cultivar. The date should not look dry or withered, and no crystals should appear on the exterior of the date. Fresh dates will last for up to two weeks under refrigeration, while preserved dates can last much longer, depending on how they are preserved.

Reception: Saturday, March 11, 5-7pm

Shawn Panepinto is a Boston area artist who recently retired as Director of Operations for The Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard University. She graduated from Ridgewood College of Art in 1972, and graduated from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in 1978. She has taught at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, the Massachusetts Prison Art Program, The Radcliffe Pottery Studio, and was an instructor at the Ceramics Program Office for the Arts at Harvard for nearly 40 years. She was Director of Operations, Acting Director, and Program Coordinator for The Ceramics Program, and Assistant to the Director at The Radcliffe Pottery Studio. She was the recipient of a Radcliffe Exemplary Service Award, and a recipient of the Harvard Deans Distinction Award. Perhaps her most significant achievement was overseeing the Ceramics Program studio’s move from its basement location, and the new construction of its current location at 224 Western Ave in Allston, MA.

Shows and exhibitions include “”Five on Fire” at the Art Complex Museum, “A Class Act” at The Fuller Craft Museum, group show at Buckingham, Brown, and Nichols, co-curation of “The Art of Reuse, Renew, Recycle” at the Cabot Science Library at Harvard, ”Art Encounters Preservation” at Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion in Portsmouth, NH, “Home Team” at Gallery 224, “Selected Works” at Gallery 224, and “The State of Clay: Pushing Boundaries” at The Fuller Craft Museum.

Shawn’s new work in painting, collage and decollage is the evolution of her work in clay, and maintains her playfulness and sensitivity to color, form and rhythm.

Artist Statement

Old Dog. New Tricks.

After working for 40 years at the Harvard Ceramics Program, I wanted to experience the freedom of my newly acquired time in retirement within the smaller space of a home studio. The opportunity to create work for this show provided me with the inspiration to search for and explore new media and new techniques.

Abstraction, color, humor, and texture have always been important in my art. By replacing brushes with my ceramic tools, using a cold wax medium with newly discovered water- soluble oil paints, string, sculpting plaster, thick gesso, wax paper, tissue paper, watercolor and collage paper (printed and hand-painted), it was possible to bring a tactile dimension to my 2-D work. By layering the paint, sanding, scratching, and mark making, I was able to build depth. The result is a visible history of the layers below the surface.

When the pandemic hit, the dates for the show were put on hold. Like so many others during this time, I lost the incentive to work. So when I got a call to discuss possible dates for the show, I was re-energized by the feeling that the show was becoming a reality. My use of collage as an element led me to explore decollage, which involves the tearing away and restructuring of paper elements from collage. Now I could stretch out my ideas even farther. Some of the decollage pieces in this show feature my own ceramic work (some of which is also on display) as well as some items that are personal and some that are universal.

During the process of preparing for this exhibition, I learned to fly blind and trust my intuition and experience. I learned to accept my physical limitations and that any mistake can be turned into a new direction. I became fearless and, most importantly, stopped worrying that a piece had to be perfect.

I hope you enjoy some of these “new tricks” from an “old dog”.

Mariah Carey - Touch My Body

Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1969 or 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. In 1990, she rose to fame with the release of "Vision of Love" from her eponymous debut album. The album produced four chart-topping singles in the US and began what would become a string of commercially successful albums which solidified the singer as Columbia's highest selling act. Carey and Boyz II Men spent a record sixteen weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 in 1995–96 with "One Sweet Day," which remains the longest-running number-one song in US chart history. Following a contentious divorce from Sony Music head Tommy Mottola, Carey adopted a new image and traversed towards hip hop with the release of Butterfly (1997). In 1998, she was honored as the world's best-selling recording artist of the 1990s at the World Music Awards and subsequently named the best-selling female artist of the millennium in 2000.

Carey parted with Columbia in 2000, and signed a record-breaking $100 million recording contract with Virgin Records America. In the weeks prior to the release of her film Glitter and its accompanying soundtrack in 2001, she suffered a physical and emotional breakdown and was hospitalized for severe exhaustion. The project was poorly received and led to a general decline in the singer's career. Carey's recording contract was bought out for $50 million by Virgin and she signed a multi-million dollar deal with Island Records the following year. After a relatively unsuccessful period, she returned to the top of music charts with The Emancipation of Mimi (2005). The album became the best-selling album in the US and the second best-seller worldwide in 2005 and produced "We Belong Together," which became her most successful single of the 2000s, and was later named "Song of the Decade" by Billboard. Carey once again ventured into film with a well-received supporting role in Precious (2009), and was awarded the "Breakthrough Performance Award" at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

St Giles Church: St Giles Church dates back to the 13th century and its impressive tower is renowned as one of the seven wonders of Wales. The Church and graveyard stand close to the High Street, behind a magnificent set of early 18th century wrought iron gates, made at nearby Bersham. Buried in the churchyard is Elihu Yale, whose bequest to an American College led to the foundation of Yale University in the USA.

The inscription on the tomb of Elihu Yale states:

Born in America, in Europe bred,

In Africa travell'd, and in Asia wed.

Where long he liv'd and thriv'd;

In London dead.

However, St Giles has more to offer the visitor to Wrexham than the tomb of Elihu Yale. The external stonework displays a rich and varied collection of medieval stone carvings. Gargoyles and grotesques stare down at passers-by with wide grins and ghoulish grimaces. Not surprisingly after 500 years many of the carvings are looking the worse for wear. Let us hope the cleaner atmosphere (Wrexham was a coal-mining town in days gone by) will slow down the rate of deterioration. Within the church itself, the stone corbels, decorated with armorial shields and a strange mixture of bishops and devils, are as clear-cut as when they were carved in the 16th Century.

Ajwa (عجوة) is a soft dry variety of date fruit from Saudi Arabia. It is cultivated at Madina Monawara.

Ajwa Dates Keep Away Harm, Poison And Magic

A delightfully soft and fruity date with fine texture.

The Messenger (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) said, “Whoever has seven Ajwa dates every morning he will not be harmed on that day by poison or magic.” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (5445) (5768) (5769) (5779)].

The Messenger (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) said, “Ajwa dates are from paradise.” [Tirmidhee (2068) he said hasan Saheeh and it was authenticated by Shaikh al-Albaani].

Referring to eating seven Ajwa dates, the Messenger (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) said, “He will not be harmed by anything until he reaches the evening.” [Saheeh Muslim (2047)].

"I am the worlds biggest idiot."

The earliest known burial in Les Tombeaux Saadiens dates from 1557. All of the main buildings were constructed under Sultan Ahmed el Mansour (1578-1603). The site is contemporary with the Ben Youssef Medersa.

When Moulay Ismail (1672-1727) took over, he systematically destroyed the adjacent Badi Palace but superstition probably kept him from destroying the burial ground. Instead, he sealed up all the entrances to the Saadian Tombs except for an obscure one from the Kasbah Mosque. Nevertheless, a few prominent citizens were buried here after it was sealed up: the last was the "mad sultan" Moulay Yazid in 1792.

The Saadian Tombs lay hidden and mostly forgotten until 1917, when they were discovered during a French aerial survey. The tombs' long neglect has ensured their preservation and they have since been fully restored to their original glory.

The enclosure consists of two main mausoleums, with 66 tombs laid out within them and over 100 more outside in the gardens.

The first mausoleum is the finest of the two and was built to house Mansour's tomb and completed. It features an intricate vaulted roof, Italian carrera marble columns, fine carvings and stunning zellij tiles. El Mansour's tomb is in the domed central chamber, flanked by the tombs of his sons and successors.

The second mausoleum is older and was built by Ahmed el Mansour in place of an existing pavilion over the tombs of his mother and of the founder of the Saadian dynasty, Mohammed ech Sheikh.

Scattered around the gardens are the tombs of over 100 more Saadian princes and members of the royal household. The gravestones are covered in brilliantly colored tiles and most have inscriptions with epitaphs and quotes from the Qur'an.

The church dates from the late 11th and early 12th century, and was rebuilt after a fire in 1137, originally with a crossing c.1180 and nave with aisles of five bays.

At the time, the church was part of a large ministry of the Benedictine order. The complex covered some 7 acres. However, most monastic buildings did not survive the dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century, but the priory church was allowed to continue as a parish church.

In the mid-16th century the church was in disrepair and stones were taken to repair the Ouse bridge and city walls.

The north aisle does not exist today, but the piers are still visible. The south aisle is still extant with 13th century piers. The Eastern arm of the church which was aisled with five bays has completely gone, as have the transepts.

The western Bay of the north aisle contains the St Nicholas Chapel from 1453, the tower was built above this on 13th century footings and is topped with a battlemented parapet.

Major restoration began in 1850 when a new south aisle was built and new chancel and vestry built in 1886.

The church has east and west windows by Kempe, and several monuments and floor slabs from the 18th and 19th-century.

Boqueria Flatiron, located at 53 West 19th Street, was opened in 2006 by owner Yann de Rochefort and chef-partner Seamus Mullen to present the cuisine of Cataluña and other Spanish regions in the form of tapas, media raciones and raciones. Chef Mullen left Boqueria in July 2010.

The church dates from the late 11th century onwards, and was restored in the 19th century. It has a West tower, nave with south aisle, south porch and a rectangular chancel.

The West tower is 11th century, one of the few complete Anglo-Saxon Towers remaining in England.

The north nave wall was rebuilt in the 19th century, the chancel has plain north and south wall and also dates from that time.

The south Arcade is Norman and was extended in the 13th and 14th century. The South porch is 14th century also, although the doorway was restored in the 19th century and has a 20th century door.

The South aisle has a West window of 13th century which was restored in the 19th century.

There are a number of monuments in the church, the largest of these is an effigy of William De Harrington dating from 1346. There is also a stone slab with a figure of the Norman priest called John Gere who died around 1300.

On the North wall of the chancel is a 15th century brass of John Whichcote, High Sheriff of Lincolnshire, in armour, and his wife Elizabeth Tyrwhitt, daughter of John Tyrwhitt.

The cathedral dates from the 12th century and bears witness to all the historical periods of the city. The outstanding façade, divided into three sections, was begun in Romanesque style, still visible in the lower part.

Note the St. George and the scenes from the New Testament above the central door, the work of the sculptor Nicholaus (1135). The upper part was built some decades later in a Gothic style and besides the numerous small arches and the splayed mullioned windows presents an extraordinary Last Judgment by an unknown sculptor over the central loggia.

The side facing Piazza Trento e Trieste is decorated with two galleries and small columns of various shapes.

At ground level is the Loggia of the Merchants, occupied by shops since Medieval times.

Half way along the south side what remains of the Porta dei Mesi, demolished in the 18th century can still be seen; some of its sculptures are conserved in the Cathedral Museum.

The imposing Renaissance campanile, in pink and white marble, is an unfinished work attributed to Leon Battista Alberti.

The brickwork apse, whose sober design is lightly embellished by terracotta arches and marble capitals, is the work of Ferrara’s top architect and town planner, Biagio Rossetti.

wouldn't it be nice if we were older

then we wouldn't have to wait so long

and wouldn't it be nice to live together

in the kind of world where we belong

you know it's gonna make it that much better

when we can say goodnight and stay together

wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up

in the morning when the day is new

and after having spent the day together

hold each other close the whole night through

happy times together we've been spending

i wish that every kiss was never ending

wouldn't it be nice

maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray

it might come true

baby then there wouldn't be a single thing we couldn't do

we could be married

and then we'd be happy

wouldn't it be nice

you know it seems the more we talk about it

it only makes it worse to live without it

but let's talk about it

wouldn't it be nice..
