On Friday, February 7, 2014, high school and middle school students dashed into the icy Atlantic as part of Special Olympics Virginia’s largest fundraiser: The Polar Plunge and the Cool School Challenge.
“Raising one million dollars for the fourth year in a row is incredible,” said Rick Jeffrey, Special Olympics Virginia president. “More importantly, though, these funds will help us to build bigger, better, more inclusive communities across the state of Virginia.”
In addition to the money raised, they got to take the icy dip into the Atlantic, all while earning a Friday “pass” from school, earn community service credit, Costume contests – prizes for best dressed male and female, prizes for teacher or team sponsor, and freezing photos.

You could be forgiven for thinking the blue lines are just on the line of the M25, and the dashed red line is the M4. But on closer inspection, these routes are slightly different and date from much earlier than the construction of the motorways. The North Orbital Road, in this part of the world, was the original 1930s concept of what became today's M25. Here it would've run further west, nearer Slough, before crossing over to head closer to Uxbridge and pick up the route of the A412 north, at Denham. Taken from an undated Geographers' 35 Miles Round London Road Map.
For a clearer idea of the routes being planned around London in the 1930s, see the Outer London Development Survey on SABRE Maps: www.sabre-roads.org.uk/maps/index.php?view=51.58634,-0.23...

A Mother's Day card made by Rita. The dashed background stamp (Artemio) is embossed and can be seen through the butterfly. The butterfly is is a negative stamp and yet Rita managed to get it on the foreground using dark green and Glossy Accents. Not as obvious as it seems at first sight, isn' t? The flower background is made using a ghost technique (ColorBox Frost White on white paper, let this dry, then Direct-to-paper with ColorBox Lime).

Ancestral area reconstruction using the dispersal-extinction-cladogenesis model.Inset map shows the Madagascar and Indian Ocean Islands biodiversity hotspot (dashed line) and the distribution and number of species of Psiadia (negative values indicate recorded extinctions of putative members of the genus). Contours of smaller islands have been enlarged and highlighted for clarity. Branch colors follow the designated geographic areas on the inset map. Bold node numbers indicate differences in optimal resolution between reconstruction using the dec-model and statistical Dispersal-Vicariance analyses. Asterisks highlight nodes for which multiple equally probable solutions were retrieved using Lagrange and/or S-DIVA. Arrows indicate dispersal events between designated regions. Node numbers refer to per-clade results listed in Table S3. Geographic coverage is indicated by capitals following taxon names. Broken branches lead to nodes with low posterior probabilities (<90) obtained in BEAST.

I was out with the dog this evening, when I saw the most beautiful bright red vivid sky so I dashed back home, grabbed my camera and headed out to photograph it.
For the life of me I couldn't think what to stick in front of the sky, I tried to park the pyramid in the shot with the background, but I couldn't get a decent angle, so instead I grabbed this shot of the building. This building is a pyramid in shape and is the HQ for the Co-operative bank, I didn't manage to grab any other shots whilst I was out of any real worth and I'm kind of miffed I missed getting a decent shot of the sunset.
Oh well I guess I should have been more prepared... :)
Triple exposure through my telephoto lens, heavily cooked in photomatix, imported to Lightroom with a strong contrast preset loaded in.
This was a bit of a dashed shot but here is a Mercedes Atego fire pump engine (registration FTP 7) belonging to the Paris Fire Brigade (Sapeurs et Pompiers). It is at Alesia.
Elijah Wood just happened to wander by the line I was camping out in and I snagged a pic with him before he dashed off.

Jules Lunaga Wiki
Jules Lunaga Bio
Who was Jules Lunaga ?
Hopes are dashed for a missing teenager who disappeared while swimming in a river with friends on Christmas Day.
Jules Lunanga, 18, was playing on the Murray River near Albury on Saturday when he got into trouble after being separated from the group.
Local police, paramedics and the State Emergency Service joined the search for the 18-year-old, but he was suspended due to bad light shortly after 20:30.
The search continued through Sunday and Monday, with his devastated family watching from the banks as dive teams investigated the area.
Police and the State Emergency Service continue to patrol the area as friends and family wait for a miracle.
'I can't think of anything, I can't do anything. I'm still in shock, 'Lunaga's friend Moise Nsabimana told Seven.
I think it's okay. I think he will make it. I don't think it's gone like this.
Lunaga's mother sat on the banks of the Murray praying and being comforted by others as they watched emergency services searching the area on boats and jet skis.
There have been three drownings in New South Wales and Victoria over Christmas weekend, including a three-year-old boy who died on the night of Christmas Day.
Neighbors removed the boy's body from Lake Macquarie around 6:30 p.m. Saturday after playing in front of his house.
The boy is believed to have wandered away from his family and fell into the water where he was unable to get out.

Heading up Church Street in Beaumaris (off Castle Street). For a late afternoon explore of the town centre.
George & Dragon public house.
Grade II* Listed Building
History
Probably built in 1610, the date (now concealed) recorded on a roof truss in the 1930s, and originally timber-framed with jettied upper storey. The George & Dragon is shown on the 1829 town plan and 1889 Ordnance Survey with a house and shop immediately to the S which has now been incorporated into the public house. The present front is a C20 remodelling subsequent to the amalgamation of the 2 properties, when the upper storey was under-built, with later alteration.
Exterior
A 2-storey public house, with a neo-Georgian style front of pebble-dashed walls with smooth-rendered architraves and upper-storey sill band, slate roof, roughcast stack L of centre and 2 tall stone stacks to the rear. In the 6-window front, the lower storey has a 12-pane hornless sash window to the L end, then a modern door, a segmental-headed, studded cellar door with small window above it, two 12-pane hornless sashes, a doorway with panel door and glazed panels, a tripartite 12-pane horned sash window and boarded door at the R end. Between storeys is a rendered inscription band with raised letters and the date 1410. In the upper storey are 4-pane horned sashes, unequally placed and including a tripartite window at the R end.
Additions have been made to the rear, on the R of which is a C17 or C18 kitchen.
Interior
The lower storey has been modernised but retains cross beams and timber-framed partitions, one with exposed wattle, in the lower storey. One of the brackets that formerly supported the upper storey has also survived. The lateral fireplace on the R side survives partially, and has a timber lintel under a moulded cornice. The L gable end has a later, plainer but larger fireplace with stop-chamfered lintel.
In the upper storey, at the N end, is an arched-brace truss on a wooden bracket, and 2 timber-framed partitions, and cusped wind braces. One of the partitions, the gable end of the original building, has herringbone struts in the gable. The other partition retains fragments of wall painting, including 2 horned devils in a roundel to the R side, and a cross with bleeding heart beneath the apex. Below a beam bears the restored inscription 'PAX DEUS VOBIS REQUIE DEFUGE DEUS PROVIDEBIT ...'.
Reasons for Listing
Listed grade II* for its exceptional interest as an early C17 house with later modification and alteration to a public house, with especially fine C17 interior detail.

Eldest son of Gallienus and foreseen future emperor. The expectations in him were dashed when he was killed in battle in Illyricum in 258 AD.
Aureus 256/258, Rome. P C L VALERIANVS NOB CAES Draped and cuirassed bust, bare-headed, of Valerianus Jr. to r. Rev. PRINCIPI IVVENTVTIS Valerianus Jr. standing to l., in r. hand standard, in l. hand inverted spear. 3,87 g. RIC 11. C. 79 (Saloninus). Calicó 3698 var. Extremely rare. Extremely fine.
Ex Auction Hess, Lucerne, 23 March 1961 Ex Ancienne collection M. Côte. Ex Auction Egger XLV, 1913, lot 1225 Ex Jameson Coll. Lot 517
Cohen, strangely, catalogues this coin under Saloninus, although the name does not appear, even in abbreviated form, in the legend. Coin archives has no listings for a Valerian II aureus at all. The rarity of this coin is undoubtedly greatly underestimated.

i think i made him angry as stood on his proboscis! he dashed me away, screamed and suddenly another tinier but more thewy looking elephant appeared! i realized that he summoned for his (little?) brother. i thought it would be not the worst idea to leave this place. i ran for my life, don't turning around. they followed me but i was faster (thank goodness!). i jumped in my car, slamed the gas and disappeared as a small dusty point on the horizon. i never saw them again (thank goodness, again!) but i heared it in the news that two furious elephants running around looking for some guy with a digital camera...(ups....!)
so my friends with digital cameras - BE AWARE OF THE ELEPHANTs!

I found myself up in Muskegon today for a little while so I escaped and dashed over to the beach. I was surprised with what I found - I was expecting it to be cold, but not quite frozen over like this. Absolutely beautiful.
I shot them in black and white because there really wasn't any colour to see anyway.
For the curious, this was shot with my 800mm lens because there was simply no way I was going to traverse the ice to get closer!

Lunch in the back garden on yet another warm and sunny day. On the left is a patterned ceramic sink housing a variety of small alpine plants, and placed in front of a brick wall that is precariously holding up a wooden trellis. On the right there's a hosta in a large terracotta pot in front of the pebble-dashed wall of next-door's house. Both rest on the quarry-tiled back yard with our back door out of sight to the right.

An event in commemoration of World AIDS Day, in which runners dashed up and down the Stone Arch Bridge in red underwear in the midst of a blizzard.
I started snapping off shots as she ran toward me, thinking she was coming to me. But she dashed right past me to yell at some squirrels near the fence.
I dashed out again tonight for these with a view to doing the alternative shot from the other side. This was the best result from the series of images taken. Once again I met with some fellow enthusiasts who were great to interact with whilst waiting for this train.
'Thank you' also goes to the driver who acknowledged us as he took the train forward from here.
-- Original caption story --
The knights were mounted, about to leave, the morning sun intensified by their armor in the plaza. “Wait!” A young woman dashed through onlookers, her unkempt honey locks flying behind her. Half her armor was on, the other half in her arms. A knight in the rear guard edged the spare horse to move out of sight. “Why are you leaving without me?” She had trained with them, ate with them, thought she was one of them.
The commander adjusted his hold on the reins, “The road is a long one.”
“I am fine with it.” She walked to the poorly hidden spare horse.
Before her foot could lift to the stirrup, the commander tried again, voice raising, “The truth, Tormir, is you are a woman.”
She blinked, missed the stirrup. “And?”
Another knight, almost too young to be called a knight himself, chimed in. “We don’t want you.” Tormir’s pauldron upset from her armload and clattered in the silence of the yard. The knights kicked their horses and were off, leaving Tormir to pick up the scattered pieces of her armor.
