La marca smart –perteneciente al consorcio Daimler AG– ha presentado en Alemania la tercera generación del smart fortwo 2015, la cual llega acompañada con el retorno del nuevo smart forfour 2015 que, a diferencia de sus antecesores (los cuales fueron desarrollados en colaboración con Mitsubishi), nacen como fruto de la estrecha colaboración entre Daimler AG y la alianza Reanult-Nissan. De hecho, estos modelos comparten con el Renault Twingo 2014 hasta un 70% de los componentes.

El nuevo smart fortwo 2015 será fabricado en la planta de Hambach, Francia (en la que el consorcio alemán invirtió 200 millones de euros para su modernización para construir la nueva generación de este micro auto): mientras que el smart forfour 2015 se producirá en la factoría de Renault en Novo Mesto, Eslovenia, como parte del acuerdo de cooperación entre smart y Renault. Los nuevos smart fortwo y smart forfour 2015 serán develados al público el próximo mes de octubre en el Salón Internacional del Automóvil de Paris, mientras que su comercialización a nivel internacional arrancará el en noviembre de este año.
