June 17, 2006....

I met Dashboard about three and a half years ago while taking a nighttime walk around the neighborhood. I was several blocks away from home when suddenly in the darkness an animal was coming toward me real fast. I was startled, and at first I thought it was a skunk coming at me! I was relieved to find out it was just a VERY friendly cat. He was all black and not easy to see in the dark! I petted him for a bit and then continued on my way. It was so unusual for a cat to be that friendly with a complete stranger!

Over the weeks and months, I ran into him more and more often and started to wonder if he was a stray when he was even out there in the snow sometimes. He would often follow me for awhile as I continued walking, and I'd stop to give him some more petting several times before he would eventually turn back the other direction. I started to think about bringing him home, but figured I'd better wait to see if he belonged to anyone. I also eventually found out that this cat had only one eye, which I never realized in the dark! Wow... a one-eyed black cat!! :)

Eventually I found out he did have a home. I ran into his owner when the days grew longer and my walks were taken before dark. Dashie's owner told me a little bit about how she got him at a shelter and what a great cat he was. Apparently Dashboard was found as a kitten all tied up with wire in the dashboard of a car!!!! (I can't even bear to think about someone doing such a horrible thing to this wonderful cat! How SICK are people?!!) They don't know if that's how he lost an eye. At any rate, this wonderful cat was rescued and came to be known as "Dashboard".

In spite of the horror he lived through, Dashie was one of the friendliest and most trusting cats I've ever come across. He had so many friends, and often visited his neighbors, all of which were happy to see him too! He greeted all the passers-by on the street! Dashie had SO many friends out there!

Dashie kept me motivated for the past few years to keep walking several blocks just to say hi and pet him and exchange some hugs. Then this spring I suddenly realized that Dashie was getting very skinny, very quickly. He seemed a bit different, and a couple times he would be laying in the yard and not even want to get up to come and say hi. Eventually I ran into his owner again and asked her if Dashie was OK. She said no, he's not. He had cancer, and it had already spread to several organs. They were going to put him on steroids to try to get his appetite back and hopefully help him some. She said to be extra nice to him the next time I saw him... then she said, "Well, I know you would do that anyway!"

The weeks went by after that, and no Dashie to be found. I wondered and worried. Were they just keeping him inside because he wasn't feeling well? Day after day, I had to keep walking to Dashie's street to look for him, hoping to see him, even tho it seemed less and less likely I would find him there anymore.

Sadly, I never did see Dash again after she told me that he had cancer. Last night I was there as Dashie's Mom pulled in her driveway. She said, you know we had to put Dashie down, don't you? About three weeks ago...

Rest in peace, my sweet Dashboard.... a wonderful, friendly one-eyed cat who has touched my life, and so many others. I miss you so much. I never even got to say goodbye, my friend! The street where you lived seems so very empty now. :(

I ran out of space on the handlebars, so I added an extender bar, and extended it too.

Let see what do we have here.... My homemade handlebar bag, a handlebar extender (extended w/painted wood), 2 MiNewt X2's (not one dual system), a MiNewt 200, 2 PB 5 LED Beamers, a NR TriNewt (w/remote), the PDW Bar'ista, the NR MiNewt 600 Cordless, my laser designator, and one of my NR Digital Evolution (w/thermometer, compass, and wind chill chart). My bikes' fork lockout, an Incredibell, Cateye Mity 8 Bike Computer, The Garmin 205 GPS unit, and the stereo speakers for the iPod. Bike currently weighs in (w/o batteries) at 49.7lbs

Still missing 4 more NR Digital Evolutions, an old NR Headtrip, 2 NR Classic Plus(es), a PDW Spaceship, and a Zefal headlight... Oh, btw, I can add the Gumball machine if necessary... and I use PVC pipe as my cutting guide for pruning.

I had a fiesta on loan whilst mine had the fuel pump sorted and was amused by the big face on the dash board.

Motor Trend named the Ram Heavy Duty pickup its Truck of the Year, but if you need something even heavier you'll want to look out for the Ram Chassis Cab. They'll be shipping out to dealers later this month and will come in (deep breath) three weight classes - 3500, 4500 and 5500, three trim levels - ST, SLT and Laramie, three transmissions - six-speed manual, six-speed automatic, and five-speed manual, and two engines - 5.7-liter Hemi or 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel.

I went to visit a client today so I took a selfportrait of my knees under the wheel of my car.
