Dart 34697 waits in Faversham on route 666 to Ashford on 23.2.18.
I believe DVLA didn't issue regiostration numbers with 666 in because some drivers were alarmed by its apocalyptic connotations, but Kent County Council don't seem so squeamish about using it as a route number.
Darter dragonflies egg laying over my small pond. This is the dipping movement where the female's abdomen just touches the water and she drops an egg.
Still experimenting with inkpad. This time i traced an image from the excellent www.autofrei.wordpress.com.

Walking across Bridgetown at Totnes I was taken aback by this scene of grey sky and brown water transformed by sunlight breaking through a gap in the clouds.
A few months off her 15th birthday, and she's still trundling up and down the streets of Cardiff, looking great for her age. One of 10 similar buses bought in 2000, no's 361 - 371 (W361 VHB etc.) are currently the oldest buses in the Cardiff fleet.

An Australasian Darter in Silhouette, the shot was taken as the sun went down at Yerrabi pond in Canberra. I positioned myself as close as I could with the suns reflection in the water behind the subject.
The darter was being a good poser, which gave me time to be in the right place with the camera. Date taken: 14/6/2010. Also see this image at www.denishawkins.id.au
Another shot of the pair of USAF Convair F-106A Delta Darts from the 119th FS New Jersey Air National Guard making a gear-down fly-by at the McGuire AFB Open House on the 16th August 1987.
These two were 57-0240 with 59-0034. Sister ship 59-0049 was parked in the static arena that day. (see below)
One of the 'Century' series of fighters, F-106's were used by the USAF as part of NORAD as interceptors, eventually passing to the Air Guard units before eventual retirement to AMARC or more likely converted as unmanned QF-106 aerial drone targets ending their days in a flash and a bang!

so Warm today, had a lovely walk this morning, spotted quite a few spiders and still Common Darter Dragonflies about too
Network Buses has a fleet of ten Dennis Dart MPD's, widely used on narrow roads to villages in the hills around the operating area.
This is one of five acquired last year and put to work utilising the 'red rocket' branding it arrived in. Its four sisters likewise retain their 'rocket' branding.
Its spotted parked (at the wrong stop) across from the bus station in the village, presumably waiting to take up its next duty.
Black darter...Sympetrum danae. immature male. Crowle Moor Nature Reserve, Lincolnshire, England. This specimen seems to have a little dent on one of its lower abdominal segments, never observed this in a Dragonfly before, possible brief encounter with a birds bill?

Night, 2 minute exposure, full moon, red, blue and green-gelled strobe.
Reprocessed and replaced, April 2024.
Originally I started my photography with capturing insects.
Partly for financial reasons (I couldn't afford a big lens), but mostly because this microcosmos is so highly fascinating.
Past winter I finally saved enough money for a 300mm and a whole new world of bigger animals opened up for me.
I enjoyed this new world so much that I almost forgot about my former passion.
Almost.....since I will never stop loving these tiny crawling creatures. So as a tribute to my 'older friends' I decided to neglect all the enthusiastically whistling birds for one time and give all my attention to this couple of mating dragonflies.
DART 8140 arrives into the recently opened Grand Canal Dock Station, with the impressive Aviva Stadium in the rear of the photo.
What a revelation this electric sets were when introduced on Dublin's commuter belt, replacing clapped out diesel carraiges.
8140 is one of the original 8100 class, built by GEC and Linke-Hofmann-Busch & later upgraded by Siemens.
