Two Cardiff Bus Darts rather photogenically positioned for this photo... Seen outside Central Station.
Common Darter - Garden. Surprised to see this freshly emerged Darter sunning itself on the honeysuckle. As far as I'm aware this is the first newly emerged Dragonfly that we've ever had. This is the nearest I can get with my macro and unfortunately due to it being hidden in a honeysuckle was unable to get the DoF that I really wanted.
Introducing my new boy,

The darters or snakebirds are mainly tropical waterbirds in the family Anhingidae having a single genus Anhinga. There are four living species, three of which are very common and widespread while the fourth is rarer and classified as near-threatened by the IUCN. The term "snakebird" is usually used without any additions to signify whichever of the completely allopatric species occurs in any one region. It refers to their long thin neck, which has a snake-like appearance when they swim with their bodies submerged, or when mated pairs twist it during their bonding displays. "Darter" is used with a geographical term when referring to particular species. It alludes to their manner of procuring food, as they impale fishes with their thin, pointed beak. The American darter (A. anhinga) is more commonly known as the anhinga. It is sometimes called "water turkey" in the southern United States for little clearly apparent reason; though the anhinga is quite unrelated to the wild turkey, they are both large, blackish birds with long tails that are sometimes hunted for food.
Anhinga is derived from the Tupi ajĂĆa (also transcribed ĂĄyinga or ayingĂĄ), which in local mythology refers to a malevolent demonic forest spirit; it is often translated as "devil bird". The name changed to anhingĂĄ or anhangĂĄ as it was transferred to the TupiâPortuguese LĂngua Geral. However, in its first documented use as an English term in 1818, it referred to an Old World darter. Ever since, it has also been used for the modern genus Anhinga as a whole.
A day trip to Hastings in May 2018 produced a number of shots including Seaford & District Dennis Dart SLF / Alexander Pointer B37F 505 SE05SEA seen on Hastings seafront. This bus was new to Central Parking of Heathrow as KX05KFD in 2005.
Following its recent removal from long term storage, spurred on by a high percentage price increase, my little ex PMT Dart has jumped the queue for a bit of attention. As I've said before, this little bus is from outside my interest time-frame, but I have to say, its fun to play with so it will be given another whirl before deciding on its future. The toy box is a little too full!
J917 SEH is from PMT's initial batch of Dennis Darts, this one carries a Reeve Burgess body plate before they started just getting standard Plaxton ones. For my money, the 'Pointer' body on a small Dart like this was a pretty and practical thing.

I am open to correction on dragonfly ID!

I'd suggest that Farleigh Coaches MEZ 445 is one of the best kept Dennis Dart SLF Plaxton Pointer 2s still in operational use. It was new to Buzzlines as GX05 AVV and then spent ten years with Kent Coach Tours until their closure in 2024. It is seen in Haywards Heath, 30th March, 2025, on rail replacement to Plumpton.
Sympetrum striolatum. I took this photo of a Common Darter dragonfly on my garden fence with my new Sony A6600 and 18-135 kit lens. I wasn't quite square on to it, and so the head isn't quite sharp as I focussed on the abdomen to avoid the wings bringing the focus point forward. Also I should have composed the photo with the insect slightly to the left. Often I would correct this through cropping but I wanted to show the semi-macro capability of the lens by posting a shot without any crop. This is pretty much the minimum focus distance and I'm quite please with its performance for semi-macro insect shots, which is one of the reasons I bought it.

Having spent the past few years with an operator in Devon K91BNY has been rescued for preservation and is seen here in the Barry bus museum.
The Daimler SP250 sports car, or Dart as it is better known, is probably one of the most underrated classics cars on the road.
This one was at Meols as part of this years Wirral Classic car Run, for some reason it was parked in the garden centre car park and not seen as part of the display.
I don't know if a lot of fellow enthusiast would class the Dennis Dart as a 'modern classic' but certainly there is no doubting its service to the bus industry and its longevity in terms of service.
What I would class as a classic style is this Mk1 SLF Pointer, it looks the biz in Tally Ho!'s simple but effective livery.
I would have thought this was a very late Mk1 Pointer since R reg was when the Pointer 2 body started to appear.
It is pictured in Yelveton running on a school contract, in recent times this working has been covered by a Van Hool coach, I think they might still own this Dart although I've not seen it for a while.
My first darter for 2023 I think common.
Many thanks to you ALL for the views, faves and comments you make on my shots it is very appreciated
Finally a Dart that we can all enjoy! I remember reading something about a London Transport proposal for an 8 wheeled double decker citybus...
Whether this Dart would ride any better than the standard is very much open to question!
Last one from the weekend. This is cropped a bit, I was using my 70-300mm zoom lens as I don't have a dedicated macro lens (yet!) Wish his tail was in better focus, but at the time I was focusing on his body/head. In two minds about posting this, but I just like this as an image, and for the record I guess. His wings are like that because he was caught in a strong gust of wind, however he was determined to hang on to the bridge whatever!
