My first darter for 2023 I think common.
Many thanks to you ALL for the views, faves and comments you make on my shots it is very appreciated
African Darter, Lake Panic, Kruger, South Africa.
The fishing ability of these birds is amazing, everytime one of the Darters went under it seemed to come back with a fish. This reliability allowed me to experiment a little and this is an underexposed shot in an attempt to capture the backlight through the fishes fins. It also captured the highlights reflecting off the lake surface.

(Sympetrum striolatum) Common Darter's taking advantage of the warmth on a bench in the woods at Minsmere.
Altogether there were 15 males and 3 females sitting on the wood, the bench being the only available perch in the sun out of the wind
In the last couple of photos in the Dunlaoghaire ANSEO street art series, I have included a recreation of a DART ticket with an image of the DART coming into a station in the middle of it. The DART is the Dublin Area Rapid Transit system in Dublin. It’s the train line that runs along the coast from Greystones to Howth (and sometimes Malahide). I’m not sure it’s all that rapid really!
Another from the Eardington Reserve near Brdgnorth today. I'm thinking (based on the pale leg stripes) that this is a male Common Darter (Sympetrum striolatum). I'll be the first to admit though, that I'm often wrong with my dragonfly identifications!
This common darter (Sympetrum striolatum) had been bugging me all morning. I was working from home and from the corner of my eyes I could see him (it's male) catching mosquitos and other small insects and constantly returning to my outdoor table. When I went outside during a break to take some photo's of him a wasp kept bugging him so he flew away, only to return after a few minutes. I really like this species as the little dots are like little specks of gold leaf.

It's strange to think that this must be the newest Arriva Dart to have ever visited the town!

The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with the Double Asteroid Redirection Test, or DART, spacecraft onboard, is seen ready for launch, Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, at Space Launch Complex 4E, Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. DART is the world’s first full-scale planetary defense test, demonstrating one method of asteroid deflection technology. The mission was built and is managed by Johns Hopkins APL for NASA’s Planetary Defense Coordination Office. Photo Credit: (NASA/Bill Ingalls)
Seen near Wisley Rally in 2003, is this development Dart. Very odd with a large roof pod and flared rear wheel arches.
This is my favourite shot from our trip to Kruger. It was a cold cold morning but the rising mist created a stunning arena for photography. Here I have deliberately underexposed the shot not only to create a silhoutte but also so as not to burn out the delicate colours of the beautifully lit sunrise.
See my trip report at www.stproc.co.uk (Now Updated)
I have updated this shot now that I have improved my Photoshop skills. There were a few small gaps in the feathers which were slightly distracting and have been respectfully filled in, the colours are a touch smoother and a thin stroke (border) has been added.
