Stopped for a 45 minute photo excursion on Mount Ashland in Oregon today. Well, excursion is a bit of a stretch, this seasonal water falls is right off I-5, just before the train overpass on the south side of the interstate. I've wanted to get some pictures here for years, but being seasonal and well, things just haven't clicked... until today. If you check this out large, I think you'll be surprised at the interesting details, in and around the upper part of the falls. I was anyway.
Local time was about 1:30 PM, and while stuck back in the shade of the trees, still too much light to shoot without a filter. I used a Lee ND 10 stop and 25 sec exposure.
As I climbed the last mountain, Lake Shasta Reservoir way down the valley to my left, I caught a glimpse of a waterfall to my right, set back in the woods. I pulled off the road a hundred yards later, and decided I'd go take a look even though it was lightly raining. This small set of waterfalls was about 75 feet back from the road. I'm sure it's dry in the summer, but California has had so much rain, even the reservoir is completely full after years of drought. Anyway, kinda surprised I saw this from the road, trees have it almost completely concealed.
From the outside, this part of the forest looks healthy and strong. Except for our friend in the foreground .... But numerous trees are marked by the drought and the bark beetle plague, and we don't see it from the outside.
For real? No, there is a high proportion of dead wood in the so-called primeval forest, but it offers a great habitat for other plant and animal species. Everything flows .... That was the last picture from the primeval forest. 🌳

In The Dark Forest
~Leigh Gordon Giltner~
The long gray twilight falls and deeper glooms
Close round the graying wood that dimmer grows
As dies the Day's last yearning tint of rose,
And Dusk spins shadows on her eldritch looms.
The black bat flits, the eerie white moth flies--
Wan ghost of yesterday's bright butterfly--
The dusking forest pools uplooking lie
Like graveless dead men's staring, sightless eyes.
Ah, eerie, eerie is the lonely wood,
But lo! the faeries light their firefly lamps,
Elusive foxfire flames from marish damps;
Hastes to the morris-dance an elfin brood;
A far bell chimes, the cricket cheerly shrills,
The droning beetle sounds his hoarse bassoon
And hylas trill; eftsoon the rising moon
The ambient air to molten silver thrills.
Then all the lyric night is set to song!
The cuckoo calls, the plaining whippoorwill
Cries faint and far away; more distant still
The hoopoe, hid his marshy haunts among,
Wails with the cry of some lost soul in pain;
The nightingale engilds the pulsant dark
With golden-throated melody--but hark!
The night-jar's discord mars the perfect strain.
The night wears on, black shadows throng apace,
The wood is still, the moon grows wan and old,
White marsh-mists wreathe like clammy arms, death-cold,
And moth-wings like dead fingers sweep my face;
The bittern wailing leaves the sombre pool,
Voicing the world-old pain that never dies;
The owl with ghoulish laughter outward flies
Like some weird Vivien shrieking, "Fool!" and "Fool!"

I love him!!! As a child I already enjoyed this smell of freshly made yeast dough. The homemade, rolled out yeast dough with the sprinkles came in the oven and gave off a delicious scent. Wonderful! And then, when the cake was ready, to nibble on this warm cake ... This forest in the early morning hours, flooded with spots of sunshine, reminded me a lot of the delicious, warm homemade crumble cake. I think we also had a piece of cake in the afternoon after the hike.
Mystic car. There are cars in almost every place on earth. As if they were part of nature. Do we really need that many automobiles on earth? And there are more and more ....
sunlight filtering through the dense canopy of tall pine trees, creating a dappled pattern of light and shadow on the forest floor. The air is crisp with the scent of pine needles, and there's a gentle rustle of leaves as a soft breeze sweeps through the trees. The play of light creates an ethereal atmosphere, with beams of golden sunlight illuminating patches of moss-covered ground and highlighting the rich green hues of the pine needles. It's a tranquil and mesmerizing scene, inviting you to pause and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature.
This is a last years photo....I should go and find myself a cheap house somewhere in the woods/ mountains to go away for the weekend. I don't know.... I'm just tired.
Dark is the forest and deep, and overhead
Hang stars like seeds of light
In vain, though not since they were sown was bred
Anything more bright.
And evermore mighty multitudes ride
About, nor enter in;
Of the other multitudes that dwell inside
Never yet was one seen.
The forest foxglove is purple, the marguerite
Outside is gold and white,
Nor can those that pluck either blossom greet
The others, day or night.

This is a " panoramic " photo I did but combining the in a Vertical position, It is a combination of 10-12 pictures mate at, if I remember correctly 30 mm do somewhat cancel the barrel distortion my lens make under 24 mm. The weather was fogy I was on the peek at that small mountain witch was cold enough to create a foggy atmosphere. As the camera I used a old Nikon D300 witch is great because it makes 14 bit uncompressed raw pics it ha 12mpx witch is perfect for creating bigger sized pictures ( if I remember the biggest I made was 100 px + ) as a tip when you take photos in winter in snow or fog it is recommended that you over expose your shot because the light meter believes that the scene has much light that there is. What can I say more.... If you have any questions feel free to ask. Have a nice day!
In the heart of the forest, where shadows conceal,
Lies the story of ages, a history so real.
Once thriving with life, a village long gone,
Whispers through time, like a timeless song.
Beneath the green canopy, secrets are buried,
Legends and tales, in the soil they're carried.
Roman treasures hidden, in soil they lay,
Echoes of Arpad and Matyas, they say.
Through centuries passed, like leaves in the breeze,
These mountains have witnessed the rise and the ease.
Hunyadi's valor, the empire's grand stride,
In this ancient haven, they all did reside.
Forgotten by most, but remembered by few,
The ghosts of the past, in the forest they strew.
Each artifact found, a connection to yore,
A glimpse into lives, once thriving and more.
So when you behold this forest so deep,
Remember the souls in eternal sleep.
For history's layers, like rings in a tree,
Reveal tales of lives that once used to be.
In the heart of this forest, where history resides,
Ancient echoes linger, where nature now hides.
Let's cherish the past in this mystical place,
A tapestry of time, in this serene space.
( A.I Generated poem )
...................................................
The picture is a panoramic type, the light was awful, I made some ...tests- practice. I made a series of 3 pannoramic images and some HDR types ( don't get cheap on the tripod :)) trust me)
the panoramic one are in color versions as well but in my opinion due to the awful light I simplified it to black and white ( contrast and light ). As for the poem I asked chat gpt.... well Let's just say there is allot of history in these woods that is only known from ancient maps dating back to the early 18th century ( that is only available in Hungarian archives ) and from "mouth" that was passed down from generations that is almost non existent today.
Thanks for the visit and have a nice day :)
I was wondering in the woods searching for good dramatic light that shine trough the woods, and I also wanted to see if the leaves turn yellow, one more week I hope. And that's when I came across the two mushroom fruits. It was a little challenging taking photos, I was using Iso 200 ( the noise on the d300 is awful ) I usually use 100-200 iso and using a tripod. But this time I had to take it of and put it on the side using live view zooming in to the picture to fine focus and using a wired remote to take the pic. I usually put it on a 10 sec timer leaving it on a tripod, but this time since it wasn't on a tripod it always moved when I pressed the button to take the pic. But with a remote control the issue was resolved. Just one of those accessories that I rarely use but makes a difference from time to time.
