Perhaps a bit of a metaphor in the title - tough times ahead for the UK Parliament. Still, lets take a breath and enjoy Christmas with family and friends. It'll still be there in the new year.

Early August storm cells are usually non severe and with little to no precip. Though the dry air creates some of the best photographic scenarios you could ask for if you love clouds... especially storms in Nebraska.
I had the afternoon off and was ready for that afternoons chase. Camera in hand, and storms moving into northern Buffalo County from the northwest...I was ready to catch some incredible storm captures.
August has always been my month to capture some of my best pics. This set of captures was just the first of many to come!

The green hills as seen on the road from Yea to Yarra Glen. I was trying to find a hill with just one tree on the top but this was the closest. It is a pity there weren't more trees but the farmers seem to need the grass!
The Isle of Skye is a beautiful location with some amazing and varied landscapes to be seen. Unfortunately the island also has the most changeable weather I have ever seen with sunshine giving way to gale force winds and horizontal rain within the space of 5 minutes.
I approached the climb to the Storr on a pleasant sunny evening hoping for some nice light on the rock stacks and some good colour in the clouds in the background. What I got after an hour of climbing was a wind that was so strong I could barely stand up with rain that felt like being stabbed with needles. At least the wind and rain kept the marauding midges at bay which was a blessing but it didn’t help with trying to take some HDR photographs.
I had carried my tripod up the fairly steep and lengthy climb up to the top of the Storr in the hope that I would use it as a stable base to capture HDR sets. In reality the wind was so strong that I just couldn’t leave the camera on the tripod without holding everything down. Kind of counter-productive there! In the end I just grabbed bracketed sets using the camera hand held and tried to stabilise myself as much as possible by hiding in the shelter of rocks or hollows in the hillside. The biggest issue with doing that is that you find out where all the midges are hiding.
Not the best of shoots but one that I won’t forget in a hurry. My shot today is one of the few HDR sets that kind of worked. It shows the view from just below a plateau to the north of the stacks which is used by most photographers to stand on when shooting the stacks but which I used for shelter from the wind and rain. I hope it was all worth it.
On a walk in the German Black Forest: not only the wood in the background looked dark, but the sky too! This is a fuller view of the clearing I mentioned under my previous photo of a farmhouse. It is farming land, with scattered farms, some cows and a pool for them to drink from.
The Cascade Volcanic Arc is a segment of the Cascade Range in western North America extending from southern British Columbia through Washington and Oregon to Northern California. A prominent grouping is The Three Sisters with each peak at more than 10,000 feet (3,000 m) in elevation. As we returned from Denver to Corvallis,Oregon, we had hoped to see some of these peaks. At first, there were heavy clouds obscuring them, but the dark clouds lifted as we approached Sisters, Oregon. This revealed middle Sister peaking its pointed top partially behind North Sister.

This is a mostly abandoned industrial complex just south of downtown Saint Louis, MO. USA. The lighter building on the right is a kind of horse barn/storage shed for the horse and buggy rides provided along the riverfront and the downtown. Thanks for looking at it with me.

Vandaag maar weer eens naar Kijkduin gewandeld. Ik woon er nu iets verder vandaan dan de afgelopen 20 jaar.
Storm op komst dus iedereen druk bezig losse elementen vast te sjorren. Je ziet ook dat het seizoen ten einde loopt. Kijkduin is moe.

I decided to reprocess this image with my new Lightroom and Photoshop skills. I used 32bit TIFF's which were first processed in Lightroom. These files were then stitched and processed in Photoshop. Overall the image detail is increased.
Today is day 300 of my 365 journey through the year and so to mark this milestone I’m revisiting one of my favourite locations. This is an image of the rock stack on the point of Talisker Bay on the Isle of Skye.
When visiting Skye you just cannot predict what the conditions are going to be like and on some days it was so dark and wet that shooting was effectively impossible. If I hadn’t been forced by a tight schedule to visit the bay on this evening I would probably have stayed away because the forecast was not expected to be good. However, persevere and you just don’t know what will happen. I don’t think I could have asked for a better sky that evening and there was just enough of a breeze to keep away the dreaded midges.

Rare for Nebraska in November that is....
There was some risk of severe weather that afternoon. In fact.... way out of season severe weather. There was just enough instability by afternoon to allow the thunderstorms to develop, strengthen, and even spin up a few tornadoes in the 4-5 p.m. CST time frame.
I had a 5 hour drive back from Missouri and was exhausted. Plus I had to work in a few hours so chasing this storm was just not possible that afternoon. But I did venture out to capture a few snaps of that afternoons events.
Pictured here were the cells effecting the Red Cloud to Clay Center Nebraska areas. I was just to the south of the I-80 Minden Interchange. Found a cozy spot without any powerlines and pointed my camera to the east southeast.

Humid and the mosquitoes were eating me alive...
I wouldn't have to chase this evening to catch some incredible Nebraska views of this supercell that formed just to the north of Hastings Nebraska. The perfect sunlight cresting against this storm cell was perfect in every way. I knew I was in for a treat. Just a few blocks from home I set up shop!
We had a dying cell to our west creating a beautiful sunset and I would eventually get a few snaps of this. Though was pointing due east from my location on the outskirts of Kearney Nebraska. It had all of my attention. 4 Cameras in position for this event. Pointing due east I was watching these billowing thunderheads on the updraft and it was a sight to see.
I also knew then that this was going to produce come incredible lighting after dark. I was prepared and ready!

This is exactly how it looks.
It gets dark and darker. A strong wind blows from the south. Trees, rocks and everything get almost black.
This is a country where heavy storms come up every now and then, especially in the Summer.
The picture above was taken from the veranda of our house at the beach. We have been witnessing amazing things from there, such as impressive and indiscribable lightning shows.
We also saw a boat being thrown over the treetops on the island opposite. Scary day.
Many houses were damaged then. Ours is protected by a hill. The wind doesn´t make the curve to reach us.
Had a drive along shields last night . While the kids played on the sand I took a quick shot of the pipe.
Looking out West across Loch Broom and Little Loch Broom towards The Minch. An Teallach on the left and on the right, the Coigach Hills, Stac Pollaidh, Cul Beag, Cul Mor (Suilven is mostly hidden behind) and Canisp.
