When the green woods laugh with the voice of joy,
And the dimpling stream runs laughing by;
When the air does laugh with our merry wit,
And the green hill laughs with the noise of it.
~ William Blake
In New Zealand, from atop Rocky Mountain, near Wanaka. The high snowy peak on the horizon is Mt. Aspiring (9951 ft). A strip of green marks some pastureland. The big cliff above it and to the left has a massive landslip, reaching all the way to the top. Perhaps a large-scale version of the Ferguson Slide in the Merced River Canyon west of Yosemite.
A quiet forest path winds through the lush greenery of a summer woodland. Sunlight filters through the canopy, painting the trail with a play of light and shadow – a peaceful retreat in the heart of nature.
Well, officially it is Balmacaan Wood but the Bluebells were approaching their 'peak' a week or so ago and I was drawn to this beautiful view on the edge of the woods.
There had been some rain and I struggled to get a balance between the shadows and bright spots in the scene. Use of a polariser to overcome the reflection from the droplets and a touch of negative exposure compensation seemed to help.

Starry, starry light,
Paint your palette green and white...
Wild Garlic (Allium Ursinum) ICM in dappled light
This image was taken on the Isle of Harris on an ideal photographic day weather wise. It now hangs proudly on one of my walls, as a three foot horizontal metal foil finished print. This was done by Loxely Colour, a fine print house in Glasgow, whom I can throughly recommend.
The dappled light made this a special day walking amongst the silver birch trees and the bracken on Cannock Chase.

On the Potterie-rei under the trees, making for interesting light-play.
Have a wonderful day, filled with love and thank you for your visit, M, (*_*)

Sometimes the views are just much better in the air! I am always fascinated by the landscape in the air. The perspective completely changes. Last month I had the opportunity again to fly over the Highlands in Iceland. The landscape here is incredible with its various textures and colors. I'm still in awe of the beauty of this area. The conditions were just right with the diffused and dappled light dancing through the mountains. Such an amazing experience!

▶ Photographer's note:
This is a close-up. The blossoms appear much larger in the image than they did in 'real' life.

I hiked along the Appalachian Trail last year and again this year looking for a nice composition of the rhododendron flowers and it never happened. The flaming azaleas in this shot aren't all bad....... are they? I don't like "get off the bus" shots so I hike to find something a bit different.
I hope you enjoy....... I brewed a cup of coffee at this spot and waited for the light to be to my liking. There is nothing like enjoying a cup of coffee with this view!
Fresh leaves of the Maple tree. This tree is covered in the most amazing varieties of lichen. Shot with the Pentagon 50mm f1.8
A crabapple tree strewing its spent blossoms on the ground. The day was windy and the understory dappled by continuously moving patterns. I took several images and caught the tree looking at me in this one.
Taken in the wooded slopes of Shaugh Prior, up from the river. Full of little canyons & old trees : why more togs don't visit it is a shame, probably the steepness puts most off. Just as interesting as Wistman's woods which has been photographed to death.
No pain, no gain . . . . .

As the direction of travel at the gardens was diverted onto the path from the Desert Rose Garden to Heritage Farm, I came across this great old weathered bench.
Many times have this bench and I done the photographic dance.
Most of those times I missed focus on the portions I wanted to catch.
I already had the X-T1 and Helios lens on the tripod. I had the tripod mostly leaning against the fence.
By this hour lots of folks were passing by, all walking toward the bench. Eventually there was enough time to have the camera bracket shots. Feeling in the way and vulnerable, I didn't even chimp to see what I had gotten.
Without a doubt, I got lucky here.
Happy Loosening Restrictions Bench Monday!
The many colors, layers and textures of the Grand Canyon are enhanced by the afternoon's dappled light.
The magnificent Grand Canyon National Park is located in northern Arizona and was formed over millions of years by the Colorado River. The canyon is more than 200 miles long 12 miles wide and a mile deep. The national park is visited by about 5 million people a year.
To me the colors and view of the canyon change with the season, time of day and of course clouds. This photo was taken during the late winter when the visiting crowds are almost non-existent. It almost feels strange. I've had the experience of going to one of the overlooks and being the only one there.

Happy Friday! Our second Palouse Workshop is starting today! Participants are in for a treat with many of the canola fields in full bloom. Instructor Ryan McGinty has scouted the best canola areas and with big clouds and thunderstorms forecasted for tonight, it could be pretty epic! Dates are set for Palouse 2021 and our loyalty members will get first notification. If you aren't a member yet, you can check out the program on our webpage.
This shot was taken on our last workshop at the end of May. Nice clouds and dappled light really made this scene come alive. I don't often shoot in midday, but these types of conditions are certainly an exception to that rule!
This is the third shot, of a small series taken in the woods.
No flash ........... natural dappled light!
A little gap in a passing cloud allowed the sun to highlight a small part of the east Lomond hill in Fife.
Deep in the forest, the berries of a leatherleaf mahonia shrub are limned in light and shadow.
