Most of my professional career my assignments were journalistic and the majority were shot in BW these days it’s rare that I think black and white when sizing up a scene and this was no exception. While processing it felt as the colors were distracting and on a whim I went for BW. I was moved by the depth and emotion that the contrasts within the highlights and shadows revealed in this impressionistic image. I hope you enjoy the view of intentional camera movement as much as I do. Happy Monday!

Highlights from a photowalk with my friend Mike V. in downtown Ottawa, where Mike was fixating on the dappled light reflecting against the wall... from the middle of the street.
Spoiler alert: he never got hit by a car or anything. Sunday mornings in downtown Ottawa aren't all that busy.
A gravity defying Pine Cone, but very beautiful nevertheless less. It comes complete with both a few webs and bags of bokeh.
Processed a little artsy with a modified Adamski effect.
This girl is so friendly and relaxed, she was chillin in the dappled light, while the rest of the wild herd were just out of view.

Have calm thoughts,
Picture calm scenes,
Recall calm sounds,
And guess what you'll be feeling ........... :) :) :)

It has been extremely hot a muggy here lately. I trugged through it last week to enjoy some hiking and photography on my day off. Just visited my local hiking trail, and had a blast playing with my old Minolta lenses.

This was taken up on the top of Muddy Creek Falls on the dry side. The water is cascading down just to the left of the sun baked rock. During high water times, the waterfall covers much of this scene.
I was framing a shot of the woodland path when this couple suddenly appeared! Serendipity!!
Thank you, everyone, for your visits, comments and faves - they are much appreciated!

Dappled Light on The Towers of the Virgin on a brisk morning in Zion National Park, Utah.
----------------------------------------------
First image from a recent trip to Zion but actually the last image I took on the trip, turns out that's a pattern for me. I'd only been to Zion once before, many years ago before I was into landscape photography. I've been wanting to come back ever since and recently got the chance. Considering that it's winter and during the government shutdown I thought that the place would be practically empty... Oh how I was wrong.
I got up before dawn to capture this view. The forecast said it was supposed to be mostly cloudy.. Well, it was cloudy behind me, so I guess the forecast was at least partially correct. As I waited for the light to show itself, the sun slotted between the clouds to provide this lovely dappled light on the towers and I captured this image with some frost covered bushes in the foreground...

Decided to get up early this morning and took a trip to Seaham for a sunrise session. I was going to go up north as there is a location I fancy but the tide was wrong. It was a weird morning, early into the drive my left contact lens fell out, luckily I always carry a spare pair of glasses in the glove compartment. The sky was looking very overcast with only a thin opening on the horizon and with the lens mishap I nearly turned back, but I’m glad I didn’t as I feel I took a couple of snaps this morning that probably made my effort worth while. session so far. Here is my favourite from that session so far, a case of groyne today gone tomorrow.
Drifts of wild garlic and bluebells along the road past Lochwinnoch, just a shame I cant share the smell of the garlic with you too!
Emu Bottom rustic sheep yards and a roman nosed Merino sheep that was surprisingly friendly. There were some others quietly grazing nearby. The rustic fences would have been built using the tough Eucalypt wood from the tall trees that would have graced the landscape.

A young grape leaf captured a few weeks ago with iPhone and Olloclip Macro Lens.
Edited on the iPad in Snapseed.
The dappled morning light accentuated the colors and texture of the newly unfurled leaf.
I have a black and white version that I like and will prob. post sometime in the future.
Dappled light falls on small streams meandering beneath Crown Point's Vista House in the Columbia River Gorge.
The streams flow into Mirror Lake caught between the Historic Columbia River Highway and I-84.
While hiking around Saltese Flats in Spokane, Washington, this scene stopped me in my tracks. After a few moments enjoying this view I realized I wanted to capture an image. I was packing my camera with a 500mm lens, then I remembered I had my iPhone and hoped it could do this view justice. I was happy with the result.
Berries are somewhat shrivelled but I liked the contrast with the surrounding woodland being that they were out on a little limb...
I just love California this time of the year! This shot was actually taken last year around this time. This was a quick handheld pano with my Nikkor 70-200mm. You gotta love VR!
Hope everyone is staying healthy and safe!
Thanks for Looking!
The leaves start to fall....shot with a 1960 Helios 44M. This was actually a totally natural shot but it kind of looks like the leaves were super-imposed....which they weren't! ;-))
