The Vanity Ballroom in Detroit was originally designed by Charles Agree and opened in 1929. It is an Art Deco building with an Aztec Theme and was used primarily for Big Bands until the 1960's. It had a 5,000 foot maple dance floor that was built on springs to support the many dancers that would be there. Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, and Duke Ellington, among others, frequented here during its heyday. It originally closed in 1958, reopened as a concert venue in 1964 and later was used to host concerts by Detroit acts such as the MC5. There used to be stores all along the front, including Cunningham Drugs Store, which was a big chain of stores in Detroit.
Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Oh, let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above
Dance me to the end of love

Laila dancing... I think she's doing the Black Bottom or the Shimmy (both are dances from the 20's).
This was fun to do, and a bit scary XD The mister took the pics while I posed her and then stayed nearby each time to catch her if she tried to fall (which she did try to do several times!). These were inspired by her new dress :) I've wanted this dress for ages and I'm so glad I finally have a girl it fits. I even found a pic in one of my pattern catalogues from the 20's that looks basically just like this dress <3
As the night danced away the floor was left to those even younger or less exhausted. The happiness was to go on and
children to come as years passed.

They say oh my god I see the way you shine
Take your hand, my dear, and place them both in mine
You know you stopped me dead while I was passing by
And now I beg to see you dance just one more time
Ooh I see you, see you, see you every time
And oh my I, I, I like your style
You, you make me, make me, make me wanna cry
And now I beg to see you dance just one more time
So they say
Dance for me, dance for me, dance for me, oh, oh, oh
I've never seen anybody do the things you do before
They say move for me, move for me, move for me, ay, ay, ay
And when you're done I'll make you do it all again
I said oh my god I see you walking by
Take my hands, my dear, and look me in my eyes
Just like a monkey I've been dancing my whole life
But you just beg to see me dance just one more time
Ooh I see you, see you, see you every time
And oh my I, I like your style
You, you make me, make me, make me wanna cry
And now I beg to see you dance just one more time
So they say
Dance for me, dance for me, dance for me, oh, oh, oh
I've never seen anybody do the things you do before
They say move for me, move for me, move for me, ay, ay, ay
And when you're done I'll make you do it all again
They say
Dance for me, dance for me, dance for me, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I've never seen anybody do the things you do before
They say move for me, move for me, move for me, ay, ay, ay
And when you're done I'll make you do it all again
Ooh
Woah-oh, woah-oh, oh
Ooh
Ah ah, ah
They say
Dance for me, dance for me, dance for me, oh, oh, oh
I've never seen anybody do the things you do before
They say move for me, move for me, move for me, ay, ay, ay
And when you're done I'll make you do it all again
They say
Dance for me, dance for me, dance for me, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I've never seen anybody do the things you do before
They say move for me, move for me, move for me, ay, ay, ay
And when you're done I'll make you do it all again
All again

I came across this theatre in Cuba, and when I went in there were dance rehearsals going on. No-one paid any attention to me, so I was able to take some photographs there.

Betawi dance performance, during opening ceremony of Festival Jalan Jaksa (Jaksa Street Festival), July 10th 2009.
Jaksa street is well-known for backpacker and tourist destination in the heart of Jakarta city. A small street with plenty of cheap accommodations or hotels, restaurant, bar or cafe and also discotheque along the way. It attracts tourist especially foreigner to hang out here and find the exotic of non-glamorous Jakarta's night..
Every year, Jaksa Street Festival celebrated with many of attractions involved, such as live music, local Betawi art exhibitions, culinary festival, handicraft stalls, etc. This event starts at July 10th and will be ended on Sunday, July 12th.
Be there, Jakartans!

forgot to bring my handy SB-400 flash, so I set the ISO into 1600. better get a noisy photos rather than blurry one. besides, I think the noise adds classic feeling to the image.. :D
Lake Erie has been dancing to her own music of late, as the autumn winds kick up some pretty sweet water. I often write poems/songs about dancing, which is rather ironic, considering I have two left feet, and I would make Elaine Benes look like she belonged on DWTS. lol I call this, simply, Dance, and is about using dance (whatever that may look like for you) as a way to make your problems disappear.
Dance
Dance, like tomorrow never comes
Dance, like when your heart was young
And you can keep on dancing
Even when the music’s done
Dance the night away until you dance into the sun
You can dance
You can dance
You can dance like tomorrow never comes
Dance like yesterday’s come and gone
Dance like all the sorrow and your pain is in the past
Don’t worry about the things that you can’t change
Dance into tomorrow don’t let sorrow hold you back
Dance the night away, hold out for the best
You can dance
You can dance
Even if tomorrow never comes, you can dance.
You can dance
You can jive
Having the time of your life
Ooh, see that girl
Watch that scene
Digging the dancing queen

WIT: I wanted to try the Pep Ventosa method of photo processing - it's where you use several images taken at slightly different angles, up to 360 degrees, and then stack them together in layers in Photoshop. Using different types of treatments, like overlay and screen in the different layers, and masking in and out certain parts in the different layers, I came up with this abstraction of a street statue of ballet dancers.
The mating ritual of monarch butterflies involves flying, hanging, and resting while staying connected for extended periods. One of my favorite photos of the monarch butterflies.
