The American White Pelican, frequently spoken of as "THE CLOUD DANCER” representing their graceful, soaring flight in groups, often moving together in the sky. The White Pelican is a masterpiece of natural avionic architecture, a creature of stark, snowy elegance and of prehistoric size. On the water, it sits high and buoyant like a regal white galleon. In the air, it transforms into a master of the thermals with its massive 9-foot wingspan tipped with ink-black flight feathers that only reveal themselves in motion.

Unlike its rugged, salt-sprayed cousin the Brown Pelican, the White Pelican possesses a luminous, pristine plumage that seems to glow even on overcast days. It's most striking feature is the massive tangerine-orange bill, which during the breeding season, develops a strange keratinous horn on the upper ridge...a temporary crown that gives the bird a mythical, archaic appearance.

On the water they dip their pouched bills to scoop up fish, or tip-up like an oversized dabbling duck. Sometimes, groups of pelicans work together to herd fish into the shallows for easy feeding. Look for them on inland lakes in summer and near coastlines in winter.

When they move, they do so with a quiet, synchronized grace. Watching a flock circling and soaring in a tight rising column high above the California landscape is a hypnotic experience, as the CLOUD DANCERS alternate between brilliant white to sudden black with every tilt of their black tipped wings against the deep blue sky.

I am fully aware of the clash of it in my photostream being posed beside "No Future". That's intentional.

In the 1990's IKEA sold sets of colorful glass vases. I happened across these at a local thrift store. How wonderful to recycle the beauty!

Dancing Lady Orchid

Botanical name: Oncidium

Most oncidium orchid species produce dozens of small flowers at the same time, giving a spectacular show that lasts for several weeks. The large-lipped flowers may be yellow, white, red, pink, green or brown.

The flowers vary greatly, but share one common feature: the large lower petal, called a lip, is always perpendicular to the side winged petals.

The distinctive shape of the blooms, carried on many-branched stems give oncidium orchid its common name: Dancing Lady Orchid. Oncidiums flutter in the breeze, making them "dance."

Have a beautiful new week everyone!!💝

Thank you for your visits, kind comments, invites, awards and faves. Always greatly appreciated.

Young dancers performance during a dress rehearsal. Thank you for your appreciation, Gail

Dressed in their lovely traditional costumes, these five delightful young ladies had been entertaining us with traditional dancing. We had only just arrived in Luang Prabang,Laos, when we were taken to an ancient wooden house. There we had a splendid meal, then a Buddhist welcome ceremony followed by these ladies dancing. It was truly a magical night to remember in this wonderful city of many Buddhist temples. Unfortunately the light here was very dim so I struggled to get decent images.

Slow-stop in the midst of whatever you were doing, conversation you were having, and look up or down together or alone. Everything changes. In the hilltops, right over your talking heads, the trees are dancing.

This was a casual dance. I'm suprised they let us in with DN cosplay, let alone an AKATSUKI cloak.

*Sigh~* I love Sam. XD

This is proof that we're retarded.

St. Albans, in front of the museum and close to the large artificial Christmas tree, a small child starts dancing, on its own, and completely uninhibited by anything and anyone. The parents don't join in, but they are smiling: glorious childhood, humanity before the fall. Fuji X-Pro2, XF 1.4/35 wide-open.
