The dance troop, Bandaloop, perforned a 'vertical dance' on the face of one of the walls of the Westin Harborview Hotel in Portland, Maine with two short performances at mid-day. Lots of harsh light. Here I rotated the image 90 degrees.
A pioneer in vertical dance performance, BANDALOOP seamlessly weaves dynamic physicality, intricate choreography and the art of climbing to turn the dance floor on its side. Founded by choreographer and artistic director Amelia Rudolph, BANDALOOP’s indoor/outdoor work has been presented in theaters and museums, on skyscrapers, bridges, billboards and historical sites, in atriums and convention halls, in nature on cliffs, and on screen. BANDALOOP honors nature, community and the human spirit by bringing dance to new audiences, activating public and natural spaces, and re-imagining what dance can be.
They say what we do is death-defying. I’d say it’s life-affirming.

Kolattam is an ancient village art. It could also be called "the stick dance." This is mentioned in Kanchipuram as 'Cheivaikiyar Kolattam', which proves its antiquity. This is performed by women only, with two sticks held in each hand, beaten to make a rhythmic sound. Pinnal Kolattam is danced with ropes which the women hold in their hands, the other of which are tied to a tall pole. With planned steps, the women skip over each other, which forms intricate lace-like patterns in the ropes. As coloured ropes are used, this lace looks extremely attractive. Again, they unravel this lace reversing the dance steps. This is performed for ten days, starting with the new moon night after Deepavali.
The significance of the Pinnal Kolattam is the ups and downs of life, the mysteries of life that can be unraveled and beautiful tapestries can be woven by the sense of unity, understanding and systematic design
Indian dancer of Sri Devi Nrithyalaya - Chennai (Madras), South India .
This Indian dance style of bharatnatyam is one of the classical Indian dances.
In this Classical dance form of Indian dance, the jewellery and costumes play and important role. While Kathak does not belong to Carnatic dance, songs and music styles, Mohini Attam does, but steps differ in each style. In these pictures you can see different traditional Indian dance poses.
Devadasis , temple dancers, were performing nritta and abhinaya for gods in the temples, as we see from the paintings. They learnt "Indian dance" at classical classes the history of mudras (hasthas). Dancers from Scottish Ballet in the world premiere of their new production of Swan Lake, choreographed by David Dawson.
I took this at the dress rehearsal at the Theatre Royal in Glasgow, on Monday.
Shooting dance is thrilling, challenging and frustrating in almost equal measures. Particularly when there are lots of dancers on stage...it's a constant challenge trying to identify how to compose the shot. Lots of stray body parts in frame, generally don't make for a great shot.
Shooting dance is chaos...but, order can emerge. :-)
You can see other shots of this production in my Swan Lake set.
It will also be touring to Aberdeen, Inverness, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Liverpool.

Graceful dancing tree twists and spins like no one is watching – showing off her colorful autumn dress. A lazy Ashtabula River flows by, unimpressed by her celebration of fall.
