This is a glass button (from the 1930s), which arrived damaged. I was given a full refund and told I could keep it, so of course I did. Well, you never know when it might come in handy for a challenge, do you? :)

Of course, this female mallard was unable to tell me about what happened, but the damage to the bill is quite evident. More subtle in the picture is that it appears part of the tongue is missing too. Still able to function normally since the injury, based on what I was seeing, but who know the cost to longevity if there is more energy being expended to stay nourished.

Caught another opportunity to take some photos of this woodpecker. He apparently found a tree he really liked because unlike the previous encounter, he spent a good 20 minutes pounding away at this dead tree. Managed some nice debris shots like this one.
