'Damage' || Thames Centre, Ontario, Canada || April 2023

Blue Pond (青い池 Aoi-ike) is a man-made pond feature in Biei, Hokkaido, Japan. It is the result of works on the Biei River (美瑛川), carried out after the 1988 eruption of Mount Tokachi, to protect the town of Biei from volcanic mudflows. The colour is thought to result from the accidental presence of colloidal aluminium hydroxide in the water.[1][2] Damage caused by Typhoon Mindulle in August 2016 resulted in a temporary drop in the water level and in the colour briefly turning brown with mud and sand from the Biei River.

The beautiful bloom with the bee in a previous post. Winter finally came and the freezing cold damaged the blooms. My Camellias are the spring blooming ones.

just after the plane that was above it in formation had been shot down by anti-aircraft fire near Chichi Jima and fell on this TBF, breaking off the left wingtip and cracking the fuselage just ahead of the tail. The damaged plane was flown by its pilot about 100 miles back to its task group but had to crash land in the water. All crew members were rescued. Plane was from USS BENNINGTON (CV-20). Probably taken 18 February-4 March 1945.

Illustrium Poetarum Flores, by Octavianus Mirandola, 1599

This book one of my most prized possessions, a gift from a friend a long time ago. Recently I had it restored (you can see that the wormholes have been covered with (acid-free) tissue paper).

Another recently acquired slide and a bit of a favourite at Ardrossan depot where ND1670 was known as a flier, probably it's undoing as it was written off after accident damage but it looks in great order here on the forecourt of the depot prabably in 1976 or so with one of the Burlingham bodied PD3s alongside. Acquired with copyright.

A few trees in the Woodlands came down in the recent storms - some with dramatic results.

Once again a short trip to the gardens of Schloss Dyck near Jüchen. When nature blooms, the flying motifs are not far. When we looked at the photo on the monitor, we first saw that his wing had a crack. But that could not keep him from his work.

Here in Hemyock we "got off lightly"; personally just a fence panel and this tree. It called for some "Emergency" repair work to stop it falling onto my and the neighbours garden sheds.

[from wikipedia] The Peninsula Manila (colloquially known as the Manila Peninsula or simply Manila Pen), is a 5-star luxury hotel in the Philippines. It is located on the corner of Ayala Avenue and Makati Avenue in the Makati Central Business District, falling under the jurisdiction of Barangay Urdaneta. The hotel is part of The Peninsula Hotels chain based in Hong Kong and is the first hotel of that chain outside the Chinese territory.

The fountain in February 2024

The Peninsula Manila was opened on September 14, 1976, ahead of that year's International Monetary Fund conference. The hotel's two buildings (or wings) were built on the corners of Ayala and Makati Avenues, after which they are named. In 1994, the hotel was renovated, with a new fountain and some of the hotel walls were painted with new colors.

The Manila Pen consists of two wings, which host all 497 rooms and suites.

In 2000, the hotel's fountain area, fronting the corner of Ayala and Makati Avenues, was the scene of Filipino singer Regine Velasquez for her performance of the country's millennial theme Written In The Sand together with 2,000 children, televised in 67 broadcast networks throughout the world to coincide with midnight in Manila for the BBC's millennium special 2000 Today.

The Manila Peninsula rebellion occurred on November 29, 2007. Detained Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, General Danilo Lim and other Magdalo officials walked out of their trial and marched through the streets of Makati, called for the ousting of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, and seized the second floor of The Peninsula Manila. Former Vice President Teofisto Guingona Jr. also joined the march to the hotel, as well as some of the soldiers from the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The siege was ended after the military stormed the lobby and the second floor where Rizal function room was located and Trillanes was seized.

The lobby of the hotel sustained much damage because of gunfire that rattled through its walls, windows and the main glass door was obliterated by an armored personnel carrier on the assault to serve Trillanes et al. their arrest warrants.

At first I thought this flower was showing a bit of wear because it was past its prime. Then I realized that close proximity to sharp thorns and inevitable winds have taken their toll.

The concentration camp Auschwitz was liberated by Russian troops on the 27th of January, 1945.

The photo shows a detail of the so-called Denkmal Güterbahnhof (freight station memorial) in Darmstadt, Germany.

The memorial was dedicated in 2004, in memory of the Jews and Sinti who were deported to the extermination camps from Darmstadt. In July 2006, the memorial was damaged by a violent attack by four male youths between 16 and 19 years of age, three sides of the glass cube were severely damaged. The memorial itself survived. The names of the people who were deported are engraved on the glass splinters (crystal night/night of the broken glass).

When entering Nassau, The Bahamas, I noticed this house that appeared to have been damaged by a hurricane.

The photo was taken from the deck of the Carnival Liberty.

Sun bleached photo. Bedouin woman, Egypt

Part of a JRC entry that never quite worked out.

Quite pleased with this bit though.

Both from an older shoot.
