Bristol's museum building received a direct hit in World War II. The bomb fell through the roof and exploded on the wing of an aircraft suspended from it which perhaps saved most of the building from more serious damage. Most of the scars have been covered up, but many exhibits were lost in the air raid. Here a vast bronze bell from a Chinese temple (circa mid C18th) exhibits a gaping shrapnel hole - although satisfyingly it missed the text.
Very little post-processing on this one. A high iso too and in dark conditions. most satisfactory. Pleased with the focus and the subtle DOF as much as I am with the composition of the strongly graphic elements.
I recently wasted some polaroids. Rather than bin them I decided to crumple, scratch, burn and scan them.

Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse
Rockland, Maine
April 2024
Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse sustained a good deal of damage during a severe storm in January 2024. We visited there in April of that year to check it out.
Photo taken with an Olympus OM-D E-M1 and M.Zuiko 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ.
Hey babe wait a minute stop
Don't run away don't call the cops
I ain't looking to victimise you
All I want to do is tantalise you
And I can tell by your face
I'm all over the place
I can tell by your face
Got no time for a Damage Case
The shrubs in front of the house simply couldn't handle the brutality of this storm. All other years, they've stayed green year round, even in below-freezing weather. But this time we saw temps as low as 5 degrees Fahrenheit and didn't get above freezing for eight straight days.
Read my blog entry for the full tale of our winter storm survival. In short: during historic record low temperatures and heavy winter precipitation (for this area), the power grid failed in Texas. We escaped to a hotel for several days, lost water pressure city-wide, and came out more fortunate than many.
An older Castle owned by the Destro family has sustained some damage recently and Destro and Voltar take a look around.
The Castle might not have much time left the building it was in front of has been torn down and there are already parts of it falling I noticed the other week and went out of my way to go get a few last pics there.
This house was shingled decades ago and some of the shingles have gotten damaged (probably from 3 house moves). I stained it about a month ago. It was unstained all these years.

This Whataburger building was severely damaged by a tornado on August 6, 2017 and was demolished on August 15, 2017. The restaurant was open and serving customers at the time that the tornado hit. The twenty-story building in the background, Remington Tower, was also seriously damaged. Unfit for occupancy, its future is uncertain now as structural engineers assess its condition.
The Whataburger building started out as a Burger Chef. When it was converted to Whataburger, the A-frame was added to give the building a signature Whataburger appearance.

UPDATE, April 23, 2019: KOTV news reported that site preparation has started for construction of the replacement Whataburger building. The report also stated that Whataburger has confirmed that the new building's construction has started. A projected opening date has not yet been announced.
2ND UPDATE: The replacement Whataburger opened on this site at 3:00 PM on July 29, 2019. At the time of opening, it became the largest Whataburger in Oklahoma.
Last week we had some Big Wind, an old-fashioned nor'easter, and the cemetery suffered many downed limbs. This one, big as a tree itself, came off a large old tree that appears to be rotting from the inside out.
Having suffered 'bizarre' localised 'vandalism' with 2 other buses stored outside in quite remote Lancashire 8325, MNC525W has moved to consolidate with other SELNEC vehicles in outside storage in East Manchester. We replaced the 4 lower deck broken windows with 2nd hand glass that we were going to skip as its etched and after the usual checks it fired up and moved no problem other than a very soft FNS tyre which was inflated, despite having gone up with the ERF B series wrecker the bus had no faults (surpirising as its been stood for a couple of years) and drove under its own power with the ERF following. The missing (kicked out) front upper window will be replaced shortly.
