Designed by Edward Turner was a 2547 cc V8 single overhead cam shaft with alloy push rods and a hemispheric aluminum head with a five bearing crank and an output of 140 bhp. Originally called a Daimler Dart the car made its debut at the 1959 New York Motorshow but following a threat of legal action from Chrysler's Dodge division that name was quickly dropped
The original a spec version was built on a 14 gauge ladder frame with cruciform bracing with optional bumpers and was capable of 120 mph however the chassis flex could cause the doors to open
Jaguar bought Daimler in 1960 and concerned about this flexing rushed out a B spec version with extra outriggers on the chassis and a stiffening hoop as well as other detailed improvements
A C spec followed in 1963 with more improvements. During its production run 2645 were produced. Jaguar did build a replacement prototype but opted not to put it into production and Ogle Design built a Coupe version which went on to become the Reliant Scimitar
This car is a B specification car, and one of twenty six used by the Metropolitan Police traffic division. It was for thirteen seasons Clerks of the Course car at Goodwood

Former Darlington Transport Daimler CCG5/Roe 4 304VHN is pictured outside the Co-op in the 1900's Town at Beamish being passed by the actually much newer replica 'B' Type B1349 (DET720D) which was bound for the Pit Village on November 24th 2024.
One of my personal favourite Lots in the Michael Banfield Auction held at Iden Grange , Staplehurst in June 2014. Acquired by him in 1966 , this B Type had been built for Daimler at the Walthamstow works of the Associated Equipment Company (AEC). It sold at Auction for £32,200.
Ten Roberts bodied Daimler CVD6 buses were ordered by Colchester Corporation but they took delivery of only five in the Spring of 1949 - the remaining five were diverted to other operators. The last one in service, number 4, OHK 432 was withdrawn in 1968. Roberts body builders were more commonly associated with railway vehicles and occasional trams. Their body for the CDV6 was about half a ton heavier than most buses of similar size. The higher fuel consumption that the heavier body incurred may have been a contributory factor in the cancellation of the second batch of five.
OHK 432 was part of the preserved bus shuttle service provided by the Lincolnshire Road Transport Museum (and private owners) for those wishing to visit Lincoln town centre during the museum's open day yesterday.

For twenty years Northampton standardised on Roe-bodied CVG6s and by the late sixties the fleet included nothing else. New in October 1968, number 267 was not only the last one delivered to Northampton but also the very last half-cab Daimler for a UK operator. The Corporation's next purchases were of very different Daimlers, twenty single-deck Fleetlines for one man operation, of which none survive. In view of its significance 267 was retained for many years as a heritage vehicle but is now preserved privately; it had been away from the rally scene for some time but reappeared in its home town for the 2009 Heritage Weekend with fresh paint.
A Daimler Fleetline in the Ulster Transport Museum - I've seen a few of these go up in smoke over the years - nice have to still have one to bring back memories.
Carris' fleet included a handful of underfloor-engined British-built single deckers too. Their representative in the Carris museum collection is no. 78, a Daimler CVU6LX.
There's not a lot of Coventry labour in this particular Daimler, however. The CVU6LXs, which arrived in 1967 along with some rather similar AEC Reliances, were actually Guy Victorys bearing Daimler badging. New with only 18 seats as a bit of an experiment in multi-standing single deckers, they were apparently rather unpopular as such. Nonetheless they had long lives and were eventually upseated to a more comfortable 26 seat layout in the 1980s. This one lasted until 1991 before withdrawal. Carris would go single deck in a big way from 1975, but using rear-engined products from Sweden, Germany and Italy rather than the UK.

Lawson in 1896, which set up its manufacturing base in Coventry. The company bought the right to the use of the Daimler name simultaneously from Gottlieb Daimler and Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft of Cannstatt, Germany. After early financial difficulty and a reorganization of the company in 1904, the Daimler Motor Company was purchased by Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA) in 1910, which also made cars under its own name before World War II. In 1933, BSA bought the Lanchester Motor Company and made it a subsidiary of Daimler.
HVH 472D ex Huddersfield Corporation, Daimler CVG6LX-30, aquired by new owners in 2010 and was used on the service between the Meadowhall Rally site and the South Yorkshire Transport Museum at Aldwarke, very impressive bus.

Excellent replica Daimler bus, recently re-painted into correct Northern General Transport Co livery, and now fitted with solid tyre wheels, in service at Beamish Open Air Museum, County Durham.

New to SELNEC in 1971 this Daimler Fleetline CRG6LXB has the Park Royal Mancunian H47/29D body and was another visitor to the Alderidge Open Day.

Daimler was the preferred car of the British monarchy from the time King Edward II first rode in one in 1896 through the mid-1950s. This 17-foot-long and 7 1/2 foot-tall Hooper-built limousine was one of eight Daimlers acquired by King George V of England between 1909 and 1924. Powered by a 9.4-liter 6-cylinder Knight sleeve-valve engine that produced 57 horsepower.
Another day, another Daimler!
Only this one is outshopped in a pleasing black and cream livery. The chauffeur for the hotel that owns this car, a very sweet man, was kind enough to let me open the door and take a look inside too!
Apparently this car was formerly the property of the Queen Mother, but we had trouble determining the date, although the composite bumpers would place it in the region of the early 1980's.
