The 36th King Alfred Running Day took place on May Day bank holiday 2019. The event is based in Winchester and attracts around 40 buses and coaches operating a large number of routes throughout the day.
This year I took some photos in Hursley, Otterbourne, Sutton Scotney and Winchester, although I did avoid the extremely busy Broadway terminus.
Another piece of automotive art from the Mosfilm Retro Museum. More on it on 888-photo.com/daimler-ds420/.

Some of Daimler's cars used an unusual engine with sleeve valves. Designed by Charles Knight, the engine was so quiet they called it 'The Silent Knight'.

Standing on the town street at Beamish Museum is a 1964 Roe-bodied, Gardner-engined Daimler CCG5 registered 304 VHN, in Darlington Corporation livery.
The bus was new to Darlington Corporation as Fleet No.4 and was one of a batch of twelve similar vehicles purchased that year. This one was withdrawn in 1981 and is widely reported as being the last dual crewed bus in Darlington. (In fact dual crews returned briefly to Darlington using ex-Nottingham Fleetlines)
The bus is also unusual in that it has a "Gardner 100" badge below the front radiator grille. It appears to have always carried this badge, but it is the only bus that I can find that does so, and certainly the only one of the 1964 Darlington batch.

One of a batch of 40+ photos that I hadn’t uploaded with the others from that month!
Similar to a Series II Jaguar XJ6. Steve owned this for a short while, It was his Dad's car. It had 2 fuel tanks so must have cost a lot in fuel. He changed it for a 2-Litre Ford Capri.
I took this photograph at the roundabout that at one time stood at the junction of the A6 and Cross Lane in Pendleton which was my vantage point for the Lancashire Automobile club's annual Manchester to Blackpool Veteran and Vintage Car Run in June 1966. It's an 1897 Daimler 4hp Twin-Cylinder Tonneau, but I have no further information about the car or the owner as I no longer have the programme of the event.
Known for Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft (Daimler Motors Corporation, DMG)
Gottlieb Wilhelm Daimler (17 March 1834 – 6 March 1900) was an engineer, industrial designer and industrialist born in Schorndorf (Kingdom of Württemberg, a federal state of the German Confederation), in what is now Germany. He was a pioneer of internal-combustion engines and automobile development. He invented the high-speed liquid petroleum-fuelled engine.
Daimler and his lifelong business partner Wilhelm Maybach were two inventors whose goal was to create small, high-speed engines to be mounted in any kind of locomotion device. In 1883 they designed a horizontal cylinder layout compressed charge liquid petroleum engine that fulfilled Daimler's desire for a high speed engine which could be throttled, making it useful in transportation applications. This engine was called Daimler's Dream.
In 1885 they designed a vertical cylinder version of this engine which they subsequently fitted to a two-wheeler, the first internal combustion motorcycle which was named the Petroleum Reitwagen (Riding Car) and, in the next year, to a coach, and a boat. Daimler called this engine the grandfather clock engine (Standuhr) because of its resemblance to a large pendulum clock.
In 1890, they converted their partnership into a stock company Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft (DMG, in English—Daimler Motors Corporation). They sold their first automobile in 1892. Daimler fell ill and took a break from the business. Upon his return he experienced difficulty with the other stockholders that led to his resignation in 1893. This was reversed in 1894. Maybach resigned at the same time, and also returned. In 1900 Daimler died and Wilhelm Maybach quit DMG in 1907.

Although the Matchbox version was mass produced as a pocket money toy, they captured the look of the DMS very well.
I'm assuming this is a Series II due to the chrome bumpers and hub caps. It's probably sat on this driveway after its accident for a couple of decades.

A narrow gauge locomotive like this one, with Daimler V2 engine, was used in 1892 for an exhibition train in the Viennese Prater. The unit on display contenued to be used for freight transport on dedicated narrow gauge railroad lines until 1918.
This colour slide only came to light recently, it shows the Birmingham Daimlers that were retained for snow plough duties to replace the previous Daimler COG 5 vehicles. They were Daimler CVG6 fitted with MCW H54R bodies and dated from 1947, fleet numbers 1628 & 1586. Having been regarded as surplus they await the scrap dealer, the picture is from 1974 at Quinton garage.

This one off Daimler Corsica was motorshow car to celebrate 100 rs of Daimler and show off Jaguar's skills, built by SVO over 18 months and completed in 1996 it was no more than a dressed shell, adapted from a four door X300 with no mechanicals or electrics other than the motor and hydraulics for the hood which was just placed in the spare wheel well, and a battery to power it, the hood was a modified Audi A4 item. it was envisaged that it might run one day so it was built properly with appropriate strengthening.
The interior is unique to this car, made up of adapted XJS and XK8 seating and hand made trim panels..
The name is taken from 1930's coachbuilder Corsica who produced bodies on Daimler chassis.
In January 2006 David Marks Garages, Jaguar specialists, sponsored by the JEC took on the job of transfoming it to a road going car which involved totally stripping it and starting again.
The engine, a straight six 4.0L AJ16 was the one originally earmarked for the converted car, the axles and wiring were also supplied with it. .
Much modification and ingenuity was needed to install everything into the unique shell. for instance the lower part of the fuel filler neck had to be made to meet the unique tank, a Series II XJ6 chrome tailpipe was just the job !
Many parts had to be sourced, even some from a scrap donor, and of course what was fitted already was totally unique and irreplaceable needing great care, especially the interior trim, door cards etc which needed modification to accept wiring..
After 400 hours work It had a VIN made up, passed it's MOT then needed SVA as it's a one off. It is now registered P300 COR and is with the JDHT..
I saw the car at a motor show when it was just a prop but it can now be seen attending many shows and promotions across the country.
The car is very precious as it shares almost nothing with its X300 basis save a few panels.
