My lady wanted to give this lap quilt away but it so reminded me of Nebraska from 38,000 feet on a hazy Summer day, I said, "It's mine!" I call it "Nebraska" :)
(Nebraska, as well as the neighboring Central Plains States, are all marked out in perfect rectangles. There also are many round fields where fields are watered by huge irrigation systems.)
My mom doesn't like to sit around while others work. She threw herself into helping out with dinner prep. She took to wearing a head band to deal with sweating from the heat.
I took a lot of pictures of life at Naam's place (Mother Naam's) and with her kids. It was such a wonderful place. The atmosphere was full of love, happiness, cooperation, sharing, playfulness, kid energy, family ties -- just a great place to be.
We were in Sangkhlaburi from Saturday, February 2nd to Friday, February 22.
For the 2013 Spring Festival holiday time we went to Thailand again (Jan 30 - Feb 27).
This visit was primarily to spend time with our friend, Naam, and meet the 20+ children she cares for close to the Thai-Burmese (Myanmar) border in Sangkhlaburi.

Choice And Selection
I love the new dress
so bright and fun
it thrills me to see
It's not just about the dress itself
although it is wonderful
it is the expression it represents
the choice made
providing an inner happiness
a desire to be happy about something, anything, anything at all
It says “this is me”
expressed through something pretty, colorful and thoughtful
manifesting your essence through your choices
It is the art of being
embracing the act of selection and embracing your own uniqueness
In this seemingly ordinary and mundane act lies something so simple yet so complex
a beauty that radiates outward
This one came to me as an odd idea. I was thinking about women, the selection of clothing and the amount of thought that goes into appearance. I also thought about Quasimodo and John Merrick the Elephant Man. These tragic men. They can see beauty and fall in love but no matter what words they say, women will always be repulsed. Heartbreaking.

The bark peels pretty easily, but it likes to hold on in places, and it does need to be pried off. I found this metal wire brush in my drill press at a fast speed - maybe 1200RPM - cleaned the logs of their bug-eaten bark and bug waste layers pretty rapidly.

To reinforce these batteries, three new 6-inch batteries were also built. Battery Harry J. Harrison at Bolsa Chica, Battery Barnes at Long Point, and Battery 241 located on the Upper Reservation. These guns were protected by 6-inch thick “teardrop” shaped metal shields, and looked like they would be more at home on a warship rather than on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Additionally, more than a dozen 90mm and 37mm guns were installed around the harbor area. As these new weapons were installed, the older guns were deactivated and shortly after 1945, all of Fort MacArthur’s big guns were cutup for scrap. Fort MacArthur continued to serve as an induction and separation center throughout the 1940s and 1950s
One of the things I love about being able to find logs and resaw them myself is the discovery. I take pictures of the find, wonder about it while transporting it, bring home leaves and branches - if any - and use them to hunt the species down online, which I've gotten rather good at. Another thing I love is that a few logs can yield quite a lot of useful pieces, which means that I get to practice on several before doing something for keeps, and it means I get to try out a variety of finishes on the end piece, to see what works best. This is such a valuable ability.
