Choice And Selection
I love the new dress
so bright and fun
it thrills me to see
It's not just about the dress itself
although it is wonderful
it is the expression it represents
the choice made
providing an inner happiness
a desire to be happy about something, anything, anything at all
It says “this is me”
expressed through something pretty, colorful and thoughtful
manifesting your essence through your choices
It is the art of being
embracing the act of selection and embracing your own uniqueness
In this seemingly ordinary and mundane act lies something so simple yet so complex
a beauty that radiates outward
This one came to me as an odd idea. I was thinking about women, the selection of clothing and the amount of thought that goes into appearance. I also thought about Quasimodo and John Merrick the Elephant Man. These tragic men. They can see beauty and fall in love but no matter what words they say, women will always be repulsed. Heartbreaking.

I got the call from Camille early this morning. She said her gardener had told her she should just let me cut up the tree. I rushed over before work and began cutting. I could not get through the biggest stuff, and after loading the truck entirely, there was still all of this remaining. I will be heading back at lunch to try to pick up another load, and then after work, hopefully for another. I'd really like to get the main trunk bits for some very large pieces, but I don't know how that'll pan out. I probably need to rent a larger chainsaw, or let the city cut it up, and hope I meet with them in time, and that they don't mind me taking the pieces.
Might also need help lifting them. Even the smaller branches - 8" diameter, 3'-4' long, were incredibly heavy. This is a very wet tree.

To reinforce these batteries, three new 6-inch batteries were also built. Battery Harry J. Harrison at Bolsa Chica, Battery Barnes at Long Point, and Battery 241 located on the Upper Reservation. These guns were protected by 6-inch thick “teardrop” shaped metal shields, and looked like they would be more at home on a warship rather than on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Additionally, more than a dozen 90mm and 37mm guns were installed around the harbor area. As these new weapons were installed, the older guns were deactivated and shortly after 1945, all of Fort MacArthur’s big guns were cutup for scrap. In a book by the same name, William S. Burroughs and Brion Gysin use the term 'the third mind' to describe the collaborative process. This is the idea that the interaction of two minds produces a temporary third entity, one capable of producing things that neither of the two individuals would be able to create alone. And here we find ourselves on Flickr, sharing our photos with our contacts, our groups and the world, collaborating all the time – some consciously, some unconsciously, but all reacting in some way to one another’s work.
In our group pools and our 'new photos from your contacts' e-mails, we generate sort of a visual form of an avant-garde textual technique that Burroughs called the 'cut-up'. This technique takes a text stream – originally a single printed page – and physically divides it into multiple sections. Next, one or more additional text streams are divided in the same manner. Finally, the pieces are jumbled and pieced back together in a random order as a third text stream. Sections of Burroughs’ most famous work, Naked Lunch, use this technique. As Burroughs and Gysin described it, the cut-up creates a new context with new possibilities that wouldn't have existed otherwise.
How often, I wonder, does that sort of thing influence our collective efforts? Every thirty minutes or so, many of us on Flickr receive an e-mail message with links to our contacts' most recent uploads. This pulse of artistic expression is specific to the relationships we've made and tightly coupled to the individuals whose work is meaningful to us. And likewise, the groups to which we choose to belong are constantly changing with an influx of new visual information. In being added to a group or a ‘new photos’ e-mail, each photo is disconnected from its original context and placed into an entirely different context with a new set of possible meanings.

There's a really neat translucent marble quality to the wood. I don't know how well that holds up as it dries. This is very green.
this was my final project for my first year of my film photography class. i took a ton of pictures at different angles of the alley, printed them all, cut them up, and put them together to make one single image. it took forever!
