Figure sculpt update for 3/18/22 -

Migraines took me out periodically over the the past couple weeks...those of you that suffer them know what I'm talking about. Unfortunate reason for the delay but feeling much better now

Update of Jedi Dass Jennir from the Dark Horse Comics series Dark Times (Out of the Wilderness arc). I finished sculpting the hair, arms, chest and back. Next comes the details to the belt and his holster. I have to sculpt it in such a way where articulation won't be hindered when positioning him on his steed. I'd rather the figure not be built on a parts swapping gimmick but worse case scenario, I sculpt a second lower body of his legs in a static sitting position and forget about it. It's more work but it's a personal project so why not? We'll see.

Next up is progress made on the bounty hunter Falco Sang from the same series. I finished sculpting his upper body along with detailing to the front and back of his chest harness/gun holster. The actual holsters themselves are being sculpted separately and will be attached in such a way as not to impede on the arm articulation. I have a couple ideas on how to accomplish that. Also working on custom weapons seen in the comic using some Marauder GR weapons I purchased a few years back along with some various Star Wars themed weapondry.

Finally sculpt progress made on the Bounty Hunter of Ord Mantell, Skorr. This character comes from the classic Marvel comics strip of the same title. Body sculpt build is complete, and I’ve started sculpting the boots which will be shown in a future update. Starting from the bottom, up and will add some additional articulation as I go forward. The frame was originally a Boss Fight Studio Spartan and has worked very well for this build so far.

That’s it for now! As of this update, I was able to get some additional sculpt work completed so I’m shooting those updates now and will have that up soon. Just didn’t want too much time to go by without an update.

Hope you enjoy and thanks again for your continued interest and support for my work. ❤

Sculpt progress on the Neomorph - 1:18 scale - Alien:Covenant

Tabled for a few weeks while I got started on a few others projects but back at it over the weekend focusing on the mouth. I have mentioned that I plan to do variants of this head sculpt (open mouth, closed, concept etc) and decided it would be easier to build the variants if I was to sculpt the open mouth first than to try to do it vice-versa.

Sculpt is based on concept art by Colvin Shulver. Find his work on ArtStation. www.artstation.com/artwork/bxJYo as well as the build work from Odd Studio

First was to drill and clear out a cavity for the mouth's opening, then build up the mandible, allow to cure, then the tongue and upper jaw.

Using Aves FIXIT for the build (Aves Studio LLC). Added a dime to give a sense of scale for the piece. The teeth are still being refined. I hope to have the head sculpted and reduce the ear openings a bit on my next go. More to come!!! #alien #aliens #aliencovenant #neomorph #oddstudio #concept #miniature #customactionfigure #monsters #sculpture

8.7.21 - Sculpt update for the "Tropical Rainforest" Concept creature for both A New Hope and Dark Horse Comics, Knights of the Old Republic and Gribbet the Bounty Hunter from the Archie Goodwin, Al Williamson comic series, Star Wars: The Bounty Hunter of Ord Mantell. 1:18 scale.

Had several weeks of personal tasks to deal with that took me from my sculpt time but here we are again, back to it. This represents only a few days of work so bear with me while I accumulate more hours of work to show significant progress in the future.

Simplest update first, Gribbet. Currently filling out the bodywork. Detailed sculpting will follow soon. Some would question why I don't simply begin sculpting the detail directly on the plastic frame..I feel this way helps with building proportion.

Next, the Tropical Rainforest concept for Star Wars: A New Hope. I have a torso built up but nothing of any detail yet. Began sculpting some of the leaves that will assist in the figure's stance. Right now they are being held in place by some wax clay and a temporary stand I made from one of my earlier ideas that didn't fly. I'd love the idea of some transparency in the floral extremities but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Finally, the Revwien pilot from Dark Horse Comics series Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Continued work on the arm detail. Finishing up the upper sleeves to the shoulders. Also added the finger-like protrusions. I'm not sure if these extend from the arms to grip items or used in some sort of "anti-grav" manipulation...who knows? I look at this as being an exo-suit to the plant-like body beneath. Added some additional details to the head as well.

I need to find the time to order some molding and casting supplies and get some of these original sculpts replicated for tooling alternative sculpts and paint.

More to come! Thinking of sneaking in some ALIEN work in the next update. Have some monsters that are getting their undies in a wad waiting to be updated LOL!

Thanks again for the kind words and continued interest in my work!

1/6 Custom Action Figure

Finally completed the 1:18 scaled action figure build of yours truley sporting a Nostromo styled EVA suit. Had to do some readjustments of the articulation points. Now that's it's finished, trying to decide what color scheme the suit shall be. Suggestions? I was thinking a dirty orange/brown or black/grays. ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎nostromo‬ ‪#‎EVA‬ ‪#‎selfportrait‬ ‪#‎customactionfigure‬

Summer and Sam hit it off right away so I thought I'd do a little photo shoot of them together.

This is my favorite. I'm vary happy with the way he has turned out. I am still adjusting to the added articulation. I'm used to dealing with Barbie Ken and FR dolls. I considered purchasing some female action figures but I have yet to see one that I like!

Picked up some pretty awesome figures called Morphonauts at Fan X - all the limbs and accessories have metal joints that attach via the magnetic torso. Thanks for the unique figures Bo!

I'm starting a new project customizing a BVS Superman action figure! The main reason for this is simple! Although I really like the BVS figure as a show piece also wanted to add a figure to my collection to be used in doll and action figure comics and stories! The BVS Superman however is very bulky and posing is limited! My plan is to customize a figure that falls somewhere between the MOS Superman and the BVS Superman! This may be a complete failure but I hope to at least learn some things from this process! The first step was to remove the suit and take a look at the body structure!

So basically, this figure uses the MOS body with added prosthetic pieces on the thighs and lats! The body is also painted silver! The figures ankles and foot pegs are shorter! Many complained about the height of the MOS figure because he wasn't compatible with other Hot Toys 1/6th figures!

The suit is made of a pliable synthetic material that is fairly elastic and fits the figure like a glove! It's also somewhat sheer so that the silver body beneath can be seen giving the suit a kind of sheen!

I'll continue chronicling my progress as I go and hopefully I won't completely embarrass myself with a big fat fail!

Happy weekend everyone! Took a group shot of some of the 3.75" figure work I'm building right now - you'll notice some new additions, older projects breathing new life. I'll do a breakdown of these future works in an upcoming update coming soon. Sculpt progress on the "Egg Morpher" Xenomorph - Alien: Defiance (Dark Horse Comics) - 1:18 scale.

Another set of images showing progression. The last image is the latest (late last night). Sculpting with Aves FIXIT.

Two things I plan to change - the ribbing just below the carapace needs to be thinned out, and the vertebral segments at the back of the head needs to have a higher arc.

The creature is unexplained..which is intriguing to me because I don't need to know a reason for it's existence. It's depiction in the comic is something out of nightmares (read the comic series, you'll understand).More to come! #alien #aliens #nostromo #darkhorsecomics #xenomorph #eggmorphing #sculpting #customactionfigure #miniature #avesstudio

Thats right folks, Straight from the 1978 TV movie based on Marvel Comics, Sorcerer Supreme, and starring Peter Hooten, comes McKenzie McKustoms latest labor of love, Doctor Strange! The good Doctor is constructed on a type 2 repro body, featuring a cape from a Paco Wrestling figure, a CTVT bodysuit i modified to resemble the final costume Hooten wears in the film with a few exceptions...No Disco slacks!! Instead, I made the costume all one piece like his comic book costume. the costume is adorned with his Captain Marvel style chest logo, i made with a white clothing repair patch, gauntlets, and his belt with hand sculpted belt buckle i made using Apoxie Sculpt. the head is from a CTVT Space 1999 figure I thought resembled Hooten, i just gave him blue eyes and added the porn stache. There you have it guys! I hope you enjoy

Due to the way the license is set up, NECA wasn't allowed to make a straight 7" figure of Michael Keaton's Batman portrayal from 1989. The only way they could do it is to paint it in the old NES video game colors. I decided to change it and repaint the entire thing to look like the movie. This involved taking apart the entire figure, including removing the head from inside the cowl (yes there's a full Michael Keaton face under there). All the pieces were prepped, and then painted. I even put detailing in the face, including the black makeup around the eyes. For the cape, I dediced to do something extra. I took some black rayon material, and used a movie accurate cape pattern to make it. I then made a second cape, and added some wires running through the top for Batman to hold in his hands outstretched to mimic when he first appears in the movie. And now this custom Batman 1989 action figure is ready to take down the criminals of Gotham City!

The clay was incredibly easy to work with.

The Shining retro figure was a 3 way collaboration between myself and two other toy makers.

I contributed an original head sculpt made from scratch by hand in polymer clay. Durobo cast the heads in resin, created the bodies and axe. Nekosatsu_Toys provided the collector friendly packaging.

Sculpt progress on the 1:18 scaled Space Jockey - ALIEN 1979.

Sculpt material used - Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Clay

So I'm only a couple of hours sculpt time to completing the back on the Space Jockey! I am currently working on the piping that is located behind the head of the creature.

Completed the sculpt to the other side and I'm happy with how it all balanced out. Took a couple of adjustments which meant sanding down a cured area and sculpting over but that's the name of the game when working with epoxy. Glad that's over with! :)

When the back is done, I plan to begin working on the front of the Jockey, where the eventual "cannon" will connect. I will take a break however and work on other projects that need attention (including some alien work).

I hope you all enjoy the updated images and for all you Alien fans out there, I hope you had a GREAT ALIEN DAY!

Sculpt progress to the Alien Queen - ALIENS - 1:18 scale.

Completed the carapace (crown) of the Queen...next step iis the head. Three versions of the head sculpt come to mind ...

1. Docile, as she appeared when Ripley first discovered her, having the head tucked up into the carapace.

2. Teeth shown, mouth closed.

3. Mouth opened.

Think that should cover it :).

Am still considering a hinged jaw variant if I can make it work. We'll see. Hope you enjoy the new images!!!

Also need to begin thinking about how the heck I'm gonna cast this thing!!!

Sculpt update on The Queen - Aliens (86) - and the Egg Morpher - Aliens: Defiance - Dark Horse Comics. Both 1:18 scale.

The Queen

Completed the rough sculpt of the lower mandible and teeth. The lower mandible is a skeletal sculpt for the moment while I adjust and refine the teeth. After the lower teeth are complete, flesh detail will be added to the mandible.

The teeth are being sculpted on a separate pallet, so when completed can have a mold made and cast in clear resin. The teeth are individually sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt, a two-part epoxy from Aves Studio LLC. Once cured, I've begun refining each using dental tools and fine-grit sandpaper. Hope to have them at a full shine similar to the top set of teeth soon.

I still have to sculpt the gum line for the lower teeth and the pallet will eventually be set deeper into the lower mandible than what you see here. Many adjustments will be made after castings are made. Then additional casts will be made.

Do the top and bottom teeth line up? Close but not really - not too concerned with that since my sculpt will feature multiple head sculpts and not a jointed jaw. So perfect alignment isn't a priority here...although I will do my best to get it as close as possible before making molds.

The Egg Morpher

Began filling the detail to the back "pipes" of the beast. I've also begun the sculpt of the creature's hands which will be very similar to the Giger Alien hands but larger. The rough sculpt right now resemble Bugs Bunny gloves and not that of the nightmarish xenomorph but no worries, that will all change....just how I work.

Hope you enjoyed the updates!!! Trying to get an update knocked out each week. If not, every other week for sure with updates in between.

Questions are welcome! Thanks again!

Sculpt progress on The Queen - ALIENS 86 - 1:18 scale.

Plastic casting test on the head/jaw build. Rough test, nothing cleaned up or painted.

I used Smooth-On Smooth Cast 320. I do plan in casting the teeth in a transparent plastic eventually.

I've been molding and casting several pieces to my build over the past week or so and have taken some shots of the successes. Surprisingly everything turned out great for the exception of the Alien Warrior mold which I had to redo. More on that one later.

Here is a plastic casing of the four components to create the Alien Queen head and jaw. This is one of several variants that will be made to "plug and play" into the Queen's carapace.

I put one together using some of the initial pulls to get an idea how it will all work. Happy with the results. Next step will be moving onto the neck and variant head sculpts.

Comments/questions welcome! Hope you enjoy! More to come soon!

The Batmobile (Jada Toys 1:18 scale)

Sculpt update on various projects...

- 1:18 scale Newborn from Alien: Resurrection

- 1:18 scale Egg Layer Xenomorph from Aliens: Defiance

- 1:18 scale "The Beast" from ALIEN (79)

and a couple more images from the 1:18 scale Sleep Chamber (NOSTROMO) project.

For the Newborn and the Egg Layer Xenomorph, it's all about hands. I've created the frames for the hands I will be sculpting this week. For the Egg Layer Xeno, I want to sculpt a "neutral" hand which is nothing more than an enlarged version of the original ALIEN 79 hand so that will be fun.

For the ALIEN 79 "Beast"...I am happy with what I have done with the figure but I see where improvements can be made. The head sculpt has never been 100% for me...and I think with a little tweaking I can get it there. I'm also thickening the lower abdomen sculpt as its proportion to the upper rib cage is a tad overblown. I'll post a separate update to explain all that later.

Finally, I wanted to shoot a couple more images of Parker from the Sleep Chamber build just to get a couple more shots of that hand before I sculpt over it with another one. LOL!..and I shot another image of Ripley because it was just there. LOL! This was the shot Ridley wanted but the production company thought nudity (although logical in this circumstance) would limit the number of people that would see the film so he chose the alternative (the ridiculous bands across the chest) that didn't see the light of day anyway! LOL!

OK! See? I'm still kickin' out updates! LOL! I hope you all are safe and doing as well as you can with the current state of things. Hope my little updates can break up some of the monotony out there.

Thanks for looking! More to come!
