I'm currently doing some work with for the Up on the Downs/Let Them Speak For Themselves project. The aim is to update the work of the Defence of Britain Project to get a current record of the 20th Century Defences around Dover and Folkestone
Here are the sites I have so far look at, photographed and recorded the status of on the Western Heights area of Dover
I'll add better descriptions when I get a chance....
These little 3x5" notebooks are great for everything from grocery lists to deep thots. I got the idea for carrying these from a Leonardo quote in a Crumb comic. Kerouac also used to carry these around to write down thots and poems.
Once yoo start using these, you'll wonder how yoo got by without them.
current project in my spare time, to relocate this sink ( from my collection) to this spot , hmmmmm, there has'nt been a sink here since 1935, i mustopen up the drain, drill new holes for supply thru 18" concrete, and redo the missing tiles & the mortar & plasterwork , then brush the orig wall color, all after my day job ( i love this work_
its an unpredicatble process- this one was trying to be one of my fancy floral pieces, and utterly failed. Still, I did like the result.
(Post 3/4) Continuing my story from the previous posts: Our guide Nino showed us around the rochinha favela, walking through the little alleys and even riding on one of the many taxi motorbikes (as you can see in the picture here) that takes you to the top of the favela, giving you a beautiful panoramic view of Rio De Janeiro and the favela. Nino also took his time to explain the current situation with the police and also highlighted that we would know if there is any raid or conflict in the favela through fireworks that is used to alert people to avoid that area.

That's my third day in Kaunas, my first time online!
My current flat for about two weeks is on the left, on the right starts the 1.6 km long pedestrian zone called Laisvés aléja.

My mother is downsizing and this hall stand won’t fit in her new apartment. This will be the first time she has moved, she arrived here with Dad when the house was new in 1968. Dad passed in 2019. She’s now 82 and she feels the time is right. This hall stand was made by my Grandfather sometime in the 1950’s - he owned a woodworking business in Leicester. It was originally stained a dark colour, as was the style at the time. Dad painted it white, but never completed it due to his health deteriorating. I'll finish the job at some point.
Here is it in place at our house. Could have been made to fit.

Swift Current 2018 Windscape Kite festival. Light winds with an 8 foot Rokkaku lifting 1Kg rig and still had to walk a quick pace.

2) Named after the Famous American gymnast Holly Vise who is the 2003 world Uneven Bars champion
3) Name "stems" from the European Mountain flower, Edelweiss. I wanted to stick with the flower theme.
Work Done
1) Hair treatment

5) Carved Nose, Mouth, and Philtrum
6) removed stock make up, MSC Matte Sprayed, BUT retained the stock Freckles
7) Chalk pastels applied around the eyes
8) eyebrows created with a mixture of chalk pastels and water color pencils
9) my Opalescent porous skin technique applied to the final coat
10) Realistic lips made with chalk pastels and Acrylic paint, then sealed with gloss varnish
11) outfit hand sewn by me. it is also lined with 100% cotton Polkadot fabric to keep the inside nice and neat
the dress it self is a mixture of cotton, brown pleather, and off the rack trim
the hat sports the same daisy fabric and a brown felt embossed with paisleys

Alumni and current students gathered on Saturday April 13, 2013 at the original Wake Forest campus in Wake Forest, NC for a day of tradition and fellowship.
Empower Women to Counter Terrorism
Erbil, 03 August 2015 – “Women can be powerful poles for positive change and participate in innovative efforts to inform, shape and implement policies and programs to mitigate the effects of conflict and violent radicalization”, said Gyorgy Busztin, Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (DSRSG), at the opening of the two-day National Conference on ‘Empowering Women to Address the Impact of Terrorism’.
The Conference, which brings together key government and United Nations officials, religious leaders, civil society representatives, and representatives of the international community, is jointly organized by the UN, the State Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the Kurdistan Region’s High Council of Women’s Affairs.
The conference will focus on the impact of violent extremism and terrorism on Iraqi women and girls, particularly those from minorities’ communities; empowering women to counter radicalization and combat terrorism; participation of women in social cohesion and reconciliation; creating opportunities to enhance women’s representation and participation in power and decision-making; the role of the media and the internet in countering extremism; effective partnering in implementing frameworks on women, peace and security; and the role of women in building peace.
Moreover, the Conference builds on the regional conference “Women’s Resistance to Extremism and Terrorism and their Struggle for Rights, Peace and Security”, held in May 2015 in Erbil and on the endorsement of the Special Emergency Plan on the Implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325 by the Council of Ministers in May as well. The Special Emergency Plan takes into consideration the impact of the current fight against ISIL on women, peace and security.
“Iraq is particularly well placed to host this conference, being the first country in the Middle East and North Africa region to have a National Action Plan to implement SCR 1325”, said DSRSG Busztin, while underscoring that “within families, women’s traditional roles allow them to shape familial and social norms and promote increased tolerance and non-violent political and civic engagement”.
“Countering terrorism policies need to take into account how terrorism impacts women and to ensure that they do not lead to negative and unintended consequences on women”, he stressed.
It is expected that the conference will adopt a set of recommendations outlining key actions to advance the women, peace and security agenda; ensure women participation in countering terrorism efforts; and prevent and respond to sexual violence in conflict.
The conference is a response to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2178 of September 2014, which called for the first time for the empowerment of women to counter violent extremism.
