Our everyday life is can often be described as a flow, that is constantly taking us forward. We pass by places, things and people, leaving our memories and experiences behind and we sometimes don’t have an opportunity to stand up, stop and look around or behind ourselves, to see all the way, all the traces, the inanimate witnesses, that silently remember us passing by. In this photo series I sought to slow down, disconnect myself from the motion and look back, look up and down. I moved to the sides and touched the objects, had a closer look at them, inspected the marks, textures and lines, tried to observe them back and seek for the clues for the stories they had witnessed.

In progress- now I have to wait 1-2 weeks for it to dry so I can add another glaze.

Fans of the Poldark series will recognise the mines at Botallack, Cornwall and wonder at the nerve of the miners who built their mines on the side of the cliff.

This is my version of the French roses pattern. I found the quilt and was inspired to make a quilt. This one is done entirely with fabrics I had on hand, both stash and scraps. If it turns out nice, it will become a quilt that I donate to Margaret's Hope Chest. I hope to do a baby girl quilt in this pattern next, but only if this one turns out ok. The abstract floral and leaf shapes are raw edged appliques and will fray up and be soft like a rag quilt after being washed. The lighting my sewing room is really bad on this snowy day. The background fabric is white Kona. Update February 18: I have this top completely put together. I need to come up with a backing before I can quilt it.

Current work is under way to extend the light rail from Lilyfield to Dulwich Hill

By midnight tonight it will have rained about 2 inches here in Hillsboro, Oregon. This image is from the Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve weather system located about 1 mile from my home.

I see that it is Full Moon night, but much too cloudy for a look.

Currently working on a updated version of my Great Hall. This version is built to represent the castle as seen in the Philosophers stone and Chamber of secrets. The main difference on the castle in the first two movies is the inclusion of the entrance hall. Later this was removed in favor of the courtyard. So far the interior of the great hall is 90% finished while the entrance hall and cellars have yet to get an interior.

I'm also trying out a different design for the rock work. This as my previous design, while nice, is severely parts-intensive. With this design I hope to still have a nice looking mountain side while keeping the parts count resonable (note that it's not 100% done, more details will be added!).

Pahoehoe lava in the Holocene of Idaho, USA.

Southern Idaho’s Snake River Plain represents the track of the Yellowstone Hotspot. Yellowstone is currently located in northwestern Wyoming. In the geologic past, the center of Yellowstone volcanism was in southern Idaho, and before that, it was located in southeastern Oregon.

Eight large, distinctive, dark-colored lava fields cover portions of the modern Snake River Plain: Shoshone Lava Field, Craters of the Moon Lava Field, Wapi Lava Field, Kings Bowl Lava Field, Cerro Grande Lava Field, North Robbers Lava Field, South Robbers Lava Field, and Hell’s Half Acre Lava Field. These lavas erupted during the late Pleistocene and Holocene, well after the Yellowstone Hotspot “migrated” to the northeast. The lavas are so young that little vegetation covers them. Portions of the Snake River Plain's basaltic lava fields have been designated as Craters of the Moon National Monument. The flows & cones in the Craters of the Moon Lava Field range in age from ~15 ka to ~2 ka. The landscape is harshly beautiful and provides an excellent opportunity to closely examine terrestrial basalt volcanism.

Seen here is a portion of the Blue Dragon Flow, which erupted from Big Craters, a cinder cone complex ~between Inferno Cone and North Crater Cinder Cone. A little over 2,000 years ago, Big Craters erupted basalt and hawaiite lava, which spread out, cooled, and solidified. Hawaiite is an alkaline variety of basalt. Lava flow top morphologies range from aa to pahoehoe - these terms are Hawaiian in origin. Aa lava has irregular, sharp-pointed, angular flow tops. Pahoehoe lava (pronounced "pa-hoy-hoy") has smooth or ropy flow tops.

Stratigraphy: Blue Dragon Flow, Craters of the Moon Lava Field, upper Holocene, 2.030-2.076 ka

Locality: trailside, Caves Trail (between trailhead and Dewdrop Cave), Craters of the Moon National Monument, northern Snake River Plain, southern Idaho, USA

Ancient Assos.....The city was founded from 1000 to 900 BC by Aeolian colonists from Lesbos, who specifically are said to have come from Methymna. The settlers built a Doric Temple to Athena on top of the crag in 530 BC. From this temple Hermias of Atarneus, a student of Plato, ruled Assos, the Troad and Lesbos for a period of time, under which the city experienced its greatest prosperity. (Strangely, Hermias was actually the slave of the ruler of Atarneus.[4]) Under his rule, he encouraged philosophers to move to the city. As part of this, in 348 BC Aristotle came here and married King Hermeias's niece, Pythia, before leaving for Lesbos three years later in 345 BC. This 'golden period' of Assos ended several years later when the Persians arrived, and subsequently tortured Hermias to death. The Persians were driven out by Alexander the Great in 334 BC. Between 241 and 133 BC, the city was ruled by the Kings of Pergamon. However, in 133 BC, the Pergamons lost control of the city as it was absorbed by the Roman empire. St. Paul also visited the city during his third missionary journey through Asia Minor, which was between 53-57 AD, on his way to Lesbos. From this period onwards, Assos shrunk to a small village, as it has remained ever since. Ruins around Assos continue to be excavated. The pillars from the ancient port lay in the harbor for over a millennia. Eventually they were probably sold. In the early 1900s an attempt was made to move the contents of the Temple of Athena. Much of the art has been moved to museums like the Louvre.[4] The art found includes pictures both of mythical creatures and heraldic events.

my friend teri lent me a stroller she wasn't using. she's awesome. it was a hand-me-down to her, nothing particularly fancy, and certainly not stylish. in fact, it's quite ugly. but it works (it rolls, it's not falling apart, etc.)...and that's all that matters. her car seat pops into it (the polka dot patterned thing).

for a long time, i was thinking i wanted some fancy ride for poppy, like, a bugaboo bee or something equally chic. all the babies in town seem to glide along in such strollers. but then, i was thinking...i like the idea of using something non-fancy, something used, something utilitarian, especially in these uncertain economic times. to shell out such a large amount of cash for an item that could be found used and/or cheaper...that just seems right, right now.

and poppy doesn't even know the difference, you know? she just likes to ride around, looking around at the world around her, and loves being lulled to sleep as the stroller glides over the lumpy, bumpy sidewalks of san francisco. what she rides in doesn't matter to her, as long as it's comfortable.

she'll be 8 weeks tomorrow.

14 Sagemont boys basketball players are currently traveling in Israel as a cultural and educational exchange. The boys will be staying with host families affiliated with Maccabi Haifa Youth Sports Organization. In addition, the boys will be traveling to a list of historical sites in Israel and playing scrimmage basketball games along the way. The boys are accompanied by a group of administrators, coaches and parents. The boys will be journaling and making presentations about their trip upon their return. We will have more info on this trip in the coming days.
