The pendant of this ear cuff can be altered: I can choose to wear both chains equally long, one longer than the other, or I can knot them.
I cut this cuff out of sheet metal, textured it using special texturing hammers, and then played with its shape. The rough nature of the bends is deliberate, as I didn't want to do something that was perfectly rounded. Once it was done, I used liver of sulfur with some ammonia added in. The ammonia is responsible for the gorgeous colors on the bracelet's inside in particular.
Bead weaving, bead embroidery, I used up some really pretty pieces left from two other bracelets to creat this one. It is opulent.

This month the challenge was Fairy Tales, and well I was super excited. I knew exactly what I what I wanted to do as soon as the theme was announced.
I am in love with the Cheshire Cat and Alice in Wonderland (and Through the Looking Glass). I always have been. So of course I had to do a cuff in honor of my favorite stories.
This cuff is made of lilac velvet ribbon with vintage buttons from the 60s sewed on. In the center there is a vintage style image decoupaged by me, coated with many layers of varnish and set in a brass frame. You tie it on your hand with a narrower ribbon.

If you had lived in Schenectady in the late 1800's, you would have known Jim Cuff. Jim Cuff was a fabulous character. Born on the farm of Henry Swits on the outskirts of the city, Jim Cuff had mixed parentage. His father was James Harley, a reputed negro; his mother was an Indian squaw. During his boyhood Cuff was known as James Harley Switz. Jim Cuff stood 6 feet 7 inches tall. His remarkable profile, shown in the accompanying picture outlines a magnificently shaped head, a strong Roman nose and a determined chin. His bushy hair and face reflected his Indian ancestry - for Jim Cuff was an Indian - with all the characteristics and fierce pride of the Iroquois. Jim Cuff was an herbalist. He collected and sold his "yarbs" for the treatment and cure of all the ills the flesh falls heir to. Old timers remember Jim standing in front of the Ellis Building on State Street, on almost any sunny afternoon - selling from his huge basket such tidbits as succulent watercress, wild mushrooms, and berries. When Jim Cuff passed on, at the age of 90 or more - March 4, 1894, a fine stone bearing an etching of his familiar profile was donated by popular subscription. This interesting stone stands in beautiful Vale Cemetery.
