Cucumber Falls in Ohiopyle State Park. We stopped here on the way back from Gettysburg and Antietam. Always tricky to find a new angle.

My wife and I went out exploring a bit today up in the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania, Ohio State Park to be exact. We wanted to find this waterfall, and the lady at the tourist information station said we had two options to get there.. #1)Hike up and around the island, #2)Walk by the road. We chose #2...which turned out to be a VERY technical hike and we weren't too happy about that, especially when we found out there was a third option of driving to the parking area just above the falls.
For 118 pictures in 2018, #66, "Stainless Steel", this is my favorite knife, with a stainless steel blade, with a cucumber it was just used to slice.

Did it surprise me to learn that botanists classify the cucumber as a berry? Absolutely! But "much like tomatoes and squashes, it is often [might I suggest usually?] perceived, prepared, and eaten as a vegetable" (Wikipedia). After photographing it, I ran this cucumber through a blender and combined it with strawberry-flavored kefir to make a smoothie of sorts.
the cucumber is about 1/2 the size of the ones you buy in the shops :)
None of the others have been fertilised, but it looks as if the flowers come out in pairs, so I'll dust the next pair with a paintbrush :)

Green cucumbers appear in red under UV light. This is the fluorescence of chlorophyll, which is concentrated in
chloroplasts. The latter have a diameter of around 4 microns here.
The much larger stomata (blueish) are "plant noses", absorbing carbon dioxide and breathing out oxygen as "waste gas".

This is at the tip of the LONG cucumber plant trunk. It's still growing horizontally across my higher planters and will probably stay there. I was going to stake it vertically, but it's doing well there and it looks cute, so it's staying. lol.. I'm only into flowering plants, not vegetables, but it also has beautiful flowers! Male flowers and female flowers!! Although the flower color is really bright butter yellow.. not too cute. But I love them after they've started "going". Really. lol.. And I've got pics to prove it. You'll see. ;-)))
