Our Cucumbers are getting bigger and they are sending off tiny new tendrils to grab onto the garden fence.

A view there taken downstream from Cucumber Falls. Liked how the flow at this time was split by the rather large slab of rock.
Cucumber beetle is a common name given to members of two genera of beetles, Diabrotica and Acalymma, both in the family Chrysomelidae. The adults can be found on cucurbits such as cucumbers and a variety of other plants. Many are notorious pests of agricultural crops.
the macromonday theme for this week (8/6) is decay. been watching and photographing this cucumber for a couple of days now ~grin~. leaving it out of the refrigerator might have hastened its demise, but i wasn't ready to deal with the results.
btb, this was taken inside my frig-- any excuse to get some cool air!!
The cucumber - as well as the gherkin - belongs to the botanical species Cucumis sativus. They differ only in appearance and in their possible uses. The species Cucumis sativus probably comes from the north of India.
The cultivated form, which probably originates from the wild form Cucumis sativus spp. agrestis, was already known in India about 3,000 years ago and was also spread in Egypt and other countries around the Mediterranean Sea. The Romans brought the crop to France, from where it spread further across Europe.

I was slicing a cucumber for my salad when I noticed this strange face.
I am a BIG fan of pareidolia anywhere you can find it. Never thought I would find it inside a cucumber.
The fragrance of the evergreens was like perfume as we hiked in Cucumber Gulch Preserve, a nature preserve in Breckenridge, Colorado. The trail descends in this view, through the tall spruce, pine and fir trees, opening in the background to the slopes of Breckenridge Ski Resort. There is a trace of snow visible in the background mountain top.
The town of Breckenridge is at an elevation of 9600 ft (2926m).
Slices of cucumber pickled in brine, seen from close :)

A stop by Ohio Pyle State Park at the end of the day right before sunset landed me at Cucumber Falls, perhaps the most photographed waterfall in Western Pennsylvania.

Mono March #3
Can you tell I enjoyed my last visit to Cucumber Falls? I keep posting pics from that same visit. Over and over, but the compositions are all slightly different.
The dreaded spotted cucumber beetle (Diabrotica undecimpunctata) is green, or greenish-yellow, with black spots. Unlike its "lady" look-alike, the cucumber beetle has no redeeming qualities. Instead of eating the aphids on roses, the cucumber beetle eats the rose blossom itself. It can devour an African daisy, a poppy, or a lily in a day. Bad, bad bug!
Sure, the light looked warm, but my fingers and toes disagreed wholeheartedly. I love how this place looks different every winter. The ice forms in a different way each year. I really love the little S-curve that the stream has taken on because of the ice blocking some of the natural flow. What a lovely sight!
